Reached the Galaga Kill Screen - quick play-through of last 4 levels

Finally caught this on film... what happens when you reach the Galaga kill screen? On the iCade motherboard, this is what happens (advance to the last 30 seconds of video if you don't want to watch me play through the boring final stages). Hope this satisfies your curiosity. :D

I played this originally back in college, used the no shooting glitch to get to the last level. But instead of freezing, a ship came down and wiped all my medallions and extra ships, then blanked the screen.

I actually saw a person go past the "byte rollover" once. Namco/Midway must have came out with a fix for the problem for one of their versions. I can imagine having complaints from arcade owners having a machine that locked up and required a power reset to fix. Most arcades have the outlets all behind the machines and can only power down an entire row of machines. so if the machine locked up, it could be down for the rest of the day,.

I did this yesterday with at the local arcade (yes I cheated), my hand is still killing me, and I'm 26 so I don't even want to imagine what it would feel like for someone older than me without a rapid fire.

I'm close to twice your age dude! I still play to this day and exercise my fingers and wrist periodically so I'm ready for a multi-hour run when I stream record attempts. You just have to work those muscles from playing other games and other activities that utilize your fingers and wrist. I tried learning how to play a guitar and after 10 minutes, I had to put it down because I just couldn't wrap my wrist around the fret. My wrist was killing me. Than again, I haven't been playing for years and years. Practice makes perfect. :)

did it in my youth on the original board. No kill screen stages just wrap around. 6 hours and final stats was single fire button presses over 27000 I tried to pick up my pack and my fingers wouldn't close over the handle. I was 16.

I built the arcade from scratch and made a variable-frequency square wave generator out of a 555 timer circuit which has its output hooked up to the 'ground' connection of the buttons that I want to use as rapid fire. It works extremely well for games like Gunsmoke which require the simultaneous (and rapid) pressing of buttons to angle one's trajectory of fire.

MST3k season 11 brought me here. Crow made a reference to the Galaga kill screen when looking at some squiggly green line on a radar, but that looks nothing like this.

Heh, me too. Based on that vector graphics display, and other kill screens like Pac-Man, I was expecting something a lot more interesting-looking. 🤷‍♂️

OK, I went back to Google and found a Facebook video of a much more interesting-looking kill screen gotten to on an original Galaga machine. Still looks nothing like those vector graphics, but I guess that's to be expected. 🙂

as you can see at about 2:30 it says stage 0 on the screen. when I saw it in the arcade it was a difficult stage and the next stage is stage 1 and it is the same as stage 1 at the beginning of the game. it seems like namco seems to forget the level 0 board on early games and when the got to zero the computer would freeze or put up a scrambled screen like pac-man

This is what happens on the easy difficulty. Medium difficulty continues to play past level zero ... Not sure yet what happens if you put on hard mode. Hmm. Anyone?

Julius Howlett I believe it's what I mentioned in the original comment :) Stage 0 remains on screen with the stars on the scrolling background looping constantly until the machine is reset :)

Julius Howlett In hard mode, when it shows" Stage 0", the game sufflock. Sufflock means when the games doesn't move on to the next one.

Julius Howlett I thought in easy mode, the game tries to move on after running out of memory, and that causes to load a screen full of letters, numbers, white tiles, and other random sprites, which is called a buffer error system crash. SEIZURE WARNING!!!

Use the second player to get highscore...first player wont let you hit a mil...but you can on player2

Haven't played without rapid fire for years! (why wouldn't I use it? my fingers are old and brittle... don't like mashing buttons 23,000 times a game). The difficulty was set to 'normal' (which is the easiest) though I did this again on 'hardest' about a week ago and it didn't lock up! It just played out a mysterious level 0 (blanked all my medallions) and then Level 1 began all over again. Hmm.

Not even I can. That's because this is the rapid-fire version. Meaning, all you have to do is hold the button down and the game will fire faster than any human can. :) I haven't seen anyone fire faster than me yet, but I'm no match for a game set on rapid-fire mode.

You know the easiest way to get rid of enemies bugs and bees bullet without that bees kills you unless they behind you Dont kill 2 left bees unless the enemy bullets are complete gone

It was all rank A gets silkscreen and not fucking come to stage 1 again, because it will rebooted in rank A and rank 2 gets split screen on stage 0 before stage 1 and rank C gets killscreen and NOT FUCKING REBOOT IT AND RANK D GETS SPLITSCREEN besides killscreen to get stage 1

Setting it to a different difficulty, it rolled over to level 0 (if I recall correctly) and all the medals disappeared... then level 1 began and it was as if the entire game started over

Correct. The hardest difficulty setting makes Level 0 playable but no medals that indicate level. Because level 0 so 0 medals. Level 257 (or 1 again) shows one medal and the cycle repeats.
