On September 7th, 2019, I was able to make a solo day effort out of Banner Peak of the Ansel Adams Wilderness. This 12,936 foot peak and its surrounding wilderness are some of the most iconic in the entire Sierra Nevada and the experience was one to be shared. Read the full trip report in the link below and please remember to like subscribe and share if you would like to see more of this content. Cheers!

My brother in law and I met a couple of guys who had summited Banner Peak and spent the night up there. One of them put his Pathfinder Watch out in the morning to check the temperature. About 10 minutes later he looked out to see a marmot taking his watch down into his burrow.

That is hilarious. I just came back from the Sierra where a marmot tried to steal my down quilt. I ran back from the lake I was bathing in with my pants around my ankles to chase him off. I'm convinced these guys are selling our gear to PCTers.

Were you able to walk up the glacier without crampons?
@trvrsoutdoors

I did not use crampons. However, I did use microspikes. They were useful for three different segments. Approaching Glacier Pass (100 feet of ice). Crossing into the class three scramble below thr glacier (40 foot traverse), and throughout the glacier ascent. This was early September.

@TRVRS Outdoors...I'm curious if you had considered going down the opposite side of the saddle towards Thousand Island Lakes vs going back the same way as you chose (and which way did the other hiker go?). I was out there a few years ago, and went back down towards Catherine L. as you did, but my partner wanted to go down the opposite way from the saddle at 6:30 pm (still daylight - summer). We still argue about the decision. :) He thinks it would have saved a lot of time.

The route from the east is where the other gentlemen had approached from. He mentioned that it was icy but not death defying. In hindsight, going up that way seemed like the right call but going down could have been more tricky. I think that goingfoe this peak alone after coming off of five days on the Sierra High Route had me satisfied with the class 2 route. I'd definitely try that approach next time. But yes, it probably would have saved time abd I'd have seen some more cool lakes! 😎

@@trvrsoutdoors Great video! Impressive video given doing it alone and with the high winds. We would have started going down after 630 pm on the easten side. I had gone down it yrs before without ice or snow earlier in the day and took time so just thought too risky tired, late, and couldn't see past the snow down below. You're right. Gorgeous area. Thanks for the reply. I joined your group. Loved your comics....so great! Great attitude too.

Thank you! I had to leave that part in. Thats what happens when you research the route super last minute and aren't very familiar with the entire area.
