It was his first performance in The Singer competition 2017 in China. He was basically unknown. I think he stunned them as I am fairly sure they didn’t expect him to last long in the competition. He was 22 at the time and spoke no Chinese. Also the youngest contestant that had been on the show. His voice is just amazing. Glad you enjoyed it. Great reaction. If you do other songs from him that are not in English. Which most are not. You can go to Gloria Wu’s channel. She has added subtitles to those performances. Some also come with the back storey to the song he is going to perform. I loved all of his 14 performances on The Singer. There are also numerous live concerts after that as well. He has his own channel that you can also use to react with. 😊

Dimash is world class. One of the best ( under 25 ) male vocalists in the world. My favorite. I’m 73 and I would like to turn back the clock to the 1960s and to share with you ( and all your who read my comment , especially those who love unique stylistic female vocalists ) 4 songs by my favorite female jazz vocalist of all times who also possessed a unique recognizable voice , a 4 octave vocal range, as well as a frenzied cult following back then and if she were alive today and in her prime ( she passed away last year) with social media like Facebook, KZbin etc her following would be in the millions). Please KZbin: “ Morgana king a taste of honey” ( a bittersweet song of unrequited love and a promise to return but never does and it’s sad heartwrenching aftermath. Great soulful rendition with fabulous emotionally impactful riffs and runs. “morgana king lazy afternoon” ( first vid posted by terry Shannon) Beautiful imagery that enhances the already emotionally impactful rendition. Breathtaking nature” imagery far away from the hustle and bustle of city life and the maddening crowd. “morgana King prelude to a kiss” ( the one recently posted by “ morgana fan” ) Hauntingly beautiful fluid collage imagery that would win an academy award for best imagery superimposed on a song and boy does Morgana SOAR in this Duke Ellington classic. Best female vocalist rendition ever and never will be topped. By now, I know you will have fallen in love with Morgana so here is one more favorite for another day and be sure to turn your headphones full vol “Morgana King fascinating rhythm” ( out of this world ) By the way, all these ( and more) songs were from her 1964 lp titled “ A Taste Of Honey” with fabulous arrangement by Zito and I consider this album the best jazz album of all time!!! I was in his NY concert. I will not get tired of hearing this young man with that wonderful gift, I cannot believe that a single human being has so much in himself, passion, emotion, beautiful personality, a great heart, and a pure and unique technique. Love it! Also, a great coincidence and pleasant surprise happened to me Dec 9, in New York, day before the concert. When I was about to enter the NY library I saw Dimash's parents who were also entering, Dimash's younger brother was our translator ... that was a nice meeting..I had some photos with them ....❤❤❤❤

It is always heartwarming to watch first-timers react to Dimash's singing. You say "angelic," and that what we all, his Dears (that's who he calls us, his fans) say. This very same performance, when I watched Dimash do it in the annual Singer Contest of Hunan Television (China) in January 2017, got me hooked up immediately. I now don't listen to anybody else. -- The song itself is popular in France, (that's why Dimash sings it in its original French language). It is a song of a dying man (pourquoi je vis, pourquoi je meurs). The lyrics are the somewhat scattered thoughts of this "terrien en détresse." who is about to die. At the end, before the very last line, Dimash makes a pause, because the last words, "Dodo, l'enfant, do" are no longer those of the dying man; they are those of the celestial beings who will escort him to eternity. -- Other Dears tell you more below.

I think he was nervous. After all, it was his first performance in China where he was a complete unknown, and this song could make or break his career in China. Very smart reaction. He sang that song after this competition and I'm happy to report that he no longer pronounces the "s" at the end, though it is still difficult to realize it's French if you don't have the subtitles! I must say that his English has improved a lot even during the competition. I can't tell about his Italian nor his Chinese. Most of his performances are stunning, though this song probably has the greatest variety of what he can do. If you love great music and great performances, I highly encourage you to keep listening and reacting to him. He is a once in a generation talent who is fast becoming an international superstar thanks to the internet.
