Scott's switching between registers, from his regular singing voice to his lowest baritone notes. Slapping his chest is just for percussion.

Scott is a riff god. :) Those low notes really show his range... he's a baritone who can easily reach into the bass range. (In Hallelujah, he sings the bass line during Avi's solo). Quite a talent.

As others have said, Scott is a baritone. Those notes are growl notes. A technique taught to Avi by Tim Faust of home free. That's why they sound so breathy. Sib time is good. Keep on keeping on. :)

That's not growl notes, that's Scott's chest notes, and the lowest notes in this video are D2s if I remember correctly. When Scott growls that would be B1 or A1.
