I'm a little surprised that most of the elders seemed to actually like this game, honestly. Especially the "Zombie Win" gentleman. I wonder how well they'd enjoy the rest of the game, though. Or if the lady in black's heartstrings could handle anything more.

Doomrider Well, I hate to sound judgey, or whatever, but the intro doesn't require much actual gaming ability, so you remove most of their 'frustration' right off the bat. Add in a sad story, and the slight immersion of the little bit you do have to do, and the quality of the story itself, and you have quite a good formula. At least for the intro.

Dandari2000 They actually did one of the worst fighting games. Ever heard of "Way of the Warrior"? It was released in 1994 by Naughty Dog. They were so broke that they couldn't even affoard a blue screen so they used a yellow wall inside one of the designers room to make the characters, all the characters were people of Naughty Dog and even the coustumes were made from stuff they found in the house, it's hilarious that these people who made "The Last of Us" had started like this

U two are right. My dad is rubbish at video games and never really understands my fascination with tlou, but I suspect he'd be similar to the elders here if he tried it for longer. Some (not all) adults r just to set in their opinions. Video games if done right put you in a movie, you feel like hero. I personally liked Ellie because she strangely pointed out flaws with our generation particularly in the diary scene. Slightly off topic if you've seen some stuff in art museums now a toddler could do some of it yet it gets called art. Strangely as someone who likes art, media etc like subjects, looking at art that isn't technically amazing or as no use is so painful

When I first played the game, I was at a friend's house (didn't have a Playstation so I had to occupy hers for this game...). When the first cutscene started, the first thing I said "Oh so she's his daughter! Wait... that's not the girl from the cover art. (Ellie)" The barely suppressed look of pity on my friend's face sort of cued me in as to what was gonna happen. It didn't help much to dampen the impact the scene had.

It was a mistake on the devs part. They expect players to go to the tv, see the explosion on tv, and then hit L3 to see more explosions outside. They probably forgot to make sure the explosion on TV was happening outside at the same time, because playtesters probably bee-lined for the TV.

Well, remember that these are elderly folks who have seen far more tragedy in real life than a young person. They've experienced deaths of family and friends and some lived through wars. They can probably handle emotional devastation much better than a younger person who typically hasn't experienced much in life (and is full of hormones that affect their emotions), so the death of an endearing character in a video game probably won't affect them as much, regardless of how well done the storytelling is. This is just my guess.
