My family is the embodiment of laid back dining. We use one knife and fork for everything except soup, ice cream or pudding. Really, our only rule is no farting around others, especially at the table. When unfortunate flatulence happens, the guys laugh, the kids giggle and the women, all of them, say, "Really?" It's like a programmed response. Lol

Where I come from, it's the opposite. Going back for seconds is not only acceptable, but encouraged. You come to my family's house (or any Balkan family) for a dinner party and you're gonna be fed like a king.

@@EndlessSummer888 Remember that at a royal dinner you are served a plate with what you are getting for that course. The guests at a royal dinner are not digging into shared bowls or serving trays. Also, it can't really be the opposite, since there are no monarchies, hence no royal dinners, native to the current Balkans. The reason for leaving behind a single bite it to signify that there was enough, that the host was not inadequate. Just like a lot of other cultures outside of royalty have a rule to finish what is on your plate, but leave at least a bit on/in the shared trays/bowls to signify that the host served enough and did not leave you hungry. I belive the reason (outside of royalty) to finish what is on your plate, is to not waste, since what you put on your plate will be thrown out, while what is left on/in the shared trays and bowls can be saved for leftovers.
@allystrong15 Жыл бұрын
I know in Chinese etiquette, you should leave nothing on your plate, to show the chef you thoroughly enjoyed your meal. Unless it's Chinese New Year, in which case some of the fish is left over as a way to symbolize transferring good luck into the next year. Also, it was very interesting to watch this video with a book on my head 😂
@yvonnesowell1838 Жыл бұрын
Depends. If you’re a guest, you do not finish, so it doesn’t look like the host didn’t feed you enough.

Etiquette is so weird and stupid and most of it makes no sense. Some things do though, like a handshake was originally intended as a way for both parties to show they weren't carrying weapons in their sleeves, and a toast was originally meant to spill a bit of liquid between both glasses, ensuring neither one would be poisoned
@EndlessSummer888 Жыл бұрын
