In case of Sonic 2, the lady is right to say it's pixelated. Sonic games were designed with pixelated graphics to make use of artifacts on a CRT Television, so the pixelated waterfall and the bushes in Sonic 2 would look transparent instead of a mesh of pixels. In fact, Sonic 2 looks way better in a television of that time, than it does in modern consoles and monitors.

The fact that the teens appeared to be playing without being allowed to read the instructions probably didn't help either (I never owned TJ+E but based on it being a rogue-like combined with how much stuff there is in Panic on Funkotron I'd assume it's the sort of game that's hard to pick up and play without the manual).

The presents you pick up need to be identified otherwise you just open random stuff and can just straight up die (total bummer) or get something else that's bad (like books, they put you to sleep).
