It does not matter who you work for. That does not change where you are from. I think the correct thing would be to say that Columbus was no migrant. He was an explorer trying to find a shorter passage to India for trade purposes (and fame). There is more to his story besides his first trip across the Atlantic that taints his name in a bad light, justifiably. Unless, you meant that he was no migrant to North America, but to Spain, where he lived out his days and is buried. Fun fact.. Columbus NEVER discovered North America... never saw or stepped foot there. He discovered islands in the Caribbean, specifically, Hispaniola (D.R./Haiti).

I think you're misinterpreting his meaning on immigration. He's referencing the fact that the left constantly claims that the US is terribly racist, in fact systemically so, yet these same people are the ones who are pro illegal immigration and want open borders. He's merely pointing out the contradiction between their stances as they bounce from subject to subject. I don't believe that the US is racist and I don;t think Tom does either. As far as the if you're Asian you're probably rich and smart and if you're gay you're brave-he's pointing out the common stereotypes espoused by the left, and that the one for white people is being racist. I'm the tail end of gen-X, I got bullied so hard in all my years of school in the ghetto that I got so tough that I nearly killed a few people before getting out of high school. When I visit home people still start fast walking away from me. Today people aren't bullied, they are cry-bullied. When someone makes a claim about someone so disgusting they have to reply, and when they do the original accuser claims to be a victim inciting lots of unrelated people to swarm their victim. People are quite pathetic today.

I made it to the end. It's all good. Interesting how you watch it all the way through and then react at length. I like it. We might have some different takes, because we have different life experiences. For example, I'm a veteran with service during the Cold War, and I've been absurdly called names like Nazi in the last decade - so I relate to Tom's lyric about "in 2021 we call the patriots Nazis". Rings true to me. But that's my life experience. It's all good. Say your piece. Peace.

Question for you. I grew up an army brat, the son and brother of guys who retired from the Army as full Colonels. However, I have also been very much on the left politically since I understood the concept of politics. As such, I'm aware there are some folk on the left that get stupid about the military, calling them Nazis and such. But it's been my experience that in this culture we tend to value our veterans to a large degree (more in word than in action, but that's another story). Even those on the left that are firmly anti-military are mostly against the military-industrial complex, not necessarily anti-soldier. Has your experience been different?

@@ianthomas865 Thank you for the excellent question. My experience is that I was politically left in college late 70s, but became conservative after military service in the 80s and 90s. It's a two part answer. First, I don't want to over-generalize because I am routinely treated well as a veteran in person in public. If I am wearing an Air Force veteran cap, people are routinely nice and complimentary (which I don't ask for or expect). Online or at rallies is a different story. It's the ANTIFA left largely calling people Nazis, and they're not a fan of patriotic veterans. I mentioned that my service was during the Cold War to relate to Tom McDonald's lyrics about "blurring the lines dividing Communism and democracy" as we "paint the patriots as Nazis". Many of us raised (and who served) during the Cold War years understood the evils of Communism as the Soviet Union oppressed half of the planet, with millions killed under Communist ideologies. I used to train A-10 pilots for a mission to defend Europe if the Soviet Union invaded Germany through the Fulda Gap. It was clarifying about Communism - no lines blurred. I'm a patriot, who has been called a Nazi by people who are currently embracing Socialist / Marxist ideologies. I get Tom's lyric here. Hope that helps.

I'm a Navy brat, (step-dad was career Navy, 'Nam vet, 5 tours) that flirted with both the Army and Marines before I suddenly backed off and decided 'nope, not in it to get screwed over' and walked. Too many promises are unfulfilled to get someone to sign a contract in the military and I had specific goals. Anyway, that's another story. Point is, I got nothing but love for my fellow patriots that have served this nation and her People faithfully and truly, all sacrificing some, some all. So again, thank you. I also very much appreciated your responses in this thread, very spot on to my view point of it all. And as a last note, the Hog is my favorite fixed wing, with the Eagle coming in next. The recruiting process is difficult and I was blessed to have good advisors getting me through it an in. I was needing options in my life, and am grateful it worked out. Damn it! I got a huge yacht but wanted a huge sailboat! I interpreted your comments as seeing what Tom was doing but wanting to talk about issues and your position (which, I believe is very close to how Tom sees it... then again I'm not Tom). I see the world similarly to you, not 100%, but close and the genius that Tom puts out encourages us to think about things. He rarely says "this is how I feel" but simply hints. We all put our own spin on his lyrics, as well as the rest life throws at us. Thats why artists like Tom are so crucial. There must be a way to get a handle on the number of illegal guns flooding into the country. I think Tom is saying that despite all the probs we have here, people are literally willing to risk their lives to get here. Black Lives Matter every four years, whenever their is a Presidential election. Rich Asians, Brave Gays, etc. I think Tom is pointing out the stereotypes, as if no one else can be brave or rich. Right now I don’t think there is anyone out there that is as fearless or on point as Tom is in pointing out the hypocrisy of the world that we live in. I very much enjoyed your after VLOG. I was a left leaning moderate, now just a moderate, who is by default now on the right because the Overton Window has been moved so far left that I have to ask to use the Hubble Telescope just to even see my beloved fence again. So I have the awesome and horrid experience of seeing things mostly from both sides. And I'm a hillbilly, but that's another discussion. None of this stuff is our fault, IMHO. It's being forced upon and force fed to us from DC and the MSM. Both sides are acting out because they're being lied to, ultimately by the same entities I would wager. Why? Control, profit, and other evil, demonic purposes. And until both sides find magic common ground to stand and fight from I fear it will get worse. But, we're Americans. Can someone please explain how did it come to the fact that the democratic party in US is considered 'left'? Isn't socialism left? I don't think I ever saw another democratic party in another country being called left. Hey! I really enjoy your takes on Tom's music. I think that you get your point across very well. However, and this is not criticism, I believe that when he is talking about immigration he is actually talking about the hypocrisy. By people continually saying how racist America is but then, encouraging people to come from other countries. I am not a spring chicken by any means and this is by far the most hypocrisy I've ever witnessed. And the stereotypes are just that, stereotypes. Have a blessed day!
