I have to say that *everyone* is entitled to their own opinions on something subjective like reading preferences.. . HOWEVER... I wish people would keep in mind that there are authors who are REAL PEOPLE on the other end of these books. It's perfectly fine to absolutely LOATHE a book and give it a 1 star or even say I would give 0 if I could BUT follow that up with a reason other than something hateful. I much more respect the ones who gave actual examples, as in pacing was off etc to the ones who say "poop book" basically. And man, oh man, this is telling me 2 things to keep in mind when I publish, I am going to a) need to stay away from my own reviews cuz ouch! and b) I need readers like you who champion for the authors and defend these crazy thoughts or provide actual criticism that is useful. I enjoyed the video, the subject matter not so much but only because I think that when you dive deep into the low stars you really get to see the sad glimpses of how cruel and purely hateful society/people have become. That is in no way a reflection of you or this video type making its rounds across the youtubes, just more a reflection on society as a whole. We need more kindness and I commend you for showing that with your responses. Despite not agreeing with a lot of them, you tried to find the reason they could have said what they said and gave them the benefit of the doubt just as you do the authors. So in that way, truly treasure you and your wife and the beacon of light you guys spread.

Always love your responses! So articulate and thought out! I agree so many people have become very comfortable with hurting people’s feelings

Ok these comments had me rolling laughing! I have only read TOG series out of them all that these people are all wrong! I do like chaol in the books but there are other characters I love more. I so want to read Tress Of The Emerald Sea especially since I heard he loosely based it off of The Princess Bride and that is one of my favorite books and movies of all time! Another great video by you I would love to see you do this again! I’m sorry you’re having a tough time lately I’ll be praying for you.🩷🩷🩷

These one star reviews. Wow. I don’t know how anyone could call Empire of Storms dull. It’s the best book in the series! So much going on. Crazy what people say for real.

Highly disagree with the one start reviews specially because I’m on the TOG series, finally, and they are nothing dull at all. They are tripping !!!

Had to pause the video because I am shocked. My fiancé bought me The Shadows Between Us for my birthday and I DEVOURED the duology!! The second book did feel somewhat repetitive and too similar to the first book but I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless. I have never read a villain x villain book before and it was so fun.

I dnfd Tress of The Emerald Sea! It just wasn’t catching my interest, it was my first Sanderson read too! But I think it may have been the way the audiobook was read, I still plan on reading a physical copy and seeing if that makes a difference!

lol it may surprise you but I only recently started reading horror books! It was always horror movies for me, not so much horror books. Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors, Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books! lol I actually have a lot more fantasy or regency books than I do horror books! 😂

like, unless the book is literally problematic, I don't really get the point of 1 star reviews. and if you've dnf'd? you shouldn't get an opinion unless it's something like, "I dnf'd because I didn't like This or Character X'" I dunno. I've given some 2 star reviews when I've thought the book was pretty okay, but the writing style wasn't for me but I've not yet given nor will I probably ever give a 1 star
