Not sure if u have seen Daechwita yet but this MV follows that. So basically Yoongi wrote a trilogy and it’s best to watch the MVs in that order just to understand the storyline better. The order is Daechwita, then Haegeum and then Amygdala! All three songs are excellent with Amygdala being my favorite. Can’t wait for more BTS reactions! 💜💜💜

The red chopsticks are an interesting symbol: in this mv, they are used to kill and eat. Which means that even if we fight or reject the system (kill), we are obliged to conform to it at a minimum in order to survive (eat). Hence Suga/Agust D's questioning look at the chopsticks before eating his noodles: he accepts that he is part of the system he is fighting and that he will always be confronted with it, that he will always risk repeating the same errors... It is both a vicious circle and a realistic antagonism/perception/realization.

All 3 songs are fighting to overcome/ overturns barriers in order DAECHWITA professional, HAEGEUM societal, AMYGDALA personal. Suga in Daechwita and Haegeum plays power hungry establishment Suga and poor lower class rebel Suga. Gathering his supporters( ARMY maybe) to help him overturn the corrupt system

Haegum is a two string instrument used in the background also hinting at his dual nature as two characters in this. He’s fighting against his own inner greed and power seeking part trying to get back to the rebel man of the people. He’s killing himself because the other version is a rich corrupt cop who runs a drug gang. He’s always battling his inner demons. Some of the best lyrics and social commentary from BTS rapline. I’m obsessed with this whole album. He also writes MV storyboards that are better than many movies. His acting also on point. Haegum also means breaking a ban or what’s forbidden. Several BTS members (V and JK) have had scandals for maybe being seen smoking (K-pop idols aren’t supposed to) his point he’s over 30 he can smoke and even smoke in a music video if he wants. Breaking the rules all over.

I wish you had seen Daechwita before Haegeum because it's all connected. In order of which you should've seen Agust D's trilogy was Daechwita, Haegeum, and Amygdala. Amygdala ties everything together and explains a lot. The meaning of the scar, the dual characters, his past history, his struggles, etc. If anything, that should be the very last MV you watch.

A possible interest information. In the video where both characters are smoking a cigarette, I read a comment a while back that he did that on purpose to those who criticized both Jungkook and V where pictures were taken of them smoking a cigarette outside. As a matter of fact a fan even brought a sign to a BTS concert I believe it was the Sofi Stadium in LA in 2021 and that sign basically said Don’t Smoke or something like that. The sign was for V whose picture of him smoking outside during the American Music Award show and it was all over the internet. Both Jungkook and V are grown men who make decisions and choices for themselves as we all do. Fans don’t need to micromanage them.

This is the second video/song in the Agust D trilogy. It goes Daechwita-Haegum-Amygdala. You should definitely watch/analyze Daechwita if you haven't, because all three songs are connected. Agust D is the one with the scar and Suga is the one without it. Yoongi has said that his album D-Day along with Haegum and Amygdala wrap up the Agust D trilogy (Agust D, D-2, D-Day) and he likely won't release music under that name anymore. Watching all three mv's in order will give you a lot more context and explain the birth of Agust D. I loved your reaction to this! I like that you watch the lyric video first and then the mv to make sure you really grasp the lyrics!

Hey Jess.... Haegeum : Its a traditional Korean instrument but also lifting a ban and allowing something that is forbidden.... so his lyrics relate to that whilst the music relates to the instrument (it's like a two stringed upright violin... ) The other vid in the trilogy is Amygdala... I don't think you've reacted to that one yet... strap yourself in...it's different....

A big thing that happened in the army twitter space last year that is a talking point in the Haegum MV: in the MV, yoongi is smoking a cigarette. Last year, the media outlets and antis freaked out on Taehyung because someone had taken a photo of him with something that appeared like a cigarette. As you know, in idol culture there is always this pressure for them to be “perfect” and “chaste” and a bunch of other purity culture BS. The argument was (and this is something bangtan has always been at the forefront of fighting for) that they are literally almost 30 year old men - they can do whatever they want with their lives and it’s nobody’s business. That’s why the internet is dangerous, because it’s an echo chamber of public speculation. This is a reoccurring theme in many of BTS’ songs as well.

The Chinese title characters are: 解禁, which, in Korean, reads as 해금 (haegeum), meaning "lift the ban". So, it sounds like he was playing with words using both the traditional Korean stringed instrument, the haegeum (해금), as well as the title meaning.

There is full episode of making MV, like most MV has, he talks there that it was his vision for MV but of course director etc helped him to put his idea into reality - film. You are so right with that he wanted to say as like additional meaning (aside from obvious meainig and second meaning, etc) that they are old enought and by doing normal adult things as idols they aren't criminals, like some them to be... He said it in interview, that he hates this double standart only bc he/they has fame. And also there was scanal bc of smoking and I think he saw that and was angry. Bc in reality why every adult can walk and smok and nobody say a thing but then Idol is seen and it is scandal worst then killing bc he is bad influence, etc, so stupid. I agree with him and no wonder he was angry, bc things like this shouldn't be even talked about, but here come hate, bc of course...
