The guitarist, Ivan Mendez, is simply someone Angelina's family hired to play for her during an extended stay in Los Angeles. He is not even a full-time musician and one wonders what his initial expectations were when he was told his client is a 12-year-old. His reality is plain to see from the expression on his face but I doubt he was quite as enthusiastic before Angelina hit her first note.

Angelina is so special, there just aren’t words to explain her ability to affect me (and most of her fans) in ways that no other artist ever has. It does not matter her age or how many times, I’ve heard her sing the same song. When ever I’m feeling down she’s my go to, to pull back up. I listen to every day, as she transports me to a world of peace and love. It’s such a wonderful break from the world of turmoil we’re in, even if it’s only for one short song. Think about it? Rhianna created her rendition, that was released to the public, after who knows how many 'takes'. And let us not forget it was done in a professional studio with master musician accompaniment. Angelina's rendition her was a 'spur of the moment' decision at home and even though neither her or her guitarist friend was totally familiar with the song, Ivan follows her lead as she can be seen looking for the continuing lyrics on a tablet at her side. Still, she's able to rearrange it 'on the spot' and brings forth a more emotion laden, penetrating performance than Rhianna ever could. This will always happen because Angelina is a true jazz specialist and there's no way a non jazz singer, even one as great as Rhianna, can reach the depths of the human soul like Angelina. The only singer who could hope to match Angelina, would have to be her musical mentor Billie Holiday......but no one else, and you can take that to the bank, my friend.

Yes, she was 12 for this one with Ivan Mendez. Like all the songs she did with him at her home, they are all impromptu, unrehearsed & totally done on the fly while reading the lyrics in 1 take. Watch Ivan's facial expressions, he is hearing this for the 1st time.

If you see Ivan Mendez, it means Angelina is 12yo, he played for AJ in 2018 for one year..... he said he came and had lunch with the family, then Angie and him picked a song to sing ... He practiced for about 20mins then with Angie reading the lyrics on her tablet they sang it.... This was the FIRST take !!!, He said it was hard to concentrate while she was singing along side him.

Angelina has the ability to make us feel the song. Here Ivan, the guitarist, is transported along with us, his reaction is adding to the impact of this rendition. How she manages to do this while reading the lyrics from her screen is far beyond my comprehension. I think that Angelina was born to sing. A recent tiktok from her Grandma showed the full video of Angelina singing at age 18 months. It's amazing that her body language has not changed over the years - her expression during the saxophone solo was identical to when she was singing I put a spell on you when she was 9 and singing Cry me a river when she was 11 (that was a trombone solo).

Thanks for your reaction! She is only 17 years old today and from Norway. She signed with the label Republic Records just 14 years old, I think we can safely leave the promotion to Republic Record. Marketing will start when her full album is released later this year. There's only one EP with 6 songs she's released from RR now, and they haven't started marketing until the full album is released!. Republic Records know 100% what they are doing? I think a lot of people don't realize how much Angelina has done in her short life (17). She performed FIFA AWARD song, and performed in front of 40 000 people only 11 years old invited by Norah Jones. She was also specially invited by Quincy Jones to perform on his 85th birthday in the O2 arena / London. And so on goes the list... She has over 250 songs on KZbin with cover songs and many originals. Angelina also plays piano and guitar. The truth is that within a year or two she will be the artist for the big occasions. and not a "bare belly plastic artist" who tops a list for a week and is forgotten just as quickly. She already eats most female vocalists for breakfast, and the label Republic Records and the rest of the music industry know that too! Angelina Jordan has nothing to prove. When she sometimes belts is it because the fits in the performances. She sings to us only she can do! Angelina recently had a sold-out concert in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where there was an audience from 9 different country all the way from Australia and from 39 different states in the USA.

Samantha this video was recorded at Angelina's home when she was 12 years old. The guitarist, Ivan Mendez, who was invited to play background music alongside Angelina, recorded various songs. These recording sessions were impromptu shows showcasing Angelina's voice and range. Ivan Mendez immediately realized Angelina's special grief during the videotaping, he was melisma by Angelina's soulful voice and her interpretation of the song lyrics during their session together Ivan revealed during an interview with Alan Papier.

Ivan Mendez was the guitarist. They don't actually practice, other than the five or ten minutes before the performance. Reportedly all of her performances with him all the first, and occasionally second take, when he made a mistake.

Ivan said in an interview that they 'usually never played the song more than once, or very rarely. All the songs with Ivan are barely rehearsed or played again. Sometimes, when he didn't know the song, he leaned it, because she wanted to sing it. Often she's reading the lyrics from her phone because SHE didn't know them well enough.. It was amazing to hear him talking about what his experience working with her was like. 😎

The songs she did around that time are among my favorites. This was during the period when she clearly pronounced every word in the song, and you could understand the lyrics (possibly) for the very first time. While her voice has certainly matured and broadened since, I find I'm not so enamored with her recent efforts. I hope she comes back this approach.

She was amazing all the way from 8 to 14. Later she has taken on a style, it's not lack of ability. She often pronounces words perfectly, but her usage of creaky voice is often too pronounced now, and her diction is sloppier than it used to be unfortunately, often truncating words (due to her new "style"). Hope they will work on this, as she still has the most beautiful voice and singing technique.
