one of the most incredible things about this performance was it was only a year after they released their first album and they were already headlining the biggest festival in the world, with the crowd singing one of their songs back to them, their rise to fame was rapid
@petere6162
@petere6162 3 жыл бұрын
Their rise was so natural. Not contrived as it is so often. Truly “indie” a small record label, utilising the internet to spread their music. Immortalised in Who the f*** are Arctic Monkeys “But we’ll stick to our guns, Don’t care if it’s marketing suicide, Wont crack or compromise”

Arctic Monkeys instant rise to becoming the biggest band in the UK essentially overnight was so Oasis-esque like with how they did the same back in '94

@@richierudolf3410 I think they meant “the biggest” as in one the most iconic music festivals in the world, which it is. It solidified itself in the festival scene in 1970. But I will say that there’s a lot of other great festivals in the world, especially in Europe!🙌🏿😂

Arctic Monkeys are iconic to a certain generation of people in the UK. If you are around the same age as them, it feels like we have grown up together. Remember thinking that they can't get any better and then they released Brianstorm. 2007 was a great year!

@@bentownsend4017 the difference is you didn't grow up in a time when they were releasing music like this. I love the beatles but can't understand what it was like to be there at the time and the love that generation feel for them. Anyone can love them but when you're there during it, it's just different. As a 31yr old, who was there, I can tell you it isn't the same as listening to the album like 15yrs after it's release.

I'll be honest, slightly surprised you haven't heard of Glasto. Glasto is the mother of all music festivals (Reading Fest being the Daddy, imho). But when you can get a crowd to not only sing along to the lyrics but sing along to the guitar parts you know you're onto a winner. Arctic Monkeys are a great band, going a bit left field with a few songs but looking forward to their next album.

Galstonbury is a massive festival held most years on Worthy farm, a real dairy farm, in south west england. The flag thing is a bit of a glastonbury tradition but it's also practical - you've come with your mates to a massive festival with 20+ stages, campgrounds, shops, a circus etc, and it helps to say to your friends, i'll be by the Pyramid stage, look for the Japan flag/Alien on a stick /Massive undies on a pole, etc. Then they can work out where you are in the massive crowd. With 200,000 people showing up in rural Somerset, mobile reception can be patchy at times (well, it might be better now) but, that at least used to be a part of the reason for them was that you can't always just text/call and say "where are you".
