2:50 It's not Elton John, it's Zeki Müren. He was a famous Turkish Classical Music singer from the sixties until he died in the 90s. As the matter of fact, most of the characters in this movie are based on real Turkish artists from the sixties. Many of them are not alive today or are too old. Likewise, the references also belong to those times.

This movie is figuratively an ode to Turkish 70s 80s 90s both in terms of pop music culture and movie culture. Many of the jokes in the movie are directed at the longing sentiment within the Turkish population for those times, and resonates with it, such as the "You little nutcracker" or "Fındıkkıran" part, which is actually the song "Şımarık - Tarkan" for instance. This sentiment is slowly dwindling away in today's Turkey, which has its roots in the generation Cem Yılmaz is a part of, meaning this is a very contextual movie. Therefore I can totally understand why you wouldn't understand %60-70 of the jokes, so don't feel pressured. Your Turkish fanbase, myself included, is eager to explain every little joke anyways, we Turks don't really get a lot of opportunity to express our cultural dilemmas and plight and it feels really liberating to have the chance, if only for one Finnish man :)

it is a good movie for Turkish people because they put many old famous Turkish actors in the movie. we had valuable artists and seeing them in the movie is pretty impressive. Arif used Tarkan's voice (very popular pop star) to get money and made present's famous songs. so that he became popular in a short time. 7:05 we saw Bob Marley Faruk's childhood. I like your reacting videos to Turkish films. Arif V 216 is very connected to Turkish popular culture. It is okay that you didn't get some jokes or references. I didn't see if that is mentioned before but I want to explain why Arif decided to became a singer back then. The songs he sang in the movie are hit Turkish pop songs in 90s generally. So he thinks if he sing these songs in 60s he will become famous and then it becomes true. I think that's a good joke and there are references to so many singer. For example; Mustafa Sandal is one of the famous pop singers and Araba is one of the hits of him. He is a guest actor as a taxi driver in film. In that scene, he is praising his own song while Arif is singing that song in the radio. :)

This movie is a very high quality movie but as others said it's too Turkish for you to understand man. One of the key scenes of the movie was circumcision feast of a young boy. The speciality of this scene is most of the people were actually playing as the nostalgic starts of Turkish cinema & music. Not only that. Some of the roles were played by their own kids. And they really made similar looks to these starts. You should take a look at that scene again, but before you should see these starts in real life, Google for them: Zeki Müren (not exactly in this scene but in overall movie), Cüneyt Arkın, Sadri Alışık, Filiz Akın, Ajda Pekkan, Ayhan Işık etc. This movie is a real looking back to Turkey's music & movie world back in 60s & 70s. Oh btw, you mentioned you didnt understand that 60's libido-free movie thing. Well, most of the Turkish movies back in 60's and 70's were based on pure love. A person loves the other for who he/she is and sex is not the main focus point in these movies. The movie also kind of touches to that point. You see the love of 216 to the girl. Sex is not near anywhere in mind but there is love.
@JanneNordman4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for writing all this. It was interesting to read. I remember the circumcision scene and I was shocked because I didn’t know that is a tradition in Turkey. I will watch that scene again with another point of view when I have googled the names you wrote. And yeah - I was also surprised the scene was one of the key scenes of the movie. I totally did not get that. Thank you for explaining the libido thing. It makes sense now and that’s true what you wrote about love & sex and 216. He was a nice character - even his giggly laugh made me smile even it could have been annoying very easily. Once again thank you for writing and explaining this to me 🙏🏻😊

For example there is a quick scene where the rich producer talks to 2 weird clothed man, that dialogue is literally from the music of Barış Manço a super popular and really good singer that died in the 2000,s. Hello, you might not get the half of these jokes in that movie because there is so many mentions in 60s Turkish entertainment industry and we see the mentioned characters as cinema legend in here thats why we like that movie that much. I have a recommendation list for you. If you wanna watch turkish comedy movies you should especially check "Kahpe Bizans" which is the first of its kind in Turkey. 1. Kahpe Bizans 2. Organize İşler 3. Hacivat ve Karagöz Neden Öldürüldü? 4. Eyvah Eyvah 5. Düğün Dernek 6. Kolpaçino 7. Çalgı Çengi 8. Her Şey Çok Güzel Olacak 9. Hükümet Kadın 10. Neredesin Firuze These are best modern comedy movies in Turkey. You will like them too. If you want to dive deep down in culture. You can watch old ephic Turkish comedy movies. You should check the Kemal Sunal movies first. I recommend; 1. Kapıcılar Kralı 2. Hababam Sınıfı Merhaba (the old one not remake) 3. Şaban Oğlu Şaban 4. Sakar Şakir 5. Sahte Kabadayı
Şakaları çoğunu bizde anlamadim anlamaman normal jdjdjd

@@JanneNordman Recep İvedik is an original character and his movies can't be worse than "Ölümlü Dünya". I think you should at least give it a try to first 1 or 2 movies of the serie. You can see Top 100 most watched Turkish Movies here: tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/En_çok_izlenen_Türk_yapımı_100_film .. People that tell you to not watch the R.İ movies are just bunch of snobs. Whether they like it or not this serie is a hit in Turkey. I can't believe i am defending Recep İvedik right now but i am a neutral person and i always try to stand up against injustice. So, I enjoyed the first movies of the serie and would like to see you react to it. But of course this doesn't mean you will or should like it too, like always I prefer you to be sincere in your reactions.

Thanks for the comment - I really like hearing a lot of opinions and point of views. It’s hard for me to pick a movie and also hard to find a movie with English subtitles. I’m happy to read that you like these videos 🙏🏻😊

Not an exactly Q&A question but: it would be awesome if you little talked about yourself like where are you from, what do you feel about turkish movies, what was the reason you started to react turkish movies what do you think about turkish culture, etc. :)
