The whole "fight in the name of God and country" thing is actually real, and is used as motivation for soldiers. To my knowledge, it was first used in 1914, when the British army's motto was "For God, King and Country". Now, the motto is simply just "Be The Best". I think it stems from the fact that, while God doesn't want you to murder, He also doesn't want to see you and your side suffering. After all, for both parties, it's self-defense. I'll get a bit preacher here, but: in Ecclesiastes 3:8, it's started that "there's a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace". When you're on the battlegrounds, there's no peace. There's no love. Hell, depending on the circumstances, there may never even be hate. But there is war, and God completely understands that.
