@Broken Native we ain't a socialist nation. The left would like us to be but fortunately for the rest of us they are the minority. And the high court just ruled that being woke wont be allowed to affect the freedom of speech in the UK and it's perfectly ok and peoples right to offend others 😁 I would call that a victory for common sense.

The Sainsbury’s advert is based on the true story. This actually happened at Christmas time in World war 1. The english and Germans came together for Christmas Day, exchanged presents and played football together. The next day, the soldiers did not want to fight each other but officers threatened to shoot any man who did not fight the opposition for desertion! It’s a well known incident. Shows the strength of love!

Late on Christmas Eve 1914, men of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) heard German troops in the trenches opposite them singing carols and patriotic songs and saw lanterns and small fir trees along their trenches. Messages began to be shouted between the trenches. The following day, British and German soldiers met in no man's land and exchanged gifts, took photographs and some played impromptu games of football. They also buried casualties and repaired trenches and dugouts. After Boxing Day, meetings in no man's land dwindled out.

The Irn Bru advert is based on the famous and very heartwarming and wholesome animated film, called 'The Snowman'. That's where the music is from. Though the lyrics are very different in the advert, 'the irn bru is mine'. ;) It's a parody and ends with a bit of dark humour, which Brits love. :)

The Sainsbury advert 2014 was the hundred year anniversary of the 1914 Christmas ceasefire that took place along various parts of the front line in WWI. Shows that underneath everything we are all humans that share the same simple wants and desires .

Sainsbury’s 2014 Christmas advert is based on the Christmas Truce in 1914 the bar of Belgian chocolate featured in the advert sold out in Sainsbury’s Grimsby store where i worked at the time, i returned from my annual November visit to WW1 battlefields after paying my respects to local lads in cemeteries and commemorated on memorials in Belgium and France and laying a wreath during The Last Post Ceremony at The Menin Gate Memorial in Ieper Belgium to the advert and the bar of chocolate been sold in store. Just down the road from Prowse Point British Military Cemetery is a cross placed by The Khaki Chums a reanactment group in memory of the 1914 Christmas Truce. After the 1914 Christmas Truce both sides forbid any more fraternising with the enemy. There is a film called “Joyeux Noel” filmed in English, French and German and using British, French and German actors about the 1914 Christmas Truce filmed a number of years ago. The IRN Bru pronounced Iron Brew used scenes from The Snowman film made in the 1980s the song Walking In The Air sung by a teenage choir boy called Aled Jones (from Wales) who has released lots of albums since then.

They had to move troops around after the christmas truce and bring in snipers from elsewhere to start the fighting again. Even when everyone went back to the trenches, they ignored eachother on patrols and pretended not to see any shots they could take and so on. It went on for about a week, then the generals relocated troops, made sure the enemy knew they were relocated, and fired sniper shots at the enemy trenches to make them think the new troops were firing.

In fairness to the IRN-Bru advert, it's a parody of 'The Snowman', which is a very popular children's book/movie that's always on around Christmas time. The main song 'Walking in the Air' is super famous, which is probably why you recognised it. It's quite sentimental, hence the snowman's savagery in the advert. It's funny with context. Also, the places they fly over are all iconic sights in Scotland, like the Falkirk Wheel and the Glenfinnan Viaduct (aka home of the Hogwarts Express!). Definitely visit if you get a chance!

The Irn Bru ad. Irn Bru is a fizzy soft drink made in Scotland. It's hugely popular here. In fact, Scotland is the only place in the world where Coca Cola isn't the most popular soft drink sold, it's Irn Bru. The Irn Bru ads, have always been really funny and popular. To put your mind at rest, the wee boy would have been fine. He landed in a big pile of cartoony snow and would have just brushed himself down walked away, in a kind of Tom & Jerry way lol.

The McDonalds advert is sweet because you can see the family photo and also the ornaments with the kid, his mum, and his dad but the dad has apparently died, which is why the kid is closed off, unhappy, and ignoring his inner child. The IR'N BRU add was a parody of the original "The Snowman" animated short film from the '80's. and in true Grimm Bros fairy tale fashion, was a morality tale where greed, selfishness etc (actions incompatible with the spirit of Christmas). get punished in the end. I think it (the drink) was originally called IRON BREW because of it's rusty colour but when food and advertising regulations appeared on the scene, it had to change the spelling because it was not brewed and it contained no iron.

On that day in 1914 German soldiers even gave haircuts to British sol, they shared their chocolate and rations. And that there tells you everything you need to know...wars are started by old men who send young men to die for a cause they know little or nothing about. These 2 enemies were enemies because it was forced upon them..in that moment these young men put aside their countries fights and became human..brothers again. Then soon after they were obeying their masters trying to kill each other even though they had just made friends with the enemy.
