I've never seen him play with brushes before. Superb. Thanks.

Can't imagine anyone doing it better. So many drummers learned from this pioneer, this legendary, historical figure in drum history. He invented a snare rudiments alphabet and authored books to lay the foundation for future artists. Performed with speed, precision, a masterful repertoire, and remarkable taste and dynamics. And that left hand magic and lightning quickness around the kit. He was an athlete in his own right. Extremely difficult to duplicate if not impossible. Played with other great bands and legends. What more could a person accomplish in their craft, their profession.

And Buddy performed his greatest playing wearing a 3 peace suit and tie.

No can say "Greatest"...but in my view he had more raw talent than anyone...he never practiced other than playing with the band. Its just raw talent and incredible music memory...he could learn a piece extremely fast.

Those Ludwigs look absolutely beautiful… and he didn’t substitute the snare with a Fibes. A very tightly tuned snare.l

You see Buddy really enjoying himself here partly because he loved playing with Johnny Carsons band and they were serious professionals no slop no mistakes. But dont be fooled, Buddy could be a really nasty guy because he always gives 110% but if the band hes playing with - even his own band - doesnt measure up he was well known to get nasty and really tear into them after a gig. There are tapes from their tour bus of Buddy viciously tearing his band guys apart because they didnt play well as he demanded on a particular night. By the same token, if his band played really well he let them know he was pleased, the quality of the performance was very serious to Buddy and it showed in his work.
