This was just before Fela's Afrobeats was rediscovered by the new acts. When Nigerian artists were still drawing their inspiration from American acts. Nostalgic 🔥❤️
@davies933132 жыл бұрын
The sounds you hear in the Nigerian music today is nothing of Fela. I don't know where people got this myth from. At most it only sometimes incorporates Fela's sound as it does so many other artists from various backgrounds and generations, primarily local sounds and then some foreign ones. The sounds are just coming from everywhere. The connection with Fela began with the similarity of the names Afrobeat (of Fela) and Afrobeats (of African sounds). This term was used around ten years ago or less by a UK-based Ghanaian DJ to describe the sounds coming out of the African continent as against other sounds. That's how the association with Fela began. Also, the sounds aren't really a new thing as such. They have been around for ages but increasingly got popular and successful and everyone jumped on them.

Some comments here are quite terrible in terms of history. African music, in this case, Nigerian music, didn't start with these guys or their generation. Their sound isn't even representative of their generation. There have always been all manner of sounds, artists and music evolutions within borders and time frames. It's been as steady as life. The sudden explosion of the Nigerian music beyond it's traditional borders in this age is largely because of the internet which took the power away from the mainstream media around the world, making it possible for people anywhere across the world to find any kind of music of their taste beyond their borders. With the touring of the African artists among the diaspora, other people became aware of their music and now looked them up and their popularity grew. These Styl-Plus guys just happened to be from around the last generation before the social media era.
