In WW2, the Soviet Union lost 3 million soldiers in the first 6 months. They were classified as "untermensch" or "subhumans" by the invaders, and were to be exterminated. (The invaders intended to take their land). The civilians were rounded up, put in halls, and burnt to death. The alternative to fighting in the war was to wait till it was your turn to die. Lyudmila Pavlichenko was an extraordinary good shot, and could lie hidden and still for hours; she made a very good sniper. Nearly one million women served in the Red Army, as snipers, infantry, pilots, tank drivers, artillery, etc. There were about one million nurses; they often served right up in the front line. About 26 million Soviets were killed resisting the invaders, before they eventually took Berlin. Lyudmila Pavlichenko said that she could not stay out of the war knowing others were being killed, when she was very skilled herself. She later made speeches in the US, to get help for the Soviet Union; she was the first Soviet citizen to stay at the White House.

This is a real story of female sniper. Lyudmila Mikhailovna Pavlichenko[a] (née Belova; July 12, 1916 - October 10, 1974) was a Red Army Soviet sniper during World War II.[1] Credited with 309 kills, she is ranked as one of the top military snipers of all time[2] and the most successful female sniper in history.

She went to the war because she wanted to help her country to win the war. It was her own decision. She knew that she is a good sniper. The movie is based on the real woman’s sniper, she was the best. Check her out

In this war, the USSR against the German Nazi racists, fought not only women, but also children! Soviet children! I fought, literally the WHOLE country! No one forced them! My grandfather went to war at the age of 17!(picked up from 18) And the war for him ended not in May, but in July! Because he was still in Europe finishing off the Nazis! He helped Europe. It's good that he doesn't know how Europe feels about his feat right now

It was a World War as it is. There was no place for "they can't fight 'cause they're women" everyone do something, if not on the battlefield then on factories making food and ammo for the army.

In my family, this war affected everyone, and from the history of my great-grandfathers and great-grandmothers I can say that even children took part in this war - they worked in factories and fields, dug trenches, and sometimes took part in battles.

In the Soviet Union, women were equal to men. I have heard many stories about the exploits of women in that war. For example, when, because of the girl nurse, the whole company of soldiers rose from the trenches and went on the attack under the machine guns of the Germans. Or about the girl nurse who, after the bombing, herself, without a leg, tied up the soldiers.

here's who this video is about 100 years ago, July 12, 1916, Lyudmila Pavlichenko was born-the most successful female sniper in world history, who had on his account 309 confirmed fatal hits in soldiers and officers of the enemy troops, for which he was nicknamed "Lady Death". Having got on a front line, Lyudmila Pavlichenko couldn't bring herself to shoot at the person. How is that even possible?! All the sentiments have removed the first fight. The young neighbour, who was sitting in the trench, suddenly twitched, arms outstretched, and fell on his back. "He was a wonderful happy boy, who was killed right before my eyes," later Lyudmila recalled. "Nothing could stop me now." Before the immediacy of this girl could not resist even the wife of us President Eleanor Roosevelt: invited her to live in the White house. Later, Eleanor Roosevelt invited Lyudmila Pavlichenko on a trip around the country. Lyudmila spoke before the international student Assembly in Washington, before the Congress of industrial organizations (CIO), as well as in new York, but many remember her speech in Chicago. "Gentlemen," a clear voice echoed over the crowd of thousands. - I'm twenty-five years old. At the front, I have managed to destroy three hundred nine invaders. Don't you gentlemen think you've been hiding behind me for too long?!» The crowd froze for a minute and then exploded with a frantic noise of approval…

Sevastopol was attacked by the German 11th Army commanded by Erich von Manstein (one of Germany's best Generals). The attack on Sevastopol began in October 1941, and they expected to take Sevastopol by end of December. However, Sevastopol held out for 280 days till July 1942. In Sevastopol they say we did not surrender;:"Sevastopol Never Surrender". There was virtually none left to defend. The 11th Army and Manstein were to have accompanied the 6th Army commanded by Paulus. However, the 11th Army had sustained such casualties that it could not take part in the attack on Stalingrad (fought into the winter of 1942 - 43). The Russian General Chuikov defended brilliantly within the city; until a pincer counter-attack by Zhukov surrounded the 6th Army, which finally surrendered. That was the turning point. After the tank battle at Kursk in July 1943, the Red Army advanced relentlessly until Berlin was captured on 9th May 1945, ending the War in Europe. "The Battle for Sevastopol" prevented Manstein's 11th Army from being part of the attack with Paulus' 6th Army -- perhaps it set up or contributed significantly to the Victory at Stalingrad.

According to the movie the girl was sent to war because she had good sharpshooting test results. I was a big fan of lyudmila growing up but only recently watched the movie and while some scenes were unrealistic representations (ie one particular moment) most of it was realistic like her close relationship with presidents wife. I would reccomend it. Watch the russian one it has english subs

According to Russian popular belief, the cuckoo is something like an oracle, a prophet. Usually, having heard the cuckoo in the forest, the Russian asks: "Cuckoo, cuckoo, how many years have I been left to live?" It is believed that in return, the cuckoo will shout as many times as the person has to live. Therefore, for the Russian the meaning of the song is absolutely consistent with this performance. Moreover, I do not know the best performance of this song. Polina sang the beginning in a whisper, emphasizing the secrecy of the questions, it makes the song look like a prayer. How many songs are not yet written? In the city I will live or in the settlements? Will I lie like a stone, or burn with a star? My sun, look at me My palm turned into a fist And if there is gunpowder, give fire! The only way! The next part of the song expresses the pain about dead or lost (in a figurative sense) friends, and people in general. This piece sounds like a cry. Who will follow the lonely trail Strong and brave heads lost in the field, in battle Few people remained in the bright memory In a sober mind, and with a firm hand in the ranks, in the ranks My sun, look at me My palm turned into a fist And if there is gunpowder, give fire! The only way! The final part of the song combines prayer and the cry of the soul. Where are you now, free will? With whom are you now meeting the gentle dawn? (Крик- Scream/ cry) Ответь! Answer it! Good with you, but bad without you Pulling his head into shoulders, patient people go under the whip, under the whip My sun, look at me My palm turned into a fist And if there is gunpowder, give fire! The only way! This song is cry for the dead, a prayer and a call to fight at the same time.

Do you know that she was a REAL one? Her name Ludmila Pavlichenko, she was a sniper and she killed more than 300 fascist officers... And she was a member of peaceful delegation of Soviet Union in USA, and they became good friends with the wife of the President of the United States (Eleanor Roosevelt). After her speech in Congress, senators unanimously voted to join the war against Hitler Germany... She said: "I am twenty five years old. At the front, I had already managed to destroy three hundred and nine fascist invaders. Do you think, gentlemen, that you have been hiding behind my back too long ?" And yes, when she entered real war, she was 23 years old!
