As a doctor, I observed that many people assumed the tears were due to Lara. However, what truly struck me was Demetri's expression in the video. He looked a little emaciated, and his demeanor, combined with her voice, moved me to tears.

Deep bow to you sir for making the reaction to this magnificent performance. In the first seconds of the performance, the announcement, we can see Lilia Vinogradova, the charming poet, lady that worked close with Dmitry and Igor and on her face we clearly see an inner struggle not to brake and start to cry knowing that this gorgeous man is actually dying. This performance is the epitaph to a man's life, never ending fight for tomorrow and true artistry.

Hvorostovsky was a magnificent singer and performer. You might be interested in listening to his version of Farewell Joy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoKppaKrobp8f5I It's exquisite, and he sings it a capella, showing his incredible voice and skills. No subtitles, but it's about the heartbreak of the men who did not come home from WW2. He also toured Russia with the great Renée Fleming, and there are some incredible videos of performances they gave in private opera houses that date back to Catherine the Great. I am thankful for the recordings: I listen to his voice often. (In the video at the link, there are two women in the audience shown: the first, with white hair, is his mother. The second, dark, curly-haired woman in profile, was his wife.)
