Are you worried about the loss, or do you trust in Matt Rhule??

At first I was, but the fact that we got someone really good this quick makes me think that Rhule and staff knew Cooper was going to resign. Or there was at least the chance that he would.

I must admit I was worried as well, the Nebraska curse. But when the replacement was named so quickly it made me realized they knew what was going on. Supposed relations with a track athlete or intern. Maybe Rhule and new AD just have a no bs policy and want to make sure drama doesn’t cloud the teams success.

Well-managed teams constantly update lists of players and coaches that are available or could be available just in case, say, all 3 of your OLBs wind up on the injured list or your DB coach has to resign in a hurry.

Yeah and ya think the local media people didn't get wind of this? C'mon. So they are nothing more than a mouthpiece for the University Athletic Dept. As if none of them know "WHY" Cooper was probably FORCED to resign. You don't resign a 700k a year job where you have a 2 year guaranteed deal, so 1.4 million, if ya didn't do something unforgivable. The rumor, from a reliable source, is that he had trouble keeping it in his pants with recruits moms.

I think the D will be fine under Tony White’s leadership, and John Butler is obviously a great hire. I too expect Tony White to land a HC job after the season, although my hope would be that he’s choosy, and would stay another year if he wasn’t excited about the opportunities presented to him. That leads to my one misgiving about Butler, Connor, and your prediction that he could slide right into the DC job in Lincoln-the 3-3-5. The blown assignments and players way out of position on Nebraska’s defense that we experienced repeatedly in the recent past appeared to have been fixed. White’s defense offered so many alignments that opposing offenses struggled to break the code. I always assumed that when Tony White departed that an acolyte of the 3-3-5 on staff, like Cooper, would be promoted. The Husker defense doesn’t need to learn a new defense again…right?

you know, with the speed this guy was hired, this had to be in the works. Maybe Evan wasn't cutting the mustard or this new guy was a real get and he sacrificed Evan Cooper...but I don't think it happened that way. I think its because of recruiting. Evan was supposed to be a real force in recruiting and was responsible for a lot in that area. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but our class isn't anything to write home to mom about. Only 3, 4 stars and no Blue Chippers. Plus they've missed out on a lot of guys recently, even if they are reaching a bit. Rhule needs a really good season on the field, THEN he'll be able to capitalize on the Dylan Raiola recruitment and the winning season and put together a higher ranked class. But I don't think he would throw his long time assistant under the bus just for an NFL D backs coach, so it must have been performance related somehow, in either the position group coaching or recruiting.

My friend I believe you made an error. His year at DC was 2013 not 2012 (DB coach only) which was when they were ranked 16th in scoring D. The defense did slip a little bit in 2013 and ranked 51st with him as a DC.

@@CornCrazed Yeah well let's look at it... They knew all week he was going to resign, and you don't resign a 2-year 700k a year contract due to "health issues." So they drop the resignation on the Friday after THE 4th at 4pm, and then almost IMMEDIATELY have a replacement... . So the narrative isn't "Why did he resign," but "Oh wow! We got Butler now!" So it was something they are trying to sweep under the rug ASAP. It is just sort of an insult to our intelligence. It isn't something "good." If it were a "falling out" he would have let himself get fired to keep his money and benefits for 2 years.

Bottom line is simple....if our huskers dont beat colorado in our 2nd game the season is already a bust and over....i know u wont agree corny cause you think every year we got a shot to win 7 games which is hilarious but not the point.....your point is u would be over the moon excited over making a toilet bown game smh....i could care less about a toilet bowl game as we used to make a good bowl every year until the great fall lmao...so a bowl game is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......and a loss to colorado this season is a wrap!...have to beat a zero defense colorado team....unfortunately a zero defense team colorado beat our zero offensive team last season....lets see how far our offense has come in one year lol

You live in fantasy land lol. I’ve said multiple times that winning 6 games would be a disappointment, so at this point you just create your own story about what I believe 🤷🏼‍♂️ Also, there’s a world where they lose to Colorado, improve since the offense will have a true freshman QB who gets better as the season goes on and wins more games down the back stretch.

Hmmm, could personal reasons mean a loss of confidence in Matt rhules leadership? At least we still have Tony White. Defense was spot on last year. It was the turnovers and traditionally poor head coaching calls of Matt Rhule that lost us games last year. Minesotta, Wisconsin, Michigan St and Maryland were all losses due to bad coaching calls.
