Reacting to EVERY 200cc World Record in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Today we take a deep dive into the 200cc Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Record scene for the first time. I went through the 150cc Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Records close to 2 years ago in March 2023 and always wanted to see what the 200cc scene had going on. I have done my own time trials as a beginner for MK8DX since 2023 but primarily on 150cc. I look forward to completing my own 200cc time sheet after watching through all of these!
Congratulations to all the competitors that grind for their times up to and including the highest level for the WRs. Responses for NMeade: (To my best knowledge, correct me if I’m wrong) 3:38 l1 (Lap 1) you need to go wide to get two coins. l3 (Lap 3) You can’t charge a umt (Ultra Mini Turbo) after doing the cut meaning you can’t do l3 strat. 6:42 Yep, every WR became easier to beat and unoptimized. Some easier than others. 8:26 This tech is called Jenzua Glider. My knowledge isn’t super good on it but basically while in a glider when you trick on a trickable surface your momentum is used and you move. Correct me in the replies if I’m wrong. 9:56 To my knowledge no, large Mii do share the same stats are Dry Bowser, Wario, and Funky Kong. 10:31 I assume it is pretty consistent. I haven’t really tted this track much. 28:35 Again another track I haven’t tted much but it’s just one of those strange MK8DX shortcuts 33:10 Fun Fact this was the track that has the first 1,000 day old record. dCL (Cheese Land) is looking like it’ll be the next 1,000 day record 36:13 This track and a few others are heavily impacted from the acceleration bug. Basically in wave 5 a bug was introduced which made a few WR’s impossible to beat. On the MK8DX WR KZbin channel they have a really good video on the bug which I would high recommend watching. 39:42 Fun Fact this and one other have not been beaten since the wave 4 balance change. They both fall under the same category of being kinda luck tracks. 51:56 It is Yoshi / Teddy Buggy / Rollers / Paper Glider 52:39 I would love to have something on rRRd / trainbow (N64 Rainbow Road) don’t know what but something. rRRd is my favorite track so just gotta hope. 1:00:38 Woah my favorite track 1:18:12 It is just cause you’re to fast 1:22:09 2nd place is the former WR. The player who set it though doesn’t play anymore 1:23:40 This is the other track that hasn’t had the WR beaten since wave 4 has been released. 1:24:33 I don’t think this is one of the hardest, it obviously isn’t easy, but it is just kind of a luck track 1:28:26 Gonna be honest I have no idea 1:43:49 No not currently, they give a 1:00.246. Sub 1 will probably never happen 1:44:06 Another track that is heavily impacted by acceleration bug

Another thing to know is that they patched a glitch during the wave 5 update making some WRs used with inward drift impossible to beat if they were set in wave 4 or prior (these are Toad's Turnpike, Paris Promenade and London Loop). I'd recommmend watching Gyrodos' video on the matter if you wanna know more about this.

For most of these World Records, they are using motion gliders and also known as the JenZua glider technique, it’s a lot faster than just tricking. Great video as always Nick!

8:13 2:29:49 this strategy is called jenzua glider, it’s when you motion glider into a trickable ramp and after your trick it sends you flying, if you motion glider left and trick, it’ll shift your left and same goes for right, this was also used on the electrodrome record and merry mountain, but Alberto used the turnaround which was possible on electrodrome 200cc.

I think it would be super fun for you to watch all of the mkds world records at some point, the precise snaking around corners and some REALLY cool strats (such as in waluigi pinball and luigi's mansion) make them a great watch, plus with only 32 tracks it wouldn't eat up such a huge amount of time to make!

3:50 I'm not a MK8 time trialer myself, but I've been told before that it's not possible to charge an MT while doing the gap cut shroom. So for it to save time you also need to follow it with the glider shroom, which is why it is only done once. Also, the reason they're sometimes using different shroom strats for lap 1 and 2/3 on other tracks, is because the start boost is really weak on 200cc. So on tracks with little to no off-road, it's the fastest to use the mushroom to reach top speed right at the start.

I think it's interesting how it's only a 9-coin record. it also seems to be one of the few records to survive the wave 3 balance patch which makes the lines and only collecting 9 coins even more fascinating! Great video man, ended up learning quite a bit myself throughout. Glad to hear you got big things in the works. Regarding your comment about the next Mario Kart game, I'm curious to see if Nintendo will continue to honor their old system (bringing back tracks that have never been remade) for retros, or after Deluxe and the booster course pass, just bring back fan favorites, or a combination of both. Another question is how many will they bring back (32, 48, 96), my only worry is they treat Mario Kart like Splatoon and other Nintendo games through spoon-feeding updates throughout it's lifecycle. I'm ok with the DLCs, but I want the game to have a strong foundation of tracks like prior Mario Karts (Especially if the free updates could have been completed upon release or are being withheld). Either way, really appreciate the new content and keep it up fella!

1:28:26 The part next to the water stream isn't offroad, but the boost gained by the water is so small that it is indeed faster to just take the turns tight on 200cc

2:58 that new Strat is known as the turnskip. It saves around .2 over using the shroom for the motion glider. It’s not done in all 3 laps simply because of how difficult it is. 7:11 probably electrodrome. 9:31 that is known as a jenzua glider. It’s where you get a trick boost while motion gliding and the game there you to the side. 16:21 ribbon road lol I’m a track specialist. 22:26 there’s no where else good and traction I guess. 27:03 I’m no where near a legend but from my experience those are very difficult but you can get the hang of it. 36:22 it is updated but there is a new bug that makes getting record impossible so they use the wr without the bug. MK8DX records has a video covering that bug (called acceleration bug). 38:55 the hill is steeper that the falling speed and he is getting slight air so he isn’t actually hitting any off road when he exits. 43:15 usually changes on sharp turns and glider sections, but otherwise it’s quite similar. 52:48 rainbow road 64 jump like in the og. 1:18:02 better alignment. 1:43:50 no. 1:47:28 tea all day no competition.(I’ll update this as I watch the video)

For the tricks on the eel, you should try to trick by shaking the controler instead of using the drift button. That allows you to get more tricks without having problems with your direction

You said the mach 8 is the spear, its somewhat like the spear. It shares the same stats as the Ink Striker and Sports Coupe. Its stats are not like the spear that much. The mach 8 is really good on anti gravity tracks and 200cc overall due to its mix of speed and really decent drift / handling.

I noticed something about this video. 2 of the downloaded wrs are wrong due to a rules change. Reason: Records came pre-wave 5 on tracks heavily affected by Accel bug, both Toad's Turnpike and Paris Promenade are so affected by this that the "wr" on both of those tracks were made unbeatable. London Loop also had it's pre wave 5 wr removed, but that ended up getting beaten.

I dont know exactly for mario kart stadium, it is a very hard strat especially on teddy buggy which charges mt's slower than the biddy buggy for example or mr scooty, but i dont know if its enough to like, not go for it all 3 laps... Uh as well, the 200cc records havent changed as much than 150cc as you cant really do alot more mt's on 200cc and most of the time speed is prioritised over mini turbo because of what i said, thats why there are lots of crazy combos. That strat on thwomp ruins is called the jenzua glider and its when you use your motion control glider to propulse yourself and it is way faster, on electrodrome too. Uh, i know that heavy mii is same stats as funky, dry browser and wario, but i don't think the miis have been impacted by the balance patch. Ill probably make another comment for other questions 😊

I would be up for it! Unfortunately there’s no ghost database for RR so doing that for now isn’t really a feasible task, but if they had a database in the future where you could download the ghosts I would make it happen

Electrodrome 200cc is my favorite time trial in mario kart 8 deluxe by far, absolutely carried by the jenzua glider at the end (= all of that invisible boundary sling shot stuff Nicholas was talking about in Thwomp ruins) Also the jenzua glider doesn't work in 150cc
