I don't like Reeve at all but She is right. The WNBA must implement a third 'umpire' review system. The referees must not have any input in this process. Each team has a set number of challenges each game. If they are successful, they retain that challenge. The refereeing this seasons was awful.

Great post, 100%. But - I'd be willing to bet that if you follow the money - bias from the comissioner himself personally is not the reason this stuff happens. There are big money reasons a team like NY gets annointed to beat a team like MN. And I'm from MN. Big money market, big money makes a big difference to the people who control the league, so this is what they do. Probably justify it as being the best decision for the league overall. I don't believe this is the only league that cancels out places like us in MN when it comes to championships. Vikings can NEVER get it done, Wolves got x'd out last year, twins are garbage. League officials will not LET us win anything.

Not only did Stewie travel but she might have been called for charging since Smith had set in defensive position. Obviously the worst error was calling the foul on Smith when the replays showed that she clearly got the ball first and even if she got Stewie's hand, if it was on the ball , by rule it's part of the ball. The fact that the officials, after the challenge, had to have seen the one camera view from behind the basket that clearly shows no foul calls into question their impartiality. The game itself was not very good with bad outside shooting and tons of missed layups and now the result is being called into question. The WNBA needs to overhaul its referee corps or, at the very least , monitor their performance more closely.

Had that foul not called...NY had a 90+% chance of JJ getting the rebound for the put back or even possibly an and1 over the shorter Natisha Hiedeman 5.2 seconds to go...the play was designed to go quick a leave time for rebound...but credit to the Lynx, they made it a tough series for a liberty team that spent all year focusing on beating LVA and gave it all in the semis and had to dig deeper to find more mental ammo to beat Lynx...All year long they were thinking game 4 last year and how to beat LVA whenever they met...that sucked all the energy out of them. But the refs got tangled in a hyped Barclays arena and was ready to call the foul at inbound time...could have been an and1 and not even going into overtime. Coaches and players have to quit putting up with WWNBA nonsense and scripting. They literally have to start quitting, on air, at post game press conferences. That will draw some attention. Reeves knows that in this league, you sometimes get away with physicality and aggressiveness (in other words, fouling indiscriminately) because her team got away with this every time they played Clark and the Fever (no fouls called against the Lynx, touch fouls or no contact fouls called on the Fever). Reeves is not wrong about what she said but it is hypocritical as she knows referees have allowed her team to do the same to the Fever.

Rewatch the Lynx Fever games before making such a statement. They Lynx do not play bully ball, Indiana and MN are about the only two teams that try to play clean basketball. There's a little pushing and shoving from Smith and Collier here & there (and from Boston and from Smith and from Clark for that matter) but it's not NFL style play like most of the other teams play when their backs are against the wall. I've always considered the Liberty to be a relatively clean team as well in general, until they decided that clean ball wasn't going to beat the Lynx. Out came the gloves. MN punched back but punching isn't their greatest strength. McBride turned it up against Connecticut, as a matter of self defense. They all did, Connecticut is a prime example of bully ball. They pulled the same crap against the Lynx that they pulled on the Fever, 'cause that's how they play. Disgusting.

These games had one sided reffing that allowed the Lynx to be physical in pushing and grabbing while the Fever were called for marginal or no contact. Reeves knows this happens.

The refs have been this blatantly bad all season under the guise of it being a "more physical league." So you get these no calls that are blatant fouls and these phantom calls with marginal impact. The WNBA has a PR problem. They basically have to fire the head referee, if they don't nobody will believe the rigging wasn't ordered by the commissioners office. But I see that she shoots from the hip and tells it like it is. Without truly knowing the ins and outs, I am inclined to believe her when she talks about the other organizations - the Aces and the Liberty - breaking the rules. The Lynx were robbed and that worse than useless commissioner will do nothing about it. Money must be changing hands.
