It’s actually crazy that the last time Max Verstappen finished outside of the points was 2016, but even more so that in total it only happened 5 times in his 185 racestarts. 4 of those were when he drove for Toro Rosso, so the last time he finished a race outside of the points is the only time it happened for him in Red Bull

I don’t think 5 different teams winning a race is THAT impossible. Ferrari won last year, Aston got close in Monaco, McLaren won a sprint (and Lando win hype is at its highest), and Mercedes looked good on pace in Qatar and Singapore. If Max looks semi human it can happen.

i think its very very unlikely - theres still a second RB on the grid, and if the car is good Checo is still very good. 3 would be more likely... Suzuka will be in probably better conditions being different timing in the year... but there is 24 races so some more opportunity i guess. I think maybe across the sprints we might see some, having GP qualifying AFTER the sprint race might see the likes of RB not taking risks if needed for a couple more points - theyll save the car for GP Quali

For that Albon podium, I'm going to say it's a wet or cold race, Williams starts him from pitlane due to a car upgrade or parts swap, first 4 or 5 cars to the 1st corner crash out, Williams on podium.

10:30 I don't really understand the Piastri slander from Matt regarding his race pace. Ultimately it all comes down to his tire management. It's not out of the norm to see F1 rookies struggle with this in their first season. Different factors including suspension set-up, ride height, centre of gravity, downforce and brake balance can all affect tire management depending on the driving style. Piastri can easily make the adjustments needed to correct this issue with his engineer after last season. They can also set up his car to suit his style. But Matt is implying that Piastri will still have the same achilles heel as last season. That's way too presumptuous.

Why do you have to be contrarian as if tyre management isn't of significant importance when it comes to race pace. Also, it's not like he didn't say it was impossible for Oscar to work out those issues, only that they existed and as such it would be a reach to suggest that he'll win before Lando, (this part of the take I don't necessarily agree with, all it takes is one good day and everything to fall into place.) however at the end of his monologue he did note that, it's still possible for Oscar to work through them but that people shouldn't get too ahead of themselves. I think that's perfectly reasonable. Maybe you posted before finishing the video or idk.

I quite literally mentioned the factors affecting tyre management and set up issues. Also it was Tom who mentioned that it was only his “rookie season” and that he could fix those issues in his sophomore year in F1. Matt was the one who implied that Oscar Piastri will still have the same tyre management problems and so it is impossible for him to beat Norris. That’s why I accused him of being presumptuous.

Not sure if this counts as bold given last season, but to be contrarian to the other predictions here I think there will only be 2 race winners in 2024: Max and Lando, with Max winning to a somewhat similar margin as last year and Lando in a comfortable yet distant P2 in the championship.

False. no shot Merc is udderly dominant. They were more than a second off the pace at the end of last year, and had no top end speed. RBR is going to continue service as usual, possibly picking up more time on the field. Merc is going to wallow around in the mid field on the track until the last 5 or 6 races. McLaren is going to be the #2 team on the grid, and Ferrari and Merc will be fighting for 3rd. @@abdullahamir626

The Alonso prediction isn't just reasonable I kinda bank on that very one happening. The Logan one also isn't that crazy. It's not at all impossible Haas will be a dud, and Williams is in a good place. Logan is in his 2nd year maybe he finds himself. He may not need a huge step to get ahead of both Haas' in that car. I'd say it's a reasonable gamble actually but Zhou? Yeah idk that makes it a bit crazier and agreed kinda unnecessary lol Poor Zhou esp as so far he's flashed more potential than Logan has. That said Alfa may also be a dud and again if Logan makes a step forward or yeah has an opportune race, its not too bonkers.

Looking at last years testing times for comparison, it appears alot of teams are sandbagging heavily so far, focusing on data collection, not pace, much like last year, where vast majority waited until 3rd day to put any pace laps up. Going to be interesting to see how the 3 days goes. Max 'quick' lap is still slow by last years Q3 time too. He's close on his fastest testing time from last year he set day 2.

My bold prediction is Alpine will collapse and finish like 7-8th behind Williams (they almost had 100 more points than them last year so i guess it's quite bold). They're in a streak of bad luck, engine is trash, their drivers seem to hate each other, and the top management is so messy, in constant revolution (they're French after all). Over half of the grid are Grand Prix race winners. Lewis, Max, Fernando, Valtteri, Danny Ric, Checo, Charles, Carlos, George, Esteban, and Pierre. Eleven drivers on the grid have proven potential to win. Granted, not all of them are in the machinery likely to do the job, but still, they have it in them. Add in the fact that two very good drivers are in a car which is in the conversation for F1 race wins and I'm not so sure 5 different race winners is so crazy. That is, provided Max is not given such an insanely dominant car. Not to take anything from Max and his incredible skill, but racing him in a RB19 would be like being chased by a T1000 riding on Godzilla but you're in the Final Destination universe. That car was late nineties Accord reliable and I swear to God they have an experimental warp drive in there because I saw spacetime move out of Max's way a few times last year.

The other teams have made very big progress.I'm not saying that McLaren isn't going to be competitive, just because McLaren finished better last year doesn't mean it's starting to be the second team. Let's not forget Mercedes, Ferrari And above all Aston Martin. These have evolved a lot and had a greater margin for improvement than McLaren.

Four drivers- Verstappen, Hamilton, Norris, and Alonso. Ferrari reliability will let LeClerc and Sainz down too much to be competitive at the end. A Williams podium? Maybe, definitely able to get points, could be possible with enough chaos. 5 different teams winning? Maybe 3- RBR, McLaren, and Ferrari. 4 DNFs? Yeah, that sounds reasonable. Piastri over Norris? Could be. Sargeant P17? I'd like to see it, and I could see him potentially being up to P15 over the year if he's improved enough. McLaren finishing that low? They'd need to DNF half the races as a team.
