The scene where Mike, Abby, and Vanessa are just having a fun time with the animatronics is probably my favorite scene in the whole movie. In the world of FNAF, its easy to forget that these killer animatronics are being controlled by little kids who never had the chance to live life and are now full of rage and hate. Their whole existence revolves around seeking revenge for the one who murdered them, but just this once they put aside their vengeance and actually make this little girl's day by being her friend and making her feel the way they used to feel when they came to Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria.

I was full on bawling in the theater when that part came on. I've always found FNAF much more tragic than scary because at its core the story revolves around innocent children who's lives were cruelly taken from them, and are forced to live on afterward as bloodthirsty monsters built and designed by the same man who hurt them. Their very existence is a nonstop reminder of the pain they went through, but at their cores, they're still just terrified kids. It made me so happy to not only see that reflected in the movie, but to see those poor kids get to just goof around and be kids again for a couple hours. This is absolutely one of my favorite scenes in any live-action movie ever 💕

When Vanessa and Mike are talking about Mike's family after the thugs broke in, you can see the pain on her face when Mike tells how perfect his parents were. I think it's during this conversation that she realizes her dad killed Garrett, so the pain on her face is probably due to two things. The first is that she realizes how broken Mike's family was because of her father, and her helping Mike protecting Abby could be a way to kind of make up for Garrett dying. The second is because Mike is describing the nice little things his parents did, like hold hands and say grace before meals, and we know Vanessa most likely didn't get that. It probably hurts her to hear other people talk about nice, normal childhood things when her dad was manipulative and possibly abusive. She never got to have the nice little things, and that could be why she says that Mike is actually lucky. Even if those things are gone, he at least got to enjoy them at some point. There are so many hints and bits and pieces about her character throughout the movie, I think it's a bit better on second watch because you know why she has those expressions, says these little things, knows where things are, etc.

Refreshing to see someone talk positively about this movie and actually understanding what it is going for. It's a love letter to the fans telling an original story on top of the already established lore, and I for one like the whole plot about Mike first trying to get his lost brother back in the dream world, but then realizing that his sister is more important and then fighting to save her. I liked this movie a ton, and that comes from someone who is not even really a "fan" of the games.

A cool detail about this movie is that all the animatronics are actual robots! Especially Foxy! They do have versions where actors put on the costume, but only for Chica, Bonnie and Fredy. For Foxy's case he is entirely an animatronic since he cant be made into a costume because of his legs, which are just two metal pipes

Even though this film wasn't made for me (I have no knowledge of the FNAF IP other than the animatronics), I still found it pretty decent as a standard horror flick. It does a great job at appealing to the fans since this is what the film was made to do. But as a film in general, if it had more of a tighter script and more screen time for Freddy and his gang, I would've appreciated it more. But again, I found the film pretty good.

for me, the only thing i can think of would be to clarify and/or set up earlier how he was controlling the kids. after seeing a couple reactions its become more clear, but first time it was a little muddy. the only real reference being the throwaway line from the doctor about pictures having power over kids. I get trip feeding lore was a thing in the games, but for a movie, an extra line here or there wouldn't hurt. other then that, i thought it was fine for what it was.

Lots of lore differences on this. -Mike isn't Mike Afton is one of the biggest one -Vanessa outta nowhere -Mike experiencing "William Afton springlock failure" And lots more. And the reason of William murdering bunch of child is complex, there's no way I can explain this on a comment section. But this movie kinda makes things simpler. But the main big thing that doesn't really change is Golden Freddy hating on William greater than the other 4. Also, Spring Bonnie just became Springtrap after the springlock failure. This is important to the lore. I don't know where they gonna take the movie, but William will be back, he always do.
@yesnt8941
@yesnt8941 11 ай бұрын
Mike was never explicitly said to be an afton, that stemmed from Matpat, Vannessa gets a better story, the springlock failure is directly from the book, the lore is heavily on the books, scott has said a million times the lore is different per medium but there are equivalents throughout (ella = baby dave= william etc etc) the film expects you to know everything, not just the games, as it should.

This film was a love letter for sure. But the best thing by far is the animatronics. They were created by Jim Henson Creature shop and were all puppets and actual animatronics. No CGI used to make them move and walk around. It is the best thing that could have happened. What makes this movie come to life is the use of practical effects and little to CGI, and the set design, they built an entire full scale pizzeria interior within an old, abandoned Home Depot. And as a lifelong FNAF fan, I was not disappointed. I do wish it was a little scarier though, but the corniness was kinda enjoyable. ^-^

I do like that the movie has its own unique lore while still being a compliment to the game lore. For instance, in the games Michael is actually William Afton’s son, and Vanessa is seemingly unrelated to Afton, but they still stayed true to the characters of Mike being an older brother who is haunted by guilt over his little brother’s death and Vanessa is someone who is being controlled against her will by Afton. I love that you picked up on the credits not saying which kid is possessing which animatronic because that is absolutely something Scott would leave a mystery as theory fodder. Cawthon is notorious for leaving loose threads and confusion over what’s actually happening in the story. Honestly that’s half the fun of FNaF and part of what created such a rich community around this series in the first place. Because so much of the lore is left open, we’ve had 10 years of youtube videos and Reddit posts trying to piece together this story. It’s an entire collaborative experience outside of these simple single player games, and Scott has been super supportive of all of it. Also, you’re not poking holes in the story to wonder why Afton did the things he did; there’s definitely more (I think they’ve planned three movies so far). It wasn’t until the fourth or fifth games that we really started to understand what William Afton’s motivations might be. And even now, the order of events are not super clear. So don’t expect to ever have all the answers, but definitely expect to learn more if they make more films.

A small bit of info about the yellow rabbit suit. That one is or was called spring bonnie, he was bonnies predecessor like how golden Freddy or as he was originally called fredbear, is freddy fazbears predecessor. The reason that suit is so big is because it was designed to hold animatronics or be used as a costume for people. But the locking spring mechanisms are dangerous for a human since it goes into your flesh, tears your vocal chords, and replaces your eyes with the animatronics eyes.

I really like this movie because I feel like it encapsulates the spirit of the games really well! The first game, in my opinion, is one of the scariest, but the series never showed much blood or gore at all, which I appreciate. I think I especially like how it doesn’t try to be a typical horror movie, but embraces doing its own thing, the fort scene being one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie. People tend to acknowledge the animatronics being possessed by kids, but gloss over the implications of it, so I absolutely adore how they have a whole montage of them just acting like kids! I understand it’s not for everyone but it exceeded my expectations and I’m so happy to have this be the series’s first foray into cinema!

48:46 No, because the suit was a springlock-suit, it can be use as an animatronic and a wearable-suit but it’s very unstable once the suit was hit with force or a drop of water it will cause a springlock-failure thus switch back into an animatronic and kill whoever wear the suit

Even as someone that has followed the games and theories via MatPat and stuff, the movie was just okay to me. Hardcore fans probably loved it. Also, the entire FNAF main restaurant was actually built inside an abandoned Home Depot or something like that. Michael's suit just malfunctioned and that's why it crushed him like that. It didn't get possessed or anything.

The Living Tombstone is a fan musician that got his start doing pony songs and remixes, then branched out into other fandoms. The song at the end was a fan song of his he did many years ago (i think right after the first game came out and got big). he said they had approached him all the way back in 2018 about using the song in the movie. He's had to keep it secret this entire time. I personally think the most awesome part of the movie. been following him since his days doing MLP music and its amazing to see him getting the chance to have his work featured in a theatrical film. for the movie itself, I did really like it. i'm not the biggest fnaf fan, and didn't know more then some of the basics of the lore, but i've enjoyed many of the fanworks and fan songs. the movie wasn't what i was expecting, but liked what they did with it. thought the actors were great, the animatronics were all amazing and the story was interesting.

The one with the top hat is freddy, Kid with bunny ears is bonnie, The one with the hook is foxy , The little girl is chica . But the movie is alot more similar to the books , it being a parallel universe , not actually cannon but to the main story line. Blonde kid is most definitely golden Freddy, and there has been some depictions of a blonde-haired kid somewhat connected to GF in the books. And it’s rumored from the lore that GF is one of the most supernatural, more powerful entities in the franchise cuz he/they HATE Afton that much. That last shot of him looking down on Afton’s pathetic should-be corpse is a big indication. And I’d say GF at least here seems to be powerful AND the one in charge, not brown-furred Freddy. He’s the only one seemingly to talk for the group communicating with Mike. And somehow I think he’s the only one who’s able to move his animatronic body OUTSIDE the pizzeria. There’s so much to talk about, but the movie more or less captured the essence of GF without literally uttering their actual name, it’s like he’s purposely staying out of sight & sticking to the shadows….

William hid them in the animatronics because he killed them while the restaurant is still open with people still around and it would be very suspicious if he just walked out of Parts & Services (the room he would lure the kids into) with a huge bag/sack/whatever. There aren't really any good places to hide them in that room either but the animatronics are somewhat large enough to fit a child in there so, he resorted to that. And yes, eventually, the animatronics started smelling terrible & oozing weird stuff.

I know that someone else can explain it far better but for a condensed version: the version of Freddy that you see is 'Golden Freddy' (whom is the blond kid that talked to Abby) he and the Golden Rabbit whom when deteriorated is named Springtrap are both special animatronics aptly named 'springlock' suits which had the function of being both a self moving animatronic (like the others) or when using a special key can turn them into mascot suits. But like in the movie had a history of being super unstable where any hard movement or moisture can disable and unlock the springs killing the person inside.

Some behind the scenes info on the animatronics, they were created by Jim Henson’s creature shop. They had stunt suits worn by actors, but they also had full sized animatronics of each character. You should definitely watch some behind the scenes videos because the animatronics are SO cool!

Spring trap, or the yellow bunny, was always William Afton who got stuck in the yellow bunny due to spring lock failures. That was accurate. He also did get locked in the back room for about 30 years before being found again. That is also accurate. Yes, everything in this matters. Also the blond boy, represented Golden Freddy, which is not the same thing as Freddy.

As a long time fnaf fan who’s caught up on the lore of the games, I think this film did a lot of things well: -the sets and animatronics look amazing -it acknowledges the fans and puts in lots of Easter eggs and cameos for them -it ignored some of the more controversial sci fi elements of the games That being said, it definitely missed the mark on a decent amount of things: -the animatronics come off far more as goofy than creepy (this is absolutely NOT the case in the games, so it definitely was possible to make the robots at least unnerving) -the big bad William Afton gets a criminal lack of screentime and is presented more as a generic villain that the menacing and calculated man we see in the games -sometimes the fan service can get in the way of the actual movie, like William’s ‘I ALWAYS COME BACK’ is a reference to a line he says in the game, despite not really feeling like a fits the scene -the entire plot with auntie is stupid, like this seemingly rich woman wants custody of her nephew because of the ‘monthly check from the state’? Who wrote this? There are lots of other things like the whole final act, the ending, Vanessa and the writing but overall I think Ive said the main issues. That being said I don’t think the film is bad, I just think it could’ve done a better job at representing the rich source material.
@numberonesoudalover

Well the thing is with this movie, they know that we know everything about the main series so they did their best to throw in extra things that we as the fans would not see coming. I think the animatronics being goofy is really fitting considering they are just kids and in FNAF 1 they are kinda goofy in a way, I mean just look at their jumpscares; the only thing scary about them is the fact that they're sudden and the noises are loud, the actual visual jumpscares themselves are funny looking. William not seeming very main villain is also so accurate aswell because in FNAF 1 we don't even see him in the main game, the only acknowledgment we get of his existence are in the posters alone. The minigames showing what William even did don't come until far later. So from an outside perspective of someone like Mike, William isn’t some big bad because like us in the beginning, we didn’t even know of how evil William truly was, he really was like a generic villain at first. There are still issues with this movie, every movie has flaws, but the two I mentioned really aren't problems.
@Tiredartist9552

First off, even with the lack of screentime, william still comes off better here than in the games, he clearly didn’t care about dying in the suit which is why he says he’ll always come back, and puts the head on, he’s cocky, he has to have had the knowledge of how all that junk works The whole aunt thing was just a reason to push mike into having to get that job, also probably just to have a hated character Also tbh the animatronics were never unnerving in the games, even seeing them in the movie with no eye glow i felt no difference, maybe thats just because it’s obvious the story of the animatronics isnt real nor are there actual animatronics of these characters in a pizzeria, so its hard to be scared by them
@Jirodyne
@Jirodyne 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, the "I always come back" Makes LITERALLY no sense at that point. If he said it earlier when he was attacking Mike, instead of the "Symmetry, my friend!" line, he went with this "First I killed your brother, and I get to kill you. I always come back." *Kicks Mike's head* "To finish the job!" THAT would have felt more natural and an easter egg like. But him saying that makes no sense, cause he doesn't know at that point that he DOES come back possessing the suit.
@lukasruston8618
@lukasruston8618 10 ай бұрын
@@Jirodyne You say that but he literally talks to the children inside of the animatronics and realises his victims are possessing the robots so it's relatively safe to assume this is a William who has already done his research on possession and stuff like that considering he's so casual with acknowledging it... so based on that, he definitely knew that he was dying in that suit but that he would be back eventually, the line makes perfect sense if you actually think about it.

Good or bad. The movie made its money, and two possible sequels are in the works. I personally like the movie. Sure, it has its flaws, but it clearly shows its a love for the source materials and a love latter for the overall fan base. From the cameo appearance to using Living Tombstone first FNaF songs. Not to mention it does have easter eggs and hidden clues, if you know where to look, just like in the games and books. So while most movie critics hated the film. It wasn't really made for them nor was it made for normies in mind. It was made for the die-harded FNaF fans. Which is equally love or hated by them. I, for one, look forward to watching the future sequels.

So those who know the lore, it is a major deviation from the games. But as Scott says with the books, they aren't canon to the games but are more of a parallel to the games with some things being the same and others being different. I imagine this is much the same so I am able to enjoy it compared to some fans that don't like it being the same. Especially since he literally wrote the screenplay and was so involved, it's not like whoever took the project over just messed up the lore that bad. And tbf, I would have loved to see the original but you have to admit Mike here is going to be more sympathetic than in the original, for those who know.

Especially, for William Afton’s death. Like it felt really anti climatic. The lore was pretty well handled for how crazy it could get and they were respectful to all the main story beats you would see in a FNF game. All in all, it was a fun little horror slash mystery slash thriller movie. And I enjoyed watching it in theaters. Which is really all you can ask for when watching a movie like this. Springlocks that William use to kill kids is a very old suit, it can snaps shut if there is some kind of force or moisture applies to it. Unfortunately, Cupcake action did enought trick to cause a Springlocks failure. Springlocks like Vanessa explained, it is a suit that designed to be both Animatronic and suit. It has 2 modes. It’s default mode is Animatronics mode and alternative mode is Suit mode. This is working by using crank shaft to wind up the Robotic parts so that it has enough space for a person to fit inside and move around. However, it does have problem. The suit is Animatronics mode by default instead of having a suit as a default. Which means in case of a failure. All of the robotic parts will get back to their default mode. Which you can imagine what will happen if a person still inside the suit. In the movie the Suit is more simplistic and looks less painful than the game one. Springlocks in the game version is a lot more brutal as the mask also having a pin to lock the endo head in place. Which means, William feels more pain in the video games than the movie version. Despite its flaws in Springlocks, it does work and quite reliable if employees following the Fazbear Entertainment Saftey Procedures, produced by William himself. William is the only person who dies from the Spinglocks. No Fredbear biting a kid is not considered as a Springlocks failure. People think it is while after analyzing it a-bit it does have plot holes. Hence, Springlocks has Animatronic mode as their default why does crying child’s death can die by Springlocks. That’s not how Springlocks works. The only force to apply on Springlocks are when it is on the suit mode. There is no way that the crying child is dead because of Springlocks failure. What really happen is the Bite force modification that either William or Henry did on Fredbear. Maybe Springlocks Animatronic mode has strong bite force to begin with. Which means it isn’t a Springlocks fault but more like Jaw Bite force kinda fault.

So, at the end when Steve/William is impaled by the suit, it's because of the spring lock failure. Spring lock suits were a common thing in Freddy Fazbear pizzarias where it was an animatronic that doubled as a suit and employees would crank the spring locks to keep the animatronic parts away from their bodies while being worn. But the spring locks were very unstable, thus when Cupcake bit into the suit, it caused enough of a disruption for the spring locks to become loose and the animatronic parts to go into Steve/William.

I love this movie so much and it has not helped my fixation on it at all! I will say this: This movie is sort like the books in which the time line of events are similar yet very far off from the canon. For example, Michael was supposed to be William's son, a Michael Schmidt is in the game however it was supposed to be just a psuedo fake name for Michael Afton. A lot of stuff like that. Also about the spring lock failure, the cupcake might've just activated the springlocks because it bit off the suit and unstablized it. Reminder that the spring lock suits are unstable at best. William was moving around and speaking a lot longer than he should have for the springlocks canonically and that might be because the suit was in a more pristine condition than the older one and as soon as the cupcake bit it and messed up the condition that's when the locks failed. The springlock suit didn't get infected and probably couldn't because it's a suit, William is an adult who is more aware, and it's not possessed yet. William only got springlocked, no infecting required...unless you want to count the kids turning against him.
