John Bonham was a big jazz guy. He literally sounds like he is hitting the drums as hard as you possibly could in this song. He was a savage. Best ever imo. RIP Bonzo

Led Zeppelin couldn't be "pegged", they just about created their own genre under the rock genre umbrella. Music critics at the time didn't quite know what to make of them and panned a lot of their music but in the end, the genius of what these four guys produced has survived for over 50 years, and although their last album dropped just about 45 years ago, they still maintain the 2nd highest number of album sales in the rock genre. I guess they had the "last laugh", so to speak. ;) Yep, they recorded this album about 5 weeks after forming as a band, and in only 36 hours. Clearly, they were on the same wave length. Even more amazing to me is how young they were, Page being the oldest at 24, Jones was 22, and both Plant and Bonham were 20. These were four incredibly gifted guys, and Page was a flipping genius in the studio as the producer of all their albums. And keep in mind, no auto tune back then! It's good that you're listening to studio cuts before live. They loved to improvise when they performed live, rarely playing a song the same way twice. They didn't strive to replicate studio versions, but to stretch songs this way and that, flexing their creative muscle. But to be able to know just how fabulous that could be, one must know the starting point, the studio version. So glad that you're going to continue to explore LZ's music by going through their albums, and hopefully in order. That will give you a better understanding of how they progressed as musicians and as a band throughout their 12 years together. Thanks for another very enjoyable reaction. I'm definitely looking forward to more!

To me, Dazed and Confused is like a litmus test - these guys take you on a journey and your part is to pack your sh!t, take a seat, strap in and let these master musicians take you along with them. There’s little patience/attention nowadays, it seems, to allow an artist the freedom and time to do this. The conclusion, if you love Dazed and Confused, are blown away by the sheer artistry and the emotions they tap into, distort and turn on their heads, then you are primed for the full Led Zeppelin journey! Loving your reactions and can’t wait to continue with you ❤

Led Zeppelin is total musical synergy. The whole is greater than the parts and in Led Zeppelin’s case, you have four extremely talented parts. Page is a music genius of production. He had been doing this song with The Yardbirds but these four geniuses took it to a new level.

You mentioned this type of music not being produced and that these guys were only together a few months before this first album. What you don't recognize yet, is the music scene where these guys were from about 1965-1969. It absolutely was a golden age of experimental, blues, and early rock. Jimmy and JPJ were accomplished studio musicians on the scene and both had composing/producing experience. They handpicked Robert and Bonzo to fit the style and emphasis they wanted. I think currently, there is no community where such groups of people can thrive musically and are required to perform live to prove it. It's just a completely different creative platform now.

Greetings from Canada. It's not exactly that they met and a month later produced this tune... Jimmy had been working on a version of this with his prior band, The Yardbirds. In fact Zep's original name was The New Yardbirds. He just needed Robert, Jonesy and Bonzo to fill it out so exquisitely. You are doing a great job, btw. Peace, love and bellbottoms.

My apologies if I restate some of the things others have mentioned, as I'm coming to this reaction a little late. This song is a re-working of the original song by American singer/songwriter Jake Holmes. Jimmy had been in a band called The Yardbirds (whom you should also eventually check out) and The Yardbirds had a version but after they broke up, Jimmy re-worked the song again for use in his new band - temporarily called the "New Yardbirds" until switched to Led Zeppelin. When the guitar and vocals mimic each other, it's called "call and response" and is a technique often used in blues-styles of music, and if you pay attention, the bass and drums go back and forth during the breakdown in their own version of a call and response. Jimmy used a violin bow on his guitar during the breakdown; a technique suggested to him while he was still a session musician, by David McCallum Sr., a violinist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (and father to actor David McCallum, look him up but you may or may not be familiar with his work). Jimmy wasn't the first to use a bow on the guitar, however it's become synonymous with his name. During concert improvisation, he would get some very unique, avant-garde stylings with it. They had a lot of influences from folk, jazz, classical, Motown, funk, country, bluegrass, Asian, plus much more. Their music is for moods/emotions and touches individuals on many different levels - it all depends on the listener and you'll find the same song will hit in a different way depending on the mood you're in. Keep enjoying the journey.

I KNOW all genres. I was at that ripe age for ALL genres..a tennager in the 1980's which was the beginnings of rap. Rap comes from rock n roll believe this or not. My household as a child was all of rock n roll. As a teen in the 80's I had a younger brother that gravitated to rap. Because of him I got into Snoop Dog big time & everything that was hip at the time..absolutely loved! I can say 100% that the rock n roll genre will always be here to stay in my heart deeply. Rap is a genre that can go.I will not miss. II am well rounded in rap. I can say that rock n roll is dear in my heart.

Led Zeppelin are considered to be Progressive Rock. Other bands that I would put in that category that you should also check out (if you haven't already) are Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd and Rush. I think one could categorize early Genesis and Peter Gabriel as Progressive Rock as well. I do not know any of the rock bands you named in this video. I'll have to listen to the names you said again and check them out. My new hobby is watching people react to Led Zeppelin and other bands they haven't heard before. It's really fun to watch and I get an education reading everyone's comments.

It's damn hard to pick a favorite Zep album or song, but this one really takes me back. My older brother brought this album home from the record store just a few days after it was first available. I think I played it more than he did. This album and Black Sabbath's debut release just rocked my world! And this song really grabbed me right from the start. It reminds me of a night in the 80s when some of my coworkers and I got together at a local bar after a long shift. We had been in this very familiar place for about an hour when some "kids" came in and started playing Loverboy on the jukebox. After the third song, I answered their selection with the whole side one of this album. I even got the bartender to happily crank the volume up. I think the kids realized this was not the bar for them and they left shortly after. "Give me Led till I'm dead!"

@tomitoreacts1017 This album was recorded 3 weeks after they all met each other in a cold, damp, studio. It only took 30 recording hours to complete the album. Jimmy Page produced every album they put out. John Paul Jones (real name John Baldwin) was the musical arranger. Jimmy paid for this album to be recorded and produced. Then he and their manager Peter Grant tried to sell it to a record company in the UK. Nobody would take the risk. So they went to Atlantic Records and met with President Ahmet Ertegun. They made an unheard of deal. Grant secured a $143,000 advance contract ($1,203,000 today) from Atlantic Records in November 1968-at the time, the biggest deal of its kind for a new band. Atlantic was a label with a catalogue of mainly blues, soul, and jazz artists, but in the late 1960s, it began to take an interest in British progressive rock acts. The band had total control of what music went on the albums, what the cover art would be, if they would produce singles (that would be no), when the albums would come out, when and where they would tour. Everything. Basically, Atlantic Records just put out the albums.
