If my neighbor hung up a straight pride flag, I'd go over and with a completely serious face, congratulate them on coming out as straight, especially since the history of oppression of straight people was so long and violent. Then I would ask them how old they were when they figured out they were straight, and if they'd ever dated same-sex people before they realized they were straight. I might even ask if they really thought that hanging the flag where everyone could see it was appropriate, considering there are children in the neighborhood who could see it and might ask some really uncomfortable questions because of their flag. Then I would head home and hoist up bi and lgbt+ flags where they could see them.

There's a running 'gag' of people who don't respect pronouns thinking we mean first-person pronouns. I had a guy on twitter switch from calling me "you" to "they" while talking to me as if it made some kind of point, other than them being bloody thick.
@John_Weiss4 ай бұрын
14:18 The reason Pride exists and is called "pride" is because we gays were told constantly that we should be ashamed for merely existing. That our very existence is "disgusting". So after Stonewall, when we rose up and finally fought back, we said No to being told we should be ashamed of being in love, ashamed just because we existed, No to being made to feel shame by others. We were going to be proud to be gay [in analogy to the "Black is Beautiful" campaign of the 1970s]. And it wasn't even called "Pride" originally, but was the "Gay Liberation March". Then it became a Gay Rights March. Then it became a Pride _March._ Not a parade: we took to the streets, without official sanction or even permission of the authorities. Even in the 1990s, Pride Marches were still a protest-march. And that's your history lesson from me, Internet Uncle-Gay🏳🌈. Oh - and the reason why Pride turned into an entire month: (1) Corporations thinking they could make money that way; and (2) Scheduling Conflict. You see, originally, the "Gay Liberation" March was on the weekend closest to the anniversary of Stonewall. Most big US cities with a "gayborhood" would hold Pride Marches then. Philadelphia, however, held theirs on a different weekend. Philly is within a half-day's drive of both Washington DC and NYC, so not wanting their Pride March to be empty because everyone was going to those 2 cities, they just held theirs on a different weekend in June. And as smaller cities and towns started having their own Pride Parades during the 00s and 10s, the places close to a major city would schedule their Pride on a different weekend in June than the nearby major city's Pride. Hudson, NY, where many people who work in NYC have a weekend home, holds its Pride the first weekend in June. So, in the 00s, it was less "June is Pride Month" and more "Every weekend in June, there's a Pride event". Which ate up all of the weekends for PFLAG, welcoming/reconciled churches and synagogues, and LGBT+ choirs, because they ended up invited to march in pretty much every Pride Parade in driving distance. The corporations, as we all know, took notice last decade and started advertising as if all of June were one month-long Pride Party. But they sure showed their true [lack of] colors in recent years by abandoning us queers as fast as they could, now didn't they?

Yup, I hated my father, avoided him as soon as I was not living at home anymore and was not sad when he suddenly passed away a few years ago. Not the biggest fan of my mom either, but it's more indifference than hate. She is a stranger I happen to know all my life. As long as the child has loving parents, it doesn't matter in the slightest if they have both mom and dad, two moms, two dads, enby parent(s), a single parent, three parents (like bio parents + step parent as example). The most important thing is, that the child experiences love, support and guidance.

Tbh dads often do a lot of great things. Not saying a dad being around is necessary but remember that neither is a mom. Personally my mom was abusive and my dad's always taken care of me while also providing for the household and doing all the chores when I was little. I feel like everyone needs a role model who's strong and can teach independence, and one who's loving and nurturing. In traditional heteronormativity, that's the dad and mom in that order, but it doesn't have to be. The genders can be flipped, or both be male, both be female, there could be a non-binary person or two, it doesn't even have to be the parents tbh could be uncles or aunts or grandparents or a close family friend, one person could even theoretically fill all the roles if they're just that awesome! What's important is that a child grows up feeling loved but gets taught how to function independently as they get older
@rosieg69894 ай бұрын
Maybe, but dads can also be amazing. My take is a kid just needs parent/parents that love them unconditionally, keep them happy and healthy, teach them what they need to know, and supports them as they grow.

It's SO funny that sweaty gamers are mad about the fallout tv show being "too woke" when the games are all social commentary on capitalism, racism, classism, sexism, etc. It has a 1950s flavor specifically and intentionally so it can comment on those topics through the lens of an era which is notorious for those things. Anti-Chinese sentiment is very strong in the games in particular, and the whole point is that the red scare kept everyone from realizing the US government was to blame for the world ending because they could all just blame "the reds." The games are pretty woke, these people just lack media literacy and didn't notice because they could make their protagonists a Generic White Action Dude.

my husband and I don't use the same shampoo because he thrives on cheap "every day" shampoo with a lemony scent, while my curly hair needs a million different types of butter to not explode as soon as it's dry. Meanwhile his moisturizer is extra hydrating because he has dryer skin on average, while I get by on the cheap whatever I could find. We do use the same body wash/shower gel and toothpaste tho. If we didn't have different hair and skin types we'd probably use the same shampoo and moisturizer too. - I wouldn't call ourselves a cishet couple because I don't identify as cis or hetero (Bisexuals rise up!), but it's how people typically perceive us.

It's insane to me how many lesbian couples with a bay are subjected to the "child needs a dad" nonsense. Statistically speaking, women in straight relationships are those who more often take care of their children anyway. Not to mention, men are those who leave pregnant woman very easily, while making fun of the single moms; aka the parent who stuck around. Their logic is all sorts of wrong. I'm not saying there aren't fathers who love their kids and give them equal amount of attention, affection and time as their mothers, but generally speaking, many men just don't do much for their children.

EDIT: formatting, added TL;DR, and fixed some weird autocorrect mistakes that I didn't catch before TL;DR You do you and try not to shame people of they want to keep their Harry Potter tattoos or continue to love the franchise. I know there's a whole discourse about whether "death of the author" can or should apply to JK Rowling. Here's my personal opinion, though. I have found joy in the Wizarding World. Similar fans of the series have created a community which may be based around that world, but it's also separate and beyond the original content and I find joy being a part of that community. When I celebrate the Wizarding World, I celebrate this community, not the author. I don't currently have a Harry Potter tattoo (and I don't currently plan to have one), but my wife does. Since I am trans and since she is also LGBT+, she is well aware of the impact of the author's words and the power of her platform. We as a couple have agreed to not spend a cent on any officially licensed Wizarding World merchandise. Tattoos are not licensed. And more than that, they are an expression of something you love. It is possible to love something without loving where it came from. And as long as your love for that thing does not actively contribute to suffering, then there shouldn't be a problem with that love alone. Again, this is why we don't support the Wizarding World brand but we might still buy from unlicensed sources. (Bit of a loose comparison, but it's the same thing with like big market stores that have unethical labor practices or certain fast food places that fund certain anti-LGBT groups. We find other ways to get the merchandise or food that we want). All in all, of you have a Harry Potter tattoo and you want to keep it, that's fine. If you feel better covering it up, that's fine too. Basically what I'm saying is let people be and don't shame them if they still want to express their love for a franchise which has some shit attached to its creation/creator. As long as they aren't actively supporting said shitty creation/creator, it shouldn't be a problem. Anywho, uh... end of rant, I guess :p

There's good reason to not share shampoo and conditioner. People have different types of hair with different needs. Someone with dry hair needs moisturizing products which would not be useful for someone with oily hair. And interracial couples need to jeep this in mind too. I only just started learning about hair types of peiple with african descent, and that goes into their hairstyles too. Honestly it's an interesting topic, and useful to learn about the issues that people deal with that are so common place that it's never even considered. Even if it's knowledge that I'll never personally use. Though i guess my fascination could also come from ADHD hyper fixation. And as he requested: 🏳️🌈

Anyway it was about a trans girl named Gia, and she couldn’t play on the basketball team and ended up running away and dying. So Ben came to fix what once went wrong. It was a good episode. There was a scene where Ian ( non-binary character played by Mason Alexander Park who is non-binary) is talking to Addison (the hologram) about their struggles and a dark time and it is great representation. I miss quantum leap

My now husband and I used "partner" for years, especially the few years between moving in together and getting married. The transition to using "husband" and "wife" was slow, it felt kinda funny and overly formal at first, now we kinda got used to it. Sometimes I still say partner, especially in my own language, because for me it has a closer meaning to being each other's partners in life than the "legal" title of being married.

Bethesda is amazing for diversity. When people started foaming about LGBTQ+ representation in their games, they added more. Elder Scrolls Online has same-sex couples, at least one trans woman NPC, and a variety of non-binary NPCs. At one point during a quest, you go past a couple of Khajiit men (catfolk, for those who aren't aware) are talking about whether or not the city is a safe place for their cubs, what with all the dragons about. Much love for Bethesda!

So when I was in school, like 2-3rd grade because that’s when they were teaching me grammar and writing, they said they/ them was singular and plural because it was for people you didn’t know if they were a boy or girl and multiple people. I was completely unaware of lgtbq+ anything while learning my grammar as a little tiny child learning pronouns and stuff it was basic grammar. I do remember lots of my ever so useful lessons they taught me in grade school like about how Komodo dragons exist

16:32 - I think they said "matching nails", but for some reason the auto captions picked up "matching dates" instead and the poster didn't realise. 17:19 - I think for straight couples, they usually use what's marketed towards their gender. For the few that aren't gendered such as toothpaste, I don't really know beside that they could just have different needs, but that's not exclusively a straight couple thing.

If I ever saw someone hang that straight pride flag I'd just say "oh I haven't seen that version of the trans flag before, that's a cool variation though". Oh! The partner thing, I actually like it, like especially for long running non-marriage relationships, it normalises the word and it also just... sounds a lot more "grown up" than saying "boyfriend and girlfriend" or whatever? I guess there's also "significant other" but I've never really been sure what that means.

10:22 Gamer in your audience here! The answer is sorta? Skipping past a bunch, the first 2 Fallouts were developed by Interplay, which went bankrupt and sold to Bethesda. Some of the original developers from Interplay would go on to make Obsidian among other studios, which made Fallout New Vegas with Bethesda as the publisher. While Bethesda took on the IP, it's not like they ever stopped having representation in their games or tough/taboo subjects though (ie Morrowind had slavery, substance use and smuggling, and more).

I found saftey in Harry Potter. I'm so sad JK is transphobic since I'm non-binary and my partner is trans. I still find saftey in the fanfics but no longer the books. Also excited for your tour!

I'm from Spain, I clearly remember 19 years ago, in my English class, being told to use "they" when referring to an individual whose gender was not known, so using they as a singular pronoun is not incorrect nor something new, I don't know what that news anchor was about.

For Harry Potter fans may I reccomend the How To Train Your Dragon books? Remarkably similar, except somewhat better and (As far as I'm aware) the author is not a transphobe. The message of the books is also not confused. When they make the point slavery is bad, they don't shy away from stuff. These books can get quite dark later on in the series. It really does grow up with Hiccup and the reader.

Band kid here! In band, we were allowed to draw on the whiteboard, and a lot of the queer kids drew their respective flags. And then the straight people started to draw their flag, the black and white one specifically. Of course, this flag can see has problematic, so our director told the kids not to draw it. Then the straight kids told her to ban the LGBTQ+ flags, which she did to appease them, otherwise they weren’t listening to her. Short time later, drawing on the whiteboard was banned.

Best part is, when I was drawing National flags in retaliation, the straight kids yelled at me for that too.

🌈❤ I have a wonderful flag story. My sister, an ally like me, hangs a pride flag on her house every pride month. Her ex husband told her she shouldn't do that because all of her neighbors would think she's a lesbian. She said to him, I don't care, they probably already think that because I'm a woman who lives alone with short hair and dogs 😄

Good on the journalist for staying so calm during the interview. Just like everyone else they deserve to have their preferences respected. I get the feeling that the reason people like that news lady want to say that they/them can't be used for a singluar person is just because of their bigotry towards anyone who isn't cis & straight particularly towards non-binary &/or trans individuals especially in times when they eventually slip up & use the correct pronouns but try to backtrack. Thus showing how easy it is to use them. Also, the absolute disrespect of this news lady tell them that she's going to refer to them as she/her because they a feminine presenting person. That on top of basically saying that her pronouns should be respected because she's a cis & straight woman while telling her guest that their pronouns aren't allowed or shouldn't be respected when she says "you don't get to require me to use incorrect grammar" is absolutely not okay. If you know someone's pronouns then use them & if not then use they/them until they tell you. It's not that hard. Slight side note but there is actually a petition going around to get the new lady to resign & I really hope it gets the signatures it need to get her off the air

This is 'exactly' why I get other people's input on my tattoos before I get them. I was close to getting a HP tattoo, and that's when a friend told me how 'wildly' transphobic and nasty Rowling is. I don't use social media generally, so I had no idea. Thank goodness they told me!! Didn't get the tattoo and now avoid all HP products. As much as I love the franchise, cos I grew up with it, her nastiness has left such a bad taste in my mouth, especially as a memeber of the LGBTQIA community. Now I see HP and it just makes me so sad

About the "using the same products" in a heterosexual relationship: my husband and I share some of our products (toothpaste, shower gel, sun cream etc) but not all. But that's probably because we simply prefer different types of shampoo and moisturiser.
