This was a big hit in the late 80s in the US. Loved to crank it up when it came on our top 40 pop station. Always loved it. Great summer for me.

As a young teen, Martika was on an American series called Kids Incorporated. I'm not sure if it aired in the UK. Many successful singers and actors came out of that show. Her popstar career was brief. She released 2 albums, the first in 1988, the final in 1991. She had a handful of Top Ten singles and a couple #1s before disappearing from the public eye for well over a decade. In the early '00s she and her husband formed the group Oppera; releasing a pair of albums in 2004 and 2005. Some notable songs; "Love...Thy Will Be Done" (a song she wrote in collaboration with Prince), "I Feel The Earth Move" (her cover of the Carole King classic), "More Than You Know", "Cross My Heart" (Martika's version wasn't a single but the song was a hit in the UK for a group called Eighth Wonder), "Water", "Coloured Kisses", "Martika's Kitchen". In the early 2000's several unreleased Martika songs and demos were making the rounds on file sharing applications. One that stands out for me was a ballad called "Goodbye". You can find still find it on KZbin. Martika's last commercially released single was 2012's "Flow With The Go. Martika still performs around the world; mostly at those rewind festivals with other artists from back in the day.

She's Cuban- American. She started in a musical TV show called Kids incorporated along Fergie back in the 80s. She showed there she was a great singer performer do it was only natural she became a star. She wrote this song and was her first single and hit. She had a couple of more minor hits and albums but didn't survive the 90s musical revolution. She still performs tho.
