why does only seeing the second half of titanic seem to be like... a fairly common experience
@AlexaFaie3 жыл бұрын
I've only seen it in black & white shaky footage with people's heads in the way and grainy subtitles because my friend when I was little thought it was funny to buy it from a market stall in Pakistan whilst it was still only in the cinemas... (her Dad worked for our Foreign Office back then & so she spent some time over there terrorising multiple nannies she & her brothers were forced to have, her stories were always fantastic, the movie was purchased one time she'd ran off from the current nanny) It was very grainy, very boring & I couldn't understand why people raved about it for years after because at the time I really thought it was the actual movie not a recording taken in a cinema. ROFL I've never fully seen it (we stopped part way through) & now I don't want to as I feel it would spoil the "masterpiece" I saw for me.

Actually. Marie Antoinette did not lose her head so quickly. The French Revolution was not a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am kind of thing. For some time, the former royal family just dealt with a significant loss of power and funds (not total, though). Then after their attempted escape, they were imprisoned. People were still reluctant to execute them (they couldn't fathom making such a daring move, plus for some time they thought the new government would be more of democratic monarchy of sorts). It wasn't until Antoine Saint-Just proposed in his speech to the Convention that the French must either execute the king, for being a king is downright immoral, or the Revolution might as well be considered a total, immediate failure. And even then, people waited some more before executing Marie Antoinette, because they felt reluctant to execute a woman (this fear didn't last long tho, women died on both sides of the barricade).

Karolina, the bathroom meme is basically an English language joke. From the time you're a kid in school and you ask permission to use the bathroom, everybody's instinct is to say "can I go to the bathroom", but the grammatically proper thing to say is "may I go to the bathroom". Teachers just like to take that opportunity to give a grammar lesson. They like to ask the annoying question "I don't know, can you?" It's just a very tired joke and now it's become a meme. So there you go, that's why the teacher and bathroom memes exist.

As a teacher, we had a tablet by the door so students could check out to leave the class and not disrupt the lesson. They had to check back in when they got back into the room. It could be for any reason, to get water, use the bathroom, etc. It was designed to track how long students were out of the room each semester. It was a godsend during student teacher conferences when parents would ask me why their kids were failing and I could show them a report of how long they weren’t in class.

I mean as person with the last name _______ , it kinda has the same energy. Old Microsoft word used to use the squiggly red underline so it was even more insulting, then they changed it to a just a plain, flat, red underline and I felt slighted, like I wasn't good enough anymore. 😂
I think having the bottle actually be empty just makes that one better

For the teacher vs bathroom question: We have very little time to teach the kids a whole lesson of information + skills and them going to the bathroom means they come back while the class is (usually about 5-10 minutes) further on and can spend the rest of the lesson unable to do anything (especially if they leave during a crucial part of the lesson). So we also have to juggle a kid who is behind and 20+ others who need to keep going. forefrontacross about the school without supervision class - unless they have a medical reason to go to the toilet whenever they feel like it.

@Karolina Zebrowska >>> I *PRESUME* that teacher _"IDK, can you?"_ thing is meant to highlight the difference between asking _"CAN I go to the bathroom?"_ versus asking _"MAY I go to the bathroom?"_

12:20 English teacher here: It's a joke because 'can' describes the ability to do something whereas 'may' the permission. So essentially, a student asking if they can go to the bathroom is using a false verb and therefore gets ridiculed by the teacher with this "Can you?!" pun.
