AVPM (A Very Potter Musical) and TTO (Trail to Oregon) are Starkid musicals. TTO is available for licensing and has been performed by other groups before, but AVPM isn't licensable, so even if the student in the story did get to do one of the shows they suggested, it wouldn't be AVPM (which makes the fact that, of all the shows, that's the one they found the script for and wanted to do, even worse/literally illegal)
@blueblossom3384

Based on the story i don’t think they were actually liscensing correctly. They said they found the script online. And they mentioned dear Evan Hansen which is also not available for licensing. Is she was more clear about where they live then she could get her theater department in some trouble…

I saw this notification pop up, and I asked myself “what is the stage door?” because I forgot the name of your rebrand! then I realized it was Sam and Ryan, and instantly and happily clicked! it’ll be hard to adjust, but love the rebrand!!

For the second story, I am SO angry for Jay. The writer was definitely the asshole…that was very shady 🌴

Taking that the writers in this thing usually go easy on themselves, can't stop think it was probably worse for Jay. Feels so cruel

I was at a comedy improv show from the group “Baby Wants candy” and they asked for the classic improv things (relationship and a place) I raised my hand and they called on em so I said: Mother and Son at Disneyland. They were doing the scene and it was funny do I was laughing (obviously). When some lady behind me told me to “cool it on the giggling” and said “My idea wasn’t that funny”. My laughing had nothing to do with the fact it was my prompt, solely to do with the fact that these professionals were doing their job very well. I brushed off the ladies comment and continues to enjoy the show. Some buts were so funny I tilted my head slightly back as I laughed. This lady then shoved my head forward and told me to “Learn proper theater etiquette” and to “control myself”. I don’t understand what I did wrong.

Sounds like you did nothing wrong. It's an improv show which thrives on audience interaction. I've done improv and you are supposed to have fun and are allowed to laugh. From a performer's stand point it is good getting that feedback that what you are doing is funny. She just sounds like a grumpy person. The only thing I could see was maybe you encroached on her personal space by leaning your head back when you laughed but that doesn't give her the right to push you. She just sounded like a not very nice person. I've been to plenty of shows and it depends on the context. If you were being loud during a Broadway show during a dramatic moment then I could see someone being upset. But not at an improv show which is usually a place where everyone is vibing. She sounds like she was having a bad day and you were in her crossfire. Sorry that happened to you

She was out of line; making people laugh is one of the points of a show like that. BWC is always a great show. It never disappoints. 😊

Love your response to the 4th story. You're right to get the ick about it, and expressed your concerns very well. From my perspective, the person who purchased the tickets initially should have assumed that they were covering the cost, unless it had been discussed in advance that their friend would reimburse them. A better way to have proceeded might have been to say something like, "The tickets were $x each, if you wanted to make a contribution towards the cost of yours." There should be no expectation that the friend actually would make any contribution, let alone the full price, but if they wanted to they would know the fair value of the ticket they were being offered.

I LOVE when you do theater AITA videos! I do actually have one of my own, and it's got all the high school drama so... 😅 AITA for not defending one of my friends (we'll call him Elijah) to my other friends when they were talking bad about him behind his back? I met Elijah doing theater during both of our freshman year. We connected pretty quickly and over time I started wishing we were more. But at the cast party of the spring musical that year, he kissed one of the junior girls and they had started dating. I used that summer to heal and eventually learned to be happy for him. Then school rolled around again, and one time he asked me "What do you do when you want to tell someone something but you're really scared to? But it's really important so you need to tell them, you just don't know how?" I gave him some advice and later found out that that was him asking me how to break up with his girlfriend. So he ended up breaking up with her, I wasn't there, but he apparently did it out loud in front of all of our drama friends and seemed really unbothered by it. And I can admit, that was really shitty of him, and that must've been humiliating for her. I was upset at him at first, as I also grew close with this girl through theater, but he's still one of my best friends so I soon forgave him. But none of the other kids have forgiven him, even now, and they love talking about how much they hate him. I always want to say something, but they're my friends too and I hate confrontation. Now I'm the vice president of the drama club, and everyone can recognize that Elijah does put a lot of work into the program. I want to make him my co-president senior year, but I don't think the current presidents are gonna want to leave it to him, even partially. Also I think he likes me now. As of when I'm writing this, I'm supposed to go out with him tomorrow, so I guess we'll see 🫠

From an overly grown up theatre kid- it’s never cool to talk about your friends behind their backs and if the people you’re around do it, you can be pretty certain they’d likely also do it to you. That being said, the inciting breakup is no one else’s business except “Elijah” and his ex. Everyone else can comfort and support but otherwise, seriously just stay out of it. You are all still growing and learning and every single one of you are going to do dumb things that are not the appropriate way to handle situations. That’s what this time of your life is for. As long as no one is being physically or emotionally abused, at which point an adult should be informed, try to enjoy the time you have with each other because it will go much faster than you think.

I think you'd be the AH if you joined in on the sh!t talking behind his back. The only thing I can think to do would be to ask that they don't talk like that in front of you since he's your friend and it puts you in an awkward situation. If going out him went well and you're dating now, they'll probably stop talking about him in front of you. But like amelia said, they'll most likely talk about you when you're not there. I do worry about you a little. I may be wrong but you seem to still like him (at least at the time you wrote this) and I just want you to be cautious considering how he ended things with his ex. You said you don't like conflict so I wouldn't want him to take advantage of that and mistreat you.

I feel like people have especially built a "me me me" mentality where they have this sense of entitlement of "well I payed for the tickets! I can do what I want!" , this is apparent in concerts (such as screaming to be 'funny' or the whole Mistki thing) but musicals as well, completely disregarding the fact OTHERS payed too. It's not "I payed for it, I can do what I want" if it actively hinders the experience of others who payed.

1st story: Agree. Do not sing along. Unless it's the end of the show and the performers are like sing with us and dance...they kind of did that at the end of Mamma Mia when I saw it, then that's ok. But people paid to hear the performers and to be immersed in the story and the show. Not to hear Barbara 3 seats down singing along. It's not their performance and they shouldn't be interrupting. Even if you are vibing and enjoying the music. Enjoy it but don't distract. If anything, they should have found an usher and had them confront her during intermission. Sometimes you need someone of "authority" to get them to actually listen. 2nd story: Absolutely in the wrong. Instead of having an adult conversation, you went behind her back and excluded her. She didn't audition because you hurt her feelings. The whole situation hurt her so why audition for someone that hates you and wouldn't give you a part anyway. She told you she didn't like to be excluded. Instead of telling her you didn't want to be friends or work together you were shady and left her out. You don't have to like everyone or be friends, but you can be professional. I do feel for Madison because it sounds like she was in the middle of it all but she should have stuck up for Jay when she was clearly excluded and had them all have a conversation. 3rd story: The theatre kid sister could have rehearsed at a different time. Still be respectful of the other people you are sharing a space with. Also there might have been many reason she failed the audition and not necessarily lack of practice time. I don't think it is fair to put the blame on the sister because you didn't get the part and then you quit because of it. I don't know how the poster confronter her sister. If she was like SHUT UP! I could imagine the sister singing at that time out of spite. If it was very respectful then the sister has no one to blame but themselves. You need to be respectful of other people especially those that don't share the same interests. In my experience, you need to have a thick skin for acting or musical theatre, anything with performance because you have to audition and you will hear a lot more no than yes and some are just not prepared to handle that. You have to have a determination to keep going. 4th story: It sounded like the poster was using the tickets as something to hang over her. Like oh it's free if you go out with me. If not then you pay. Even if you didn't mean it like that you shouldn't have brought up the idea of them being a gift as long as she went out with you. You either want to be friends with someone and value and respect them even if they don't want to be in a relationship with you. Or they only have value to you if they go out with you. If it is only the latter that matters to you then you shouldn't spend time with them because you are not ok with just being friends with them. You can't force someone to have feelings for you like that and then get pissed off when they don't reciprocate those feelings. What you did sounded very manipulative. It's the same person that you were willing to gift those tickets to and now that it is not a date you aren't willing to have it be a gift. It sounds like you are not ok with just being friends and you should not hang out with each other anymore. But I'm super glad the poster saw the error in their thinking apologized and are on good terms with the other person which is the whole point of the reddit. To get feedback that will hopefully help you make a better decision moving forward. Always love your videos! I'm glad you are traveling and doing well. And Ryan is working on a movie! which is super cool. I used to usher and I worked in a box office. I had someone call me a nazi during covid restrictions. We either required a negative test or your vaccination card. She said "you can't do this to people. Forcing people to follow these rules is ridiculous! You guys are nazis. I didn't realize we were in Germany." She stomped away. I'm like yeesh

The friend who didn't want to be a romantic partner should have offered to pay for her own ticket. Asking someone for a date typically implies that the asker will pay. Suggesting to a friend that they go to a play or a concert implies that each will pay their own way. The honorable thing for the young woman to respond to the date request would have been to say, I don't have those feelings for you, let's just go to the musical as friends and I'll write you a check for my ticket.
@starfruit2513
@starfruit2513 8 ай бұрын
I agree that they should both pay for their own ticket, but it sounds like he got really expensive tickets without running the cost by her first. She asked how much they were, as if she intended to pay him back. His response was evidently a bit confusing to her, because she left it thinking the tickets were a gift. The next day, he springs the sum of money on her.

“You freaking hate this girl” yeah who doesn’t have someone they hate. When I was in middle school my friend was being super rude and I was so done w her so I said “nobody likes you. And your like in love w [friend name] *and* [friend name]” (which I wasn’t lying a lot of us weren’t her biggest fan and she was terrible to the second friend). And she told the school counselor(we were on a school trip) what I did, neglecting to add what she did and the teacher said “if this happens again I don’t want you to be friends anymore.” Going to a counselor without talking to the person first is wrong.
