3:10 - 5:23, my stomach was in knots from laughing....... Fernando has been unreal this year, his best performances were so fabulous, his age is just a number at that point. Shame for Daniel, but he did pick up at the end, got closer to Lando, that Monza win was so satisfying, fingers crossed for 2022. But Carlos Sainz, Driver of the f***ing Year! Running through his season, his results and his performances, saying them to my friend, I was breathless afterwards. He has done an INCREDIBLE job, especially when you look at who his teammate is. If you have someone else who you think is DOTY, I will argue with you till the middle of next week....

Yes even though I think he had luck on his side whenever leclerc had issues ( Monaco / Hungary/ Sochi) he maximized it with podium. But still credit to him . I think this will only push leclerc further . It is great to have a teammate like Carlos who pushes you and you can’t afford to not bring your a game

It was interesting to return to your comment about the second Red Bull seat. Before the season I felt that one advantage for Perez would be that if a driver with his reputation struggles, the team would have to admit there was a problem. Sure enough, it turned out that he had made the exact same complaints about the car that Gasly and Albon had, but in his case Red Bull took it seriously and made changes. I also feel that Perez and Bottas show the real pace of their respective cars: everything Hamilton and Verstappen do above that is just them being utter racing gods on a different level.

I do have to agree - Verstappen and Hamilton are able to pull more out of their car than most drivers. With that in mind, Alonso have always been able to outperform his car, which would indicate Ocon has been severely underrated seeing what he's been able to do up against Alonso... What a time to be an F1 fan, with all these experienced driver and all the young talent on the grid, and the possibility of a total shakeup for next year.

I have to disagree with the second point. I feel like Max and Lewis are so good in both qualifying and the race, their performances are closer to the true limit of the machinery under them. Valtteri and Checo are brilliant, but both aren’t consistent enough to bring out the full potential of their cars each time. Besides, Checo lacks plenty of one lap pace and Valtteri sometimes struggle in the races.

Great job to verstappen. He was easily the better driver across the year. I know you English lads feel robbed, and he did get very lucky in the finale. But he got the short end of that stick so many times this year. Even getting punted off twice by a Mercedes, he is a well deserved champion.

The biggest takeaway from this is just how disappointing Daniel's season really was. Of course he did deliver McLaren's only win this season, and in style with the 1-2 + FL, but besides that, it was basically 50/50 on whether he'd even score points. Hoping for better things from Daniel and McLaren in 2022. Also hoping for Lando's first win - It's definitely overdue after his Sochi nightmare.

By the time Daniel became comfortable with the McLaren the performance of the car dropped off as the Ferrari and even Alpine seemed faster. In the second half Daniel scored more points than Lando, and Lando also struggled in the second half. If the McLaren kept its performance up for the rest of the year I bet Daniel would have done a much better job (possibly a podium in Mexico if it weren’t for that crash).

@@bencns Nah Lando never really struggled in the second half. His second half was actually pretty decent, but just plagued with massive bad luck. The only bad race was Brazil, and was often faster than Daniel in most races still imo. Take Saudi Arabia for example.

"to be fair" if it wasn't for Bahrain's inconsistent race direction if it wasn't for Bottas' incident in Imola (and remember, no penalty to lewis for rejoining the track in a dangerous way) if it wasn't for Silverstone's ridiculous penalty to Lewis if we really want to look at every single turning point in the championship, then Max probably is the one that lost more points for either bad race direction or other's luck. If Bahrain was at the end of the season his overtake wouldn't have been considered illegal (not saying either decision was fine, simply it's a fact). In Silverstone again I'm fine with not penalizing Lewis, race incident since it was the initial laps? Fine, but if you want to penalize him, then 10 sec penalty is BS, some drivers in the past were handed 10 sec STOP & GO for way less. Not saying Lewis should have been penalized, but since he was penalized, then the penalty should have an effect both in the race as well as in the championship. "to be fair" things in the end were pretty balanced throughout the whole season, max got lucky in the end, but lewis got lucky during mid-season. It's racing, you know that a SC may come out at any point. Then either way, it was not a "creative" usage of SC, but something that's permitted by the ruling, since it's stated that the race direction has overriding authority over different rules, including the usage of SC. Just because up to this point it never happened that the SC had to be used this way, doesn't mean it's not fine.

In my opinion hamilton lost the championship because of his error in azerbaijan It was his own mistake, not bad luck or bad circumstances. If he had won that GP we wouldn't talk about the chaos in the last race. We can talk about luck an all that stuff but in the end it comes down to who makes the least mistakes and in this hamilton did one and verstappen none and that decided the championship.

Nope, if you know how to interpret english properly, race director can override the clerk's decisions for safety car. Not overriding the rules. Do you actually want a 10s penalty for a racing incident?, if max backed out of it, it would have looked like one of those first turn overtakes where max pretended lewis didnt exist and lewis had to back out.

Ocon defo wasn't one of the worst drivers on the grid? What are you on about? He was really close to Perez in the Force India and beating him over one lap. Then he had a year out cause of daddy's cash. When he came back he had to adjust to a new car and team and was up against one of the best drivers on the grid. He kept lowering the gap to Ricciardo over the season and was basically matching him by the end of it. This season he's been on par with a two time world champion and a driver known for destroying his teammates. Ocon deserves more respect for his performances this season.

I was just looking at your season predictions last night and commented on how close you actually were. Six out of ten in the driver's championship standings is pretty good actually. I think the friction battle should have gone to Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher instead of the Ferarri boys as they constantly seemed to get in each other's way on and off the track. Other than that, I'd say you did an awesome job. =)

Rivalry goes to Haas. Competitive or not, the beef was real between them. Daniel was not a flop at all this year. From the practice sessions, McLaren most weeks looked like the 4th or 5th best car. Lando was just exceptionally good this year.

@@aguy1272 When evaluating week by week though, not looking at only the pre-season expectations. He actually outperformed the car week-to-week. He was still one of the top 10 drivers of the year statistically on that level. Probably 10th at best, but he still outperformed most. Hamilton, Verstappen at the top. Lando, Sainz, Leclerc, Gasly in the next 4. Bottas and Perez next. Alonso and then Ricciardo. Arguments for Russell and Ocon can statistically factually be proven redundant since they were SUPER inconsistent and 2 good results don't make a good season. Since Ricciardo also had a win and a LOT of P4-P6 finishes. On some of those weeks when Mclaren did NOT have a top 3 car.

Seeing D-Ric in the Top 4 in the preseason predictions and now you could have a strong argument for him to be in the bottom half of the grid (Merc, RB, Fer pairs + Lando are clearly ahead of him and you could hear arguments for both Alpines, Gasly, Seb and Boass) kinda hurts a bit.

i think you actually did quite solid this year, definitely ready for what the teams had to offer. just not the drivers. you got pretty much all of the positioning and expectations correct bar the older drivers and Ricciardo. i just dont think anyone was really ready for Perez to show up the rest of the grid in a car infamous for drowning in a midfield it doesn't belong in, for Ricciardo to struggle that much in the McLaren, or for Lecerc to have so many complications with his car. driver and flop of the year could honestly have been swapped and you wouldn't have been entirely wrong, but i think i'd put either Carlos or Perez in there for driver of the year. both have been remarkably consistent in a drivers seat thats been having issues and lacking results for years, and to see them come through *that strong* in their first year of driving the car was amazing.

So a good way of assessing order rankings is to allocate each correct answer a value of N-1. Where N is the number of rankings. So here each correctly predicted driver is awarded 19 points. For every one position the prediction is wrong from the results 1 point is lost (e.g. predicting MV to be 3rd when he was 1st would give you 17 points for this prediction. @9:30 ye and that wasnt a "of course" either, for most of the season it did look like mclaren would get p3 constructors but fair shout to that curly dude over at the crimsons, clearly they had a good think about last season and were intend on not going on that road further, late in the season their power unit development just outdid the upperhand we had... the mclaren livery is still much better tho :P

All but 2 of my predictions came true (even though one should have) predicted max would be champ predicted Daniel to win a GP predicted Lando to win a GP predicted Mclaren to be P3 predicted both williams would enter Q2 at least once predicted perez would get a win with RB and pretty much predicted that Lewis and Max would crash into eachother at least once so all in all not bad haha but as you say, next year is almost impossible to predict... you mentioned Haas, well I'm kind of hoping they make that big step forward again to at least be able to score points. they had it really rough, as due to their own decision to not develop the car ofcourse, but still, how can you motivate your drivers, knowing very well they'll be dead last, if even finishing at all for a whole season

I don't agree totally with the take on Gio, he clearly had the one lap pace to qualify in q2-3, but in the races he was often messed up by poor strategies or unfortunate events, although he would have scored few more points than Kimi, but still he's not a big deal, especilly compared to 30 millions. I agree with the fact that he should have shown his real potential at least last season

First off, love the Mercedes long-sleeve shirt, have the same one myself! Aside from the abysmal Daniel Ricciardo prediction (P4 in the Driver's Standings I wish 😂), they weren't that bad! Correctly said Williams would jump Alfa Romeo & didn't have much faith in Aston Martin. The only drivers you kinda wrote off were Sainz & Gasly. Hamilton & Verstappen were always going to be either P1 or P2, so you're becoming the Stephen A. Smith of NBA Finals lol (for those who know).

I'm going to have to hard disagree with you on Ocon. He had one fluke win after Bottas went bowling on a track infamously hard to overtake on. The rest of the year he just wasn't in the mix at all. So many times he didn't make it out of the first round of qualifying. Alpine without Riccardo went from challenging for P3 in contractors to struggling to remain relevent. Ocon should have lost his seat to Gasly or Piastri and the fact he didn't was just due to Alpine being happy with mediocre results.
