my daughter is 10 & she *helps* me look after the four guinea pigs but no way could she do the full cage cleans or stuff, she just passes me things I need etc I agree parents need to be onboard with pets such as these. I wanted to get guinea pigs so I had no expectations for my kids to look after them & now I know how much work it is I would never recommend them as a "starter pet" or ideal for children, so I hate that they're often viewed like that

I think it is more not just your age but your willingness and being responsible. Someone can be really good at reading while maybe another person just isn't very good at reading and that's okay. Yes! I watched a ton of Victoria Raechel and probably some other people and did a ton of research on Google for month and months before I got a Hamster. I also found Alyssa's videos when I just was looking for Guinea Pig Care because for now on I am gonna do my research for every animal even if they are animals I don't want just to be educated and her videos have been extremely helpful and made me realize that even if I do want guinea pigs I would much rather wait until I have the space, time, and money to give them the proper care they need.

And also make sure you can financially support both their care and vet trips. And also it’s probably be a good idea to check with your landlord just to make sure you’re allowed to have them and how many you can have before getting them, I see a lot that people get guinea pigs then have to desperately rehome them because their landlord didn’t approve.

I’m with you on the “temporary cage” I can understand if you rescue a guinea pig on short notice but the very next day should be a priority to get a larger set up ✔️ Part of me feels like this is the guinea pigs home why would you send a pic of the piggie in a storage container even if it’s a “temporary cage”

I’m glad you made this video because it pushed me back into motivation of getting a permanent home for my Guinea pigs as there are three of them in a 2x4 c&c as a temporary home because it was a rescue mission, I was driving behind this lady and I saw she had dumped a box in a a near by river which had then three in it. Hey Alyssa! I’m not saying this is every case, but a temporary cage could also be where you have two “male” pigs and one is a girl and they have a baby. This did happen to me, but I changed the cage a week later to a 2x6 c&c and got two more pigs so they could have partners.

I will say that I agree with you on the horizontal size of the cage. But my pigs have always loved having lofts. I think boys enjoy it more than girls. Mine have a huge cage, 2x10, and still enjoy love running up and down the ramp and sleep in the loft.

Feedback on this please: So I really want guinea pigs (I'm 12, 13 in oct), from the moment I wanted them I've probably spent an average of 3 hours per day watching research videos and just generally researching them. I've decided on a c&c grid cage, like most people. I want them to have heaps of room so I have started to save up for a 3x5. At first I just wanted 2 pigs, now 4. My parents have said they will help with toys, food and accessories if I can save up for the cage (£98.88 for all the basic cage supplies). Thoughts? Any tips?

I think the main concern is that kids are unable to drive to the vet and pay for those vet bills. So when your Guinea pigs need the vet you’ll have to have a parent drive there and pay for it. Meaning, kids can’t own guinea pigs without help from adults.

I recently bought a wooden cage 150x60x45cm (not sure what that is in feet). I heard you speak about the amonia in their pee and the small enclosed storage tub. Is this the case with the wooden enclosure ? It's from wooden world, all wood with a perspex glass at the front. The cage hasn't been delivered yet and nor do I have the piggies so I'm just asking before I get them. I have had a guinea pig before and I was, hands up, the one with the single piggie as well as a store-bought cage. I did let him free roam my house when I was supervising, he slept in the cage at night or when I was out. He lived a happy and healthy 6 years of life :)

Aspen bedding can be one you can try (tho it's not a paper bedding) it's a wood bedding BUT IT'S THE ONLY wood bedding that is acceptable.

I bought the 120 ferplast cage as the petshop said it fit 2 piggy, it did for about a month before I quickly realised it was 2 small so we just cleared out our office room as we didn't use it and they still have the cage but have 24h access to the whole room and they are happy and used to fight but pretty much stopped now ( they are boys)

My heart breaks for the sweet girl that is trying so hard to make a good life for her pigs, but her parents won’t allow a bigger cage. Any parent that allows their child to commit to an animal/animals, should be willing to help provide the very best for them. We have a ranch with horses, donkeys, dogs, cats and parrots and my days are spent making sure all of them are happy and exercised. Honestly, I think you were being extremely respectful during this entire video. It’s simple, if you can’t afford the BARE MINIMUM to get your piggies a decent size cage, you don’t need one. If you can’t afford say about $100 for a cage, how are you going to afford to take your piggy to the vet when they’re sick?

Well true my temporary cage was kayee starter kit definitely more for traveling even emergency evacuation. My husband made a 52x36 home made cage. Wood frame and base, have plastic lining on the bottom used 2 play pen sets wire sides panels. Has a wire panel lid on the top to open. With wheels to move it around. Use washable waterproof bedding pads (queen size bed) for the bottom then line it with fleece pads made and then extra layers smaller bedding pads and then their fleece bedding smaller (change daily) for the spots he goes at to save on cleaning everything 😄. Now this just for one guinea pig I rescued from a exotic store. I wasn't planning on having one but I saw him alone not in a pair. Now he has a big enough cage now in search for a male guinea pig. True my husband was going do loft but it was going be taller cage so have space but I said no they need more floor space vs height. If was a rat cage yes 😄 they love climbing.

We have a dog and so my cage I got is really big and be keep the humongous pen out and it’s actually really good for them they love it super much EDIT:IM 18

Me and my fiancé and 7 yr old have 3 male piggys in a 2x6 c&c cage! I take care of them and my daughters “chore” is to give them pellets and vitamins daily…. does she? No I do do because you can’t expect a child to take care of a pet when they can’t take care of them selves! But I let her belive she takes care of them but I fully know I’m the one responsible for them, me and my fiancé both said she can not get a pet of her own till she’s a teenager or adult because they are not responsible enough
