@@annayako7992 EXACTLY. I don't have much money so when I rescued my two chins, I bought a tall, empty cage, and hand made the ledges and all three of the levels. I used an old wooden boom box as there little hid out, it's big and has two circular openings which they love to poke there heads out of and stare at me for treats. I bought a chin spin and they have a tunnel coming out of the bottom of there cage where they can go in and out of the cage to a play pen. My two chins' name's are Sheik and Sheva and I pour my heart into them.

!ATTENTION CHIN OWNERS! Please do NOT use any paper bedding. If the chinchilla ingests it it will expand in their stomach and can cause blockages, bloat, and then death. If you decide to use a loose bedding it has to be Aspen shavings or if need be Kiln dried pine shavings but that is it. Everything aside from those and fleece and tile are extremely dangerous for them. Hope thats helpful!

@@cryst4lm00n3 You aren't stupid it's okay! Carefresh or any of that bedding that bedding generally used for hamsters is not good for chinchillas. Like the original poster stated, if your chinchilla ingests any of that bedding it will swell inside them. That's the whole point of the bedding: to absorb all the moisture. However, swelling inside your chinchilla can cause blockages and can lead to death. Your best route would be to use either pine bedding or fleece. The smell of pine blocks out the smell of chinchilla pee well, but it can be quite messy as your chin can kick it out of the cage. Fleece is great because it is neat and looks nice, but I find myself having to change his fleece more often then I did when I had pine bedding because it doesn't block the odor too well!

It really just depends on your chinchillas if they are a little mean or sometimes play around roughly then it can cause fights but I mean it all depends on you and your thought and how your chinchillas react and also how long have they been sharing a wheel?

I have been watching you since a few months ago and just yesterday we got a 3 year old chinchilla from someone who had it sitting in a dark room eating guinea pig food and very unhealthy treats. we are getting him a four foot tall cage and a bunch of chinchilla toys and food. I know your not active on this channel anymore but other people are so- Anyways, I have wanted a chinchilla ever since I was 2 and my parents never let me get one since they said it was to much work. They are finally letting me get one because I had a parrot that died of some sort of parasite that we didn't catch soon enough and they felt bad. I'm 12 now btw. I'm so excited! I'm gonna name it Tofu! I'm also going to put shelves and ledges into my old bird cage (The bird cage is HUGE, It takes up so much space and it's quite tall) so I can put Tofu in it. Oop I also gotta say that I'm getting him from our local chinchilla rescue! :D

Chinchillas naturally poop alot. It can increase depending on how much food they eat and the amount and kind of treats you give. They should eat 1-2 tablespoons for food and at most 1 treat a day. Treats should not be commercial or ANY fruits, veggies, wheat, and oat product. Exceptable treats are stuff like rose hips and goji berries

First Name Last Name A plastic wheel is not a very good option really as it’s toxic for chins I got mine from a bad home and they had one of those wheels they are definitely too small for them I would also say that the middle part of the wheel (the bump thing 😂 in the middle) is really bad as it causes chinchillas to arch their backs in order to fit in the wheel as it’s already too small which can be really bad later on I would recommend a chin spin as they are the correct material and the right size hope this was helpful x

It looks like the blue fleece ramp covers that come with the critter/ferret nation. From what I can see, that’s what they are and they’re safe as long as it’s fleece covering it 💕

I would just like to give everyone a tip on the swings (for example the green swing on the top at 14:05). If you're chinchilla starts biting off the black thick stirpe around the edges, there's a possibilitie that it will try and jump through the space between the green part of the swing and the black stripe. Unfortunately, that is how my chinchilla died, she got stuck and hanged herself on accident.

Hi, I don't intend on this coming off rude, but personally for #6 I would definitely not say that cage is okay. I just feel, no matter the age, that cage is far too small, even for a hamster. In addition, if you were planning on upgrading it, there would have been a lot of money saved if you had just got the larger cage and not both the large and small. Just some constructive criticism for anyone who needed it :) Again, no intention at all of coming off as rude. I've just had years of research and so yeah :))

H Dell no. If you don’t have money don’t buy a pet. It’s as simple as that. Chinchillas have to have a Partner! It’s really important for them and if they can’t jump and run a lot they get really depressive and then you’ll have to spent a lot more money on the vet

chinchillas dont need partners, and if you get two you will have to house them separately. in walmart online, they have a yaheetech cage thats 3'5 feet with 3 leves for 70-80$ and its great! I sugest for you to enter in a facebook chinchilla group since a lot of people here dont know shit and sometimes this channel doesnt give all the info you need.

It’s also their bedding. Their pee needs somewhere to go so the fleece and the towel underneath it absorb the pee. That way they aren’t stepping and sleeping on wet pee all the time😊💕

Chinchillas only have nails in their back paws and I would highly discourage trimming them. It can be painful especially since like their teeth they trim their own nails.

some of these cages that you said were “too small” were completely fine. chinchillas are rock dwellers not tree climbers so width is much more important than height. anything over 5ft in height can actually be considered dangerous for chinchillas. (all my info is from chinchillas of the uk forum)

Briella Salisbury i know , that’s why they need lots and lots of ledges. However , it is much more beneficial to have a cage that’s bigger in width than height.

I think 14 would be fine, but captivity is different than the wild. As long as you have a big width and it’s maybe 3 feet tall it should do. Many animals are way more “active” and need to jump around more than in the wild

So i need help, I have I think almost a 2 year old chin, I got her when she was 6 months old in last December and so whenever we let her out, theres poop under the couches, she chews the walls, and even the plastic in her cage. Yes. Plastic. How do you get Merlin to be such a good, calm chin? Id like to know plsss ;D

•rose skies• I don’t think you can train them to not poop or chew things haha. I have two myself and I just put a wall up to separate the room. And in one half of the room they can’t really destroy stuff and it’s easier to clean because they can’t get under things

So my cage has custom wood shelves (the wood is safe) wooden hut, metal and plastic (away from reach) water bottle, a white hammock, Chin spin, pumice stone popcicle, loads of wood toys, and metal hay and pellet rack
