@@LawryMathias I agree the two go together..but from experience, I believe the method is the most important. Because if you have the best product but dont apply it often enough and your hair is always dry, and/or you rip through your hair whenever you detangle it...you're still not gonna retain length as well as you could have with the right methods. I learned this the hard way

@alex1462

Products do grow hair, but the caveat is that they can only get you to your max growth potential. If you grow your max potential already, they aren't going to make it any faster. The Sheamoisture JBCO shampoo used to have Red Clover and Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3 in it when it used to be called Strengthen Growth and Restore. They are scientifically studied growth stimulants that prevent hair fall, promote tissue regeneration and improve blood circulation. Now the shampoo is called Strengthen and Restore, and it only has the peppermint oil, but that also stimulates growth. Menthol and Mint oils are vasodilators that stimulate growth by widening blood vessels, aka stimulating blood flow. Massage also stimulates growth on the cellular level. The small blood vessels dilate and allow better circulation. The follicles stretch due to the forces, which cause the follicles to produce thicker hair. All these growth products and methods do is try to get you to your max potential; they either prevent hormones, like DHT, from causing hair fall or improve blood circulation. If you eat healthy, drink water, and exercise regularly, these extra steps aren't really necessary if you don't have hormone related hair loss. The problem is cardiovasular disease is the leading cause of death in the US, and most people don't have perfect blood circulation. So things like massaging your scalp while hanging upside down can do wonders if you aren't already exercising everyday.
@TeediousRaven
@TeediousRaven 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this!! I'm so surprised how skeptical people are of the inversion method!! You NEED blood flow to get to the follicle! Gravity plays a part in poor circulation but when you do hang upside down where does all that blood go?? To your scalp!!!!!! Lol also there is only 1 thing that doubles hair growth and actually keeps your hair in the growth, anagen stage...it's MSM!!😊

@alex1462
@alex1462 4 жыл бұрын
@@TeediousRaven actually that's a misconception. Going upside down actually reduces blood flow. When you go upside down, gravity causes more forces to act on your vessels and they have to work harder. So the reason why you face flushes and your head feels full of pressure is because the blood is, in a sense, stuck in you head. You don't want stagnant blood. You want fresh blood for optimal oxygen and nutrient diffusion. You want a faster flow. The reason I think it works for hair growth is because when you go upright again after the Trendelenburg position (medical head down tilt), your cerebral blood flows faster than it was before you went head down; it kinda overcompensates. So when you combine that with a freshly massaged scalp, in which many vessels are working as well as possible, you get a more optimal blood flow for maximum growth. And then the oil or growth treatment you used slowly penetrates over the next few hours as a topical treatment to nourish the cells even more and/or combat hormone related hair loss. I can't speak on the effects of MSM, but judging based on its molecular formula and if it's effects do remain after stopping usage, my guess is that it acts as a sulfur donor to keratin and strengthens the proteins in the growing hair. So even after you stop using it, the stronger hair you grew remains.

Sis we love and respect you for the effort this video took lol! It truly had me laughing through the whole thing lol. Hopefully we can see the review as well. Scalp massages are definitely a form of relaxation that we should definitely do more often. castor oil definitely does not actually grow the hair specifically. However it does provide proteins/nutrients to the scalp, which aids in the overall structure of the follicles that are pushing out the hair. Hair growth is connected to your metabolism. So as long as you’re alive, it will grow.

About the box braids thing, I actually think it speaks for itself in regards to new naturals. Long term protective styling is pretty high risk and even if you go to a reputable place, your hair might not take to the style. Some hair types don't like having high heat on the scalp, some can't take any kind of tension whatsoever. Someone that just became a natural would be under the assumption that it's the most resilient type of hair there is when it's not. She prolly should've explained it better, but it's more important to get to know your hair then to pack it away for 6 weeks. The priority for hair health should be to interact with it on a daily basis so you can know it's characteristics and most naturals who are involuntarily stuck at shoulder length literally refuse to do that so yeah. I agree with her.

My take on oiling combs, it's not worth it. The oils that we tend to use for our hair (castor, olive) go rancid over time, while the oils we use to oil wooden cookware (mineral oil, etc.) do not go rancid. Mineral oil isn't a good oil for hair, and rancid oils aren't safe for our hair, so it's a no for me.

Been using MSM for past 6 weeks and my hair has been growing like a weed. Maybe I notice more than some because I am older and my hair was thinning. After the MSM my hair is thick and I know it is growing fas because my grey roots are out of control! I suspect a younger person may not notice much because their hair already stays in the growing phase longer than someone older. MSM is supposed to prolong the growing phase.

Ok my thing is if your box braids hurt when you first get them done, or you can't move them around, or it's hard to sleep, it's not a protective styles. A protective styles should give you zero pain. Same with other styles. Also the product buildup from the gel used for box braids causes a lot of breakage when taking them out(for me). Also when I have twists/box braids my hair tends to start coming out of the braids the longer I have them in which may also cause breakage(also for me). Now I keep it stretched in loose braids for weeks(4-5) and wash my hair in twists. And just throw on a headband wig(minimal clip usage) when I go out. My hair has grown more doing that in just a few months than it ever has in box braids. No mini twists, no box braids, no low puffs(extreme breakage). This is all just my experience though. Everyone is different

I think hair growth happens naturally. Regardless of if you are adding oils, rice water, etc. hair will grow unless you have alopecia or another medical reason. Like most things on our body our hair (length, pattern, strength etc) is determined by our genome. But like you mentioned hair retention is key because it’s the breakage that makes it seem like hair doesn’t grow

Yep because I know when I had a relaxer I absolutely hated anything on my scalp or Hair & would not allow it and no matter how much my stylist complained about how my hair was going to be damaged and how it was going to break it just kept growing to shoulder blade left or more. Whenever it got really short was after one of her so-called trims, generally around 5 inches. My hair only started growing seemingly when I stopped putting grease and stuff like that on my scalp so she couldn't convince me otherwise.

MSM works! The thing about it is it’s not like a biotin supplement where you can notice an increase in growth every month (from 1/4 to 1/2in. for example). MSM, if I remember correctly, lengthens your anagen phase - active growth and life span of your hair - so really it keeps your hair from breaking off for a longer amount of time. I’ve seen more length retention than growth when I used it by itself. I pair mine with vitamin c for maximum absorption AND an actual growth stimulant such as biotin or hair, skin, nails vitamins. Note: if you use MSM topically I imagine that it'll act more like a stimulant. Also rice water works but f that, it’s a lot of work. Onion treatment works a little better with less work 🤷🏾‍♀️

Your reaction videos are well done. I enjoy your commentary. I am a firm believer that what you put in your body matters the most with regard to hair growth so your diet is important. For example, I drink a lot of water and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and my hair remains hydrated for two weeks (my wash day is every two weeks). With regard to external care, deep conditioners/masks that impart moisture and protein to the hair strands and oils such as castor oil and aloe vera, etc. that provide slip and nutrients as well can also stimulate growth and enable length retention. I will vouch for Jamaican Black castor oil. I had a large bald spot for months after I big chopped from relaxers and within one month of applying Jamaican Black castor oil to the area twice per week the hair started to grow in.

MSM is great. I used it consistently for about 6 months. I noticed my fallout was about 50% less than usual and my hair grew over an inch each month. However I started a whole healthy hair routine around that time so it could be a combination of all the changes. I also noticed an dramatic improvement to my skin and nails, my skin was clear and glowing and nails were strong and grew faster, so it was definitely benefitting me overall. Stopped using it due to pregnancy and breastfeeding, but will definitely get back on it once I stop bf. it’s important to do your research before taking it. Curlyproverbs has some interesting videos on MSM. I highly recommend it!

Yea girl it's the no context for me as well. There are women who dont use weave as protective styles at all and still doesn't have long "grown out" hair. There really are some women who never have an issue with their hair growing long. Like they can chop it off over and over and still end up with mid back length and longer. No box braids? Because you can do natural styles that are still like mini twists or braids or do wash n gos when yo hair is saying Girl Noooooo! And you can always get tangles that leave you having to keep cutting it. I think I was chasing the perfect product and I think I need to focus on Moisture which I'm trying to find the right products that help maintain my moisture. And ayurveda honestly has helped my hair. So using henna and amla and fenugreek....well if herbs can be good for the insides of your body I guess it can work for the scalp. But I totally understand you not wanting to bash people's opinions because we are all allowed to it. I dont see it as being scared, you actually want to be respectful and I totally understand that. Since I bought the stuff well, I have a lot to use up cuz I don't think it does anything rubbing it on my scalp. May as well not have to buy extra ibuprofen or something but I don't want to get fatter.

Rice water definitely works for me... It helps to retain length because it stopped my hair snapping as much. When people say hair growth we normally mean retention. People need to stop arguing semantics.

I have and still use MSM. Heard about it from Curly Proverbz but she adds to oils whereas I add to a meal replacement shake. I did notice an increase in growth but I was also doing the onion garlic treatment that summer when I started as I was having scalp issues. She also recommends gradually increasing the amount over a few weeks or so as it can cause breakouts if too much is used too soon. I did take a break from it for a few months because I noticed a plateau and just started back up again in October. I feel like I do see a difference in growth after the pause.

I think having a routine with the same products allows for healthy hair growth. To much change will cause hair growth to be at a standstill

8:00 isn't that just a normal 3 year growth rate? I grew out an undercut from zero to past my shoulder blades in that same time frame and didn't have turn my scalp into a deep fryer with all those oils. 🤔

So about the girl who said her hair grew in a few weeks....I get my hair braided into a beehive and get a sew in every now and again, and my growth is just like hers in about 6 weeks honestly. I dont use those oils during that time. Also I swear by ayurvedic natural products...I get the max growth and retention with these esp aloe vera, amla, henna, fenugreek plus a host of oils like vit E, grape seed oil, argan etc (i have low porosity). I have used msm powder. I personally haven't seen a great difference with it. As for rice water, its not for me. If ur not careful with rice water it will break ur hair off.....over all its about balance....too much protein ur hair def breaks, too much moisture ur hair breaks. IMO, some products (particularly natural) can aid in max hair growth and retention along with healthy practices such as low manipulation, protective styling, low to no heat and absolutely finger detangle as much as possible. Its about finding what works and being consistent. I have been natural for 13 yrs now and I experienced ALOT of mishaps with my hair. I just got a blow out and cut for the first time in 7 years. I was waist length before my cut and now Im mid back length.

People do hair growth videos but there's no preface showing how fast it was growing beforehand lol. Like give me a month length check PRIOR to starting this new product so we can see lol 🤷🏽‍♀️

i feel like the massage and oil growth tips would only help for areas tha dont get as much attention as most of your head. so yeah edges and the nape of your neck. but it wouldn't give crazy hair growth like videos claim
