REACTING TO NewJeans Ditto FOR THE FIRST TIME!!

DITTO is 2023 "Song of the Year" at most of the award shows; it's a masterpiece that has already made it's mark as one of the top songs in K-Pop history. The weather is cooling and DITTO-season is coming.

So, I've heard from multiple different theories but the one I choose to believe is that heeseo is supposed to be US, the fans. Some people find kpop when they are in a dark place. It's much more parasocial than most music markets. You feel a connection to the idols because of all of the content they make of them. We see so many moments of their life that we feel attached. Newjeans is playing the kpop group, heeseo is the fan who's lonely/depressed and using them as an escape from the REAL world. The boy represents the real world. Deer represent growth, peace, and guidance if they cross your path, or so they say. When she's watching the tapes, she's remembering the good parts of becoming parasocial and some say she could be falling back into it because she sees them, but some say it's just showing the growth.

Their fandom name is Bunnies, and the name Ban HeeSoo (the girl who's filming) sounds like bunnies in Korean.

Great Job 👏👏🥂. I'm so glad you went in chronological order. Their MVs concept really pays off by the end of OMG. (Btw the Minji bathtub scene was made to match the original scene in Attention, it wasn't't filmed during the 1st EP) Their next EP (Get Up) has a Video for every track as well. - New Jeans - Super Shy - E.T.A. - Cool With You (A&B) -Get Up (is at the end of Cool With You, part B) - ASAP

Leaving a separate comment for OMG so you can differentiate. OMG is basically showing the girls as what fans/the public call them. Haerin is a "cat". Hanni is the perfect idol(this still hasn't been confirmed but it's a nice way to see it, as an iphone is a "machine") Hyein is a princess. Danielle laughs too much/at everything(the silly but SANE one) and Minji doesn't think she's "sick" and is a doctor. They have lost their true identities, and it goes back to being parasocial. They try to please fans too often.

spot on but i don't agree Dani is sane... she remembers them as newjeans because she has become so consumed in being an idol thats all she beleives she is now.. again as the others forgetting her real self outside of idol life... she is even shown laughing maniacally watching white noise .. probably imaging shes seeing newjeans on the tv (mirroring the same thing ban heesoo was doing in ditto) the 4th wall break is an odd one but i beleive shes actually just seeing the doctors and nurses and hospital staff but in her head she imagines them to be the filming crew.

There is a weird secret KZbin channel that goes along with this called "Ban Heesoo". It's probably not worth reacting to in a video because it's mostly a series of creepy found footage style clips but it's worth looking at if you are curious to see how see how strange the story in this video goes.

Yeah OMG plays in the back and they're doing the OMG chores, but OMG wasn't out yet when Ditto was released so that was a nice little teaser 😊 The scene where Heesoo doesn't use her umbrella in solidarity because the other girls don't have umbrellas is so sweet at first but then at the end it's kinda heartbreaking when you see her walking through the rain alone 😭 I think you hit the head on the nail when it comes to the meaning of the Ditto videos. And in a way I think you can argue that they _were_ real, even if they existed only in her mind. Maybe she made them up, but they helped her in a real way, at least for a while. But they were like a crutch. So I thought her dropping the camera was her deciding to try and live without them. The phone ringing I thought was them trying to call her, or at least that's how she imagined it, symbolising the temptation of letting them back in her life, as she was sitting on the floor having a hard time trying to let them go. And in that same way, idols _are_ real people, and they do care about their fans and talk to us and know we exist and that relationship does have value, but it's not a complete substitute for real friendships. And we don't know what Heesoo's life is like when she is older, but hopefully her life is more stable and she has friends and family that love her, and she's in a place where she can have a more healthy relationship with her old "imaginary" friends and let them back into her life just a little bit, because they weren't really _bad_ for her, as long as she just doesn't let them be _everything_ to her. And in short I think the Ditto MVs are asking "Who are the fans without NewJeans?" while OMG asks "Who are NewJeans without the fans?" I don't have an explanation as in-depth for OMG but in general I guess the way idols live must also be surreal in a way where you can sometimes lose yourself. Though obviously I think there's no such thing as "being wrong" when it comes to interpreting art. Even if that's not what the video directors etc were going for, if that's the message we take from it, that's still beautiful.

other videos to be aware of are E.T.A which also has para-social lore much like ditto but is a lot darker.. and 'cool with you side a and side b'... which is nice because its very story driven but doesnt have their lore in it.. so its easy to decipher as long as you know the story behind it.. and then also 'How Sweet' not so much lore but a pretty deep take on their current situation if you scratch beneath the surface...

Your first theory was right for 'ditto' newjeans lore is heavily based in para-social relationships betweens fans and idols... in ditto 'ban heesoo' is indeed a lonely girl who uses kpop/newjeans to help her cope by creating an imaginary world where she is friends with them... however although this temporarily helps her its stunting her and stopping her from 'moving on' in real life... the boy represents her way of way of moving on in reality as he shows interest in her... in part she realises she has to forget about newjeans and move on in reality.. she does eventually make friends with the boy but this moving forward is a bittersweet ending as later on in life she starts to delve into her newjeans imaginary world again... the ending is her actually just watching blank tapes/white noise (like she was shown doing earlier) but in her head she sees newjeans.. further implied its all in her head when she sees them run in the room... the video is essentially about how kpop can help people get through things but is not the ultimate answer and eventually you must move on in reality and face whatever issue you have in life

OMG follows on from ditto but this time its the opposite on how fans affect idols and its negative implications.. it also ties into ditto in a number of way... its about how the demands of fans (and the industry) can weigh so heavily on idols that eventually they forget their real selves and just become what their fans perceive them as... hanni beleiving shes an iphone is the most obvious one.. shes there to sing and dance and entertain you and be there for you at a touch of a button... (she even tries to get in touch with heesoo from the ditto video.. maybe trying to lure her back into her imaginary world) fans say haerin looks and acts like a cat so much so often that she now beleives she is one (her fighting this feeling is foreshadowed in ditto where she tells the cat that 'shes not a cat'... plus this cat she beleives she is.. is the same one from the ditto video). Dani is consumed in being an idol to the point its driven her mad.. she watches white noise on tv (probably imaging shes seeing herself and newjeans... mirroring ban heesoo from ditto) while laughig maniacally.... she not ok like some people think.. shes just as gone as the rest... i do beleive she does remember they are newjeans but i also think she seeing the doctors and nurses and other people in the ward as the 'crew' in her head.. similarly Minji is not ok and not a doctor... she thinks shes one as fans label her as the mother of the group.. so her thinking shes a doctor means in her mind she can still look after her girls.. finally hyein is seen as the princess so she thinks she is one... however toxic fans (represented by the bear) want her for themselves so kill her prince charming because shes is theirs not prince charmings... the very end is minji shutting down a toxic fan and its a reminder to not put too many demands on idols.. they are just people and do get affected by what people say about them... you will drive them crazy eventually if you arent careful

You can literally drive yourself crazy trying to come up with theories about Ditto and OMG lol. OMG connects to Ditto early on when Hani is running through the iPhone and she says “Hesso answer the call..” which calls back to Ditto when you see Hesso in a state of depression letting her phone ring. Was Hani trying to call her ??? The cat in OMG is also shown is in Ditto when the members were calling Herrin Kitty Cat. Then of course some dance scenes from Ditto are shown in OMG. The camera is interesting….it glitches a lot in Ditto and it glitches in OMG. The camera seems to glitch when someone looks directly at it or when the person holding the camera has a revelation type moment. In Ditto I find it interesting that Hani stands out from the rest. She always is wearing a different color shirt from the other girls. Hani also was the one who had the yellow sticky note put on her back. And a scene where the other members are standing up looking away from the camera…Hani is squatting looking at the camera. Hani also seems to be the one who communicates with Hesso the most. I still haven’t figured out the Ditto theory. I know the most popular is Hesso represents Kpop fans loosing a sense of reality when it comes to their favorite idols. But my first theory was that Hesso was friends with the New Jeans members and the old footage was real…as she is shown in her later years watching it with a somber attitude. At some point there was some accident involving her and New Jeans and Hesso is the lone survivor. The video kind of shows a grieving type of vibe. Then I thought that maybe Hani was the lone survivor and she became Hesso…either from loss of memory or a grieving process. That explains why she is the odd one standing out in the group and why she seems to be communicating with Hesso the most…like a split personality or something. The camera seems to glitch like confusing memories with the present. Anyway I’m probably way off too on figuring out the theory … but it’s fun lol
