Written originally by Jasim uddin Ahmed and composed by Abbas uddin Ahmed (not related) this song depicts a boatman who is rowing his boat on a mighty river in a dark stormy night. He can’t see the banks or bends of the river, he doesn’t know where he is going, what his fate will be. In flashes of lightning he can se the shore for a moment but in the next second he’s lost again. He’s crying out for help to bring his boat to the shore to an unknown guide who can help him navigate, and help him find the Devine power who can ultimately save him from his peril. Both the original writer and composer has passed away now, yet the eternal message of the song lives on.
