Grandads speech is one of my favourite only fools moments, his face while hes speaking is very sad and haunting, and at the same time so full of emotion.

I watched the whole series many times on repeat. It's always equally funny and brilliant. That grandad's speech is one of the reasons Only Fools and Horses was and still is such a great and popular show. Hope you enjoy Only Fools and Horses

The scarf Rodney wears is a bit of a very early 80s New Romantic/new wave fashion trend bands like Duran Duran, Teardrop Explodes, Spandau Ballet wore them, Rodney is just trying to be hip back in the day.

I am 75 and my dad was a sergeant in the Lancashire Fusiliars in WW1. I was 6 when he died of lung cancer and though he was a heavy smoker i would have thought being gassed as he was according to my older brother i assume that being gassed must have been a factor in the disease of his lungs.

The Soviet Union almost fired all its nukes at the west in 1983 when Nato was running operation able archer. A Soviet nuclear missile captain saved the world by not firing when his systems were telling him to do so. The Russian satellites mistook clouds over the US for middle launches and the Soviet system was ordering a response. We had nuke air raid siren drill in 1984, and could hear it at school. No one knew what to do and the only air raid shelter was under county all, 3 miles away. Not possible to get home and all get there if the 4 minute warning went off.
