It’s always good to seek help for something unhealthy, even if you’re unsure. For myself, at times, I rely on a “fake it” attitude, or I will really beat myself down and hate everything about myself (a symptom of one of my conditions, unfortunately), and working on self care, which is very difficult for me to do, can make me feel slightly better afterwards. But, it’s only to try and work around my feelings and thoughts, and definitely not a cure or applying to everyone. I have a severe progressive disability that causes me to depersonalize, along with many severe deformities, one of them is with my reproductive organs, which causes my body dysmorphia and that intense sadness and self hate that I can feel.

The Laneige lip mask is also exfoliating, not only moisturizing. So some peeling is normal, for me its the only product that helped my lips. Lip balms do nothing for me, even slathered in a thick layer and I swear by this lip mask. But in my case, in the morning the dried skin, that's on top of the lips just comes off, no bruises, irritation or anything. After that the lips stay perfect the whole day

@sugarxsnap2 жыл бұрын
9:30 I'm not sure I necessarily agree with this statement. From my experience, moisturizer kind of sets the stage for everything else. I hear people often say, "great skincare starts with a good cleanser" but I'd argue that great skincare starts with a healthy moisture barrier.... And I see WAY TOO MANY comments and reviews from people who complain products don't work for them or were too irritating, or that their skin is "bad" etc. etc, and then reveal they don't moisturize. Like ever. To me, it's a no-brainer.... We need a healthy base to work with. And maybe it's just that I've experienced it, firsthand, so I know how important it is. I've acne-prone, combination-dry, reactive, somewhat sensitive skin that sometimes gets dehydrated and also really oily in my t-zone. When I first decided to start a healthy skincare routine I was fortunate enough to choose a very, very nice, dermatologist-made moisturizer.... And even with a very basic 3-step cleansing routine, before even using serums and treatments, I saw VAST improvements in my skin. Growing up I was oily and never dry, so I got into the habit of believing my skin was 'moisturized' enough and it wasn't necessary for me to moisturize regularly... And even in my adult life, since acne was my main concern, I thought a good cleanser was all I needed and would often skip the moisturizer. But that philosophy never passed the test of time, nor reality. Instead, it caused a lot of damage to my skin. Even though I don't have sun damage, melsma, wrinkles, irritated, or flaky skin, my skin was in rough shape. It was dull, fragile, thin, depleted, dehydrated, and textured. ....... Until I started moisturizing regularly. Again, before I was even using treatments, exfoliants, and serums on my face, I was already obtaining a healthy, supple, glowing complexion. Then, because my skin was so moisturized and healthy, by the time I felt ready to start using actives, direct acids, and especially retinol, I was in good shape and ready to go. Now, I use Salicylic Acid daily, AHAs (like TO's Glycolic Acid) regularly, gentle enzyme exfoliants, clay masks, and have used basically everything you can think of (Mandelic Acid, Lactic Acid, fruit peels, Vitamin C, etc.) at some point, and, now, even Retinol without having EVER experienced irritation, dryness, flaky skin, et al. Even cleansers that were once 'too harsh' or seemed to bother my skin don't bug me at all anymore. Granted, I am a FIRM supporter and do-er of patch tests (24-48 hr patch tests in more than one spot -- usually inner elbow, neck, and/or forehead) and ALWAYS pllay by a 'low and slow' guideline.... But I know my moisture barrier played a huge role when I've used products that have almost bad reputations for being too harsh without any issue. And I have sensitive, dry skin. That said, I always advise that people listen to their skin. It was my biggest lesson learned so far in this journey. Days where my skin just feels a bit "off", I'll skip the treatments or "purifying" masks.... And whenever I feel my skin is thirsty, I quench it. I skip the BHAs/AHAs, or I just spot treat. If it's feeling oily, I adjust the products in my routine. Opt for different, usually water-based treatments. But I never, ever, ever skip out on my moisturizer. That, I will not sacrifice. So, while some people might FEEL their skin is moisturized enough without moisturizer, I wholeheartedly believe, and advise, **especially** for those planning to use or currently using direct acids or dryness-inducing actives or ingredients, that they focus on strengthening their moisture barrier **first and foremost**... Or assuring it's healthy before getting too crazy. If your moisturizer causes oiliness or dryness or just doesn't appease you, find a new one. There are so many products on the market for all different skintypes that there shouldn't really be a good reason NOT to moisturize. PS. Moisturizing and hydrating are two different things. Hyaluronic Acid is good for hydration and preventing epidermic water loss, but it's not exactly moisturizing. For illustrative purposes: when I first started incorporating Salycylic Acid into my regular routine, I suffered tightness in my temples, upper cheeks, and jawline, even though I was moisturized to the high heavens and my skin was smooth to the touch and visibly suppple. That's when I decided I needed a Hyaluronic Acid to help hydrate my skin as it was thirsty and dehydrated. It worked miracles, and has become THE staple in my regimen..... But, again, I still never skip the moisturizer. They go hand-in-hand but are not interchangeable... In my opinion. Not to mention, the Hyaluronic Acid needs something occlusive (or at least emollient) to keep the hydration in. (Guess what else? Moisturizer helps combat the 'stickiness' so many complain about when using serums.. Especially HAs.) I wish everyone the best of luck finding a good moisturizer based on their skintype and preferences. I know of a few if you need recs. Happy Moisturizing! ❤

Every skin is different. I agree with Cassandra on this one, especially for some people with acne/oily/sensitive skin, who can't handle any type of moisturizer(me included); and no we can't just do a trial and error, not only can it potentially cause more damage on our skin, but it is too expensive. Serums can be enough, even oils for some. Some honestly, don't need any type of moisturizer as long as they have a relatively healthy skin barrier. Doing more can harm the skin more if you don't need it. Like Cassandra said, it's not really what others are telling you to do, but how your skin feels. If you feel like your skin is already moisturised enough w/o the moisturizer, then go with that. Tldr: Do what's working for your skin personally. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Dear Cassandra, would you consider making a video about what to use in stead of Estee Lauder advanced night repair? I have been using it for a while because it works like no other serum on my face, and it has a lovely consistency. The only problem I have with it is how fast it vanishes when you use it both day and night and it's quite pricey for a 50 ml bottle. The qualities that make this serum is that it works wonderfully on my tricky combined skin (which is acne prone too...) as it doesn't clog my pores, and it actually "lifts" and moisturises the skin so that I don't need to smear my face with creams and tons of other potions. I live in northern Europe and many great brands are not available where I live, so brands/ products that use a certain degree of international popularity would be highly appreciated. Or any tips about which products to look for in terms of ingredients for combined acne prone skin, some lifting and moisturising (preferably in one product, but any tips are welcome!)💚🙏

I get less zits and have less skin issues in general..? Is there an actual scientific reason for this?? Or am I just crazy?? I have pretty oily skin… does the sun somehow counteract all the extra oil production?? LOL just curious.. Thanks Chica for all the Amazing Info!!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Basically the sun slows down the skins healing process and so your break outs heal slower and you break out as well as a result. Wearing sunscreen protects you from the sun slowing down your skins healing process.
@morgianasartre67092 жыл бұрын
Being in the sun dries out your skin and slows down the oil production, as a result you get a temporary improvemnet in acne. UV therapy has been used as an acne treatment in the past as it kills the p. acnes bacteria but I'm pretty sure it's not the same as regular sun exposire so the effect might not be the same on this front. Plus the sun triggers our happy hormones and being happy and relaxed with reduced stress does improve acne as well.

I would love to know too, because I spent thousands of dollars on this brand (took internals from them too), along with doing an elimination diet/blood type diet and basically starved myself for a few months. The acne cleared, so not sure what it was from 😅.

My moisturizer has ceramides, and aha, bha, urea, blah, blah, blah. I don’t use serums. I do use a leave on vitamin c and retinoid moisturizer at night though

Kumquat is also citrus. And it's high place in the ingredient list would concern me if grapefruit did.

Dear Cassandra, you are a wonderful human being. You have taught me so much and literally changed the way I see the world and myself, as well as my acne, my scars and my traumas from rhe past. Thank you so much for inspiring us to be the best version of ourselves! Regarding lasers, and the great effects they have on acne and scars, makes me feel encouraged to keep trying and looking for ways to improve my "canvas" . Getting a laser treatment would be the same as using a portable light frequency "device" at home? I wonder. Take care of your beautiful soul and please keep on doing this amazing job. Abracitos 🌷

I an liking the acne free sulfur wash. It has lemon oil and ceramides. Wonder if there is a cruelty free version if this one isn't.

yes you can use eye cream all over the face, but I have many times and it's too thick and never fails to break me out somehow, the skin is way thinner so that must make a difference.

I think I developed coffee/caffeine sensitivity after drinking cups and cans of americanos everyday during my 10th grade. Now my heartbeat gets fast that I notice it so I refrain from drinking coffee as much as I can. I prefer coffee milk and tea but sometimes you need it for exam period. 😓 I once used an eye serum from Vichy all over my face it lasted a good month.

Inb4 she says what the obsessed over product is, my money is on the La Neige lip mask~ Edit: I was RIGHT, and ps I personally love the pillow balm lip treatment from too faced. Or even just cerave healing ointment, by the time I apply my lip it goes on beautifully
