Nice reaction. Pelageya is a russian folk legend even still young (but 20 years on scene). You have to notice the place also: this is the famous Red Square, behind the scene is St.Basil Cathedral (started in 1555) and the red wall on the right hand is nothing less than...Kremlin :)

This song also has another name - "Stenka Razin's Dream". It has its roots in the 18th century, when on the basis of folk legends about the rebellious Cossack Stenka Razin, the Cossacks created the so-called "historical song" (a ballad, if we take the English analogue of this genre) about Razin's supposedly prophetic dream. In this song, the main lyrical hero of the song (he is a man, although Pelageya sings on his behalf), sees a dream in which he loses his hat; when he asks his subordinate esaul (a Cossack military rank, corresponds to an officer of the middle rank) about the meaning of the dream, he replies that this is an omen of the death of Razin himself ("will lose his head"). And indeed, Razin's rebellion was suppressed and he himself was publicly executed in 1671 in Moscow - he was quartered and his head cut off.

Что касается самой песни, то она по языку не ранее конца 18 - начала 19 века, хотя наверняка на основе каких-то преданий более раннего времени создана.
