If Netherlands is really no.1 as least racist country, than that's quite depressing actually. It's definitely not the worst, but there's still plenty of racism going around here.

Don't confuse stigma and bias with racism because they're not the same. Very few people in The Netherlands are truly racist. It's just really rare. That doesn't mean there aren't any potential improvements left of course but that's mostly due to bias and group identity. It's the same for women trying to get a job in a traditionally male industry. The same goes for skin color, age group, religion, you name it. Any group label will do. People tend to include others who they feel will fit better in the existing group. It's part of human nature and how our brains are wired. That's OK as long as you're aware and try to put it aside and give people from different subgroups the same chance for the job, to enter a friends group etc. Racism is a very specific phenomenon where someone truly and consciously hates someone of a different ethnic group. This is luckily a very rare thing in The Netherlands.

To be fair to the Belgians and after going through a lot of border crossings between Belgium and the Netherlands only a few are with the Dutch side being clearly better and I have also found two where the Belgian side actually seems to have a better road quality. What did strike with me is that the cycle paths are way more consistent and safe on the Dutch side with multiple examples where it'd just be cycle lanes on the Belgian side turning into seperated cycle paths on the Dutch side

Everything is petite and tiny here, precisely because the roads are designed for safety in mind, which includes making the drivers of huge cars feel like they're impeding on others when they move their huge vehicles through a tiny neighbourhood street. This feeling of impedance makes them more alert and thereby reduces accidents. And that's important, because from the seat of those huge trucks, you can't see a child right in front of your bumper.

Important for you to know: the traffic situation. There are painted shark teeth, so the car have to give priority. Is that only in the Netherlands? I haven t travelled a lot an I haven t a car license. If that shark teeth are only in the Netherlands that is very dangerous if foreigners don t know the meaning, because they are everywhere in the country.
@terabbsАй бұрын
But you have to know the rules of the road in the country you drive in. In the UK they have a double blocked line that means the same thing and you will only see that in the UK.
@dpashutskiiАй бұрын
You always have to research the local traffic rules. Plus, it's always duplicated with the actual road sign. Road markings are just additional alerts.
@bepsnetАй бұрын
The shark teeth on the road means for the person in front of them that you have to stop and the other has priority. So in the video the pedestrian and the bike have priority over the car.
@Species1732Ай бұрын
There is also a pretty big yield sign next to the road but sharktooth, priority rules and priority signs do not apply to pedestrians because although they are road users, they are not drivers. So bicycles have priority but pedestrians have not.
@bepsnetАй бұрын
@@Species1732 I ask in a forum: In the image you shared, there is a car approaching a junction with haaientanden (yield triangles) on the road, indicating that the car must yield to other road users. A pedestrian is crossing the road in front of the car. In this situation, the car must yield to the pedestrian. Haaientanden mean that drivers must give way to all crossing traffic, including pedestrians. The pedestrian has the right of way, and the car should stop to allow them to cross safely.
@Species1732Ай бұрын
@@bepsnet Nope. Shark teeth, priority rules and priority signs do only apply to drivers (in the meaning of operators of vehicles or "bestuurders" in Dutch). Pedestrians are not "bestuurders". You do not have to take my word for it: Google "haaientanden en voetgangers" and you'll find the Dutch "Reglement verkeersregels en verkeerstekens 1990" (Traffic Rules and Traffic Signs Regulations 1990) I admit it is a "sneaky" question for a traffic exam and I think the city planners should have added a zebra crossing for pedestrians because it is confusing and requires an in-depth knowledge about the obscure difference between what traffic signs mean for a road user ("weggebruiker") and a operator of a vehicle ("bestuurder").
@user-xi2zy2mv4eАй бұрын
@Species1732Ай бұрын
@@bepsnet By the way: The driver has the right of way but better stop anyway because in case of an accident between a car and a pedestrian, child or cyclist, the driver of the car is liable for damages according to Article 185 of the Road Traffic Act (unless he/she can proof force majeur which is very difficult in most cases). It is a provision in the Traffic Act to protect vulnerable road users like pedestrians, children and cyclists

Nope it's not the taxes. It's because companies like Ahold think we like discounts. So cosmetic products are always on discount in one store chain or an other. The discount price isn't really discount it's the actually price so when you go to the Etos and a product you want doesn't have discount you actually pay more. Better go to the Kruitvat to see or the product in on discount there. There has been an entire "keuringsdienst van waarde" episode on exactly this topic. Also most of time you need to buy more than 1 of a product to get the discount. So be prepared to have a mini warehouse with cosmetic products under you sink. I have 4 bars of Dove 3, tubes of Colgate. 2 toothbrushes on storage right now.

Wat ik overal lees is dat haaientanden voor bestuurders zijn, en voetgangers zijn geen bestuurders. Sharkteeth handle priority between "bestuurders" i.e. 'drivers', and pedestrians don't drive anything, so they don't get priority.

@@mymemeplex this is correct, but oftentimes when there are sidewalks, sharkteeth are accompanied with crosswalks to "fix" this.
