A lot of things happen offscreen in this season and get a mention in a talking head or passing dialogue, like it’s implied Grace isn’t a part of B-Troupe anymore because her recent appearances have her in her street outfits rather than her dance ones, implying she’s not at the studio rehearsing and has been kicked off.

They definitely picked alternates way too late because if they magically choreographed the dances, they must have done all the spacing, and must've figured all that out, so to decide alternates now (literally days before internationals) they would have to alter a lot of the dance.

For sure! The next episode is where internationals starts with team France coming over so definitely too late! I can’t remember how far away from the actual competition (regionals, nationals, internationals) alternates have been picked in previous seasons but I’m assuming it wasn’t literally the day before 😅

7:40 - Same! I don’t want Kenzie to leave! I’m too attached to her as the last thread of previous A-Troupe!😭 I was actually so disappointed when she lost her status as dance captain and also a main dancer now that she’s volunteered to be one of the alternates. Like fair enough that she decided this because she doesn’t know all the dances and I understand both her and Pete’s sides in terms of Kenzie putting herself first for once and also Pete reminding her of Internationals being too close for distractions. But I don’t understand why she still can’t be dance captain? She’s been leading this team since Season 8 when they prepped for Nationals and she continued leading them in the first half of Season 9 with International prep before going to France. It wasn’t even her choice to go so I don’t understand why she’s lost her leader position? She can still lead the team and be the alternate or even co-Captain with Anthony to balance things out. This just doesn’t seem fair because now it feels like Kenzie has lost too much status after going abroad and if this is her final hurrah, then it’s going to be so disappointing for her not to be heavily involved in any leading or dancing. I hope that changes. Same goes for Ethan since he’s lost a lot at the cost of the Paris audition. I thought the ending twist with Camille being Grace’s secret accomplice was a good shock. Grace has my respect as a schemer! She’s always determined and so out for TNS blood that I lowkey want her to succeed. Her aligning with Team France was surprising because I was expecting Presley to be the secret scheming partner instead of them. I did question it afterwards but the next episode made it make more sense. Although I do feel it would be more effective if we got to know Camille more or even if Pascale was involved. I’m now questioning whether Kenzie and Camille’s friendship is still genuine and if the Freya audition was a ploy to distance Kenzie away from TNS but I doubt it since we know Freya is gonna appear soon. 1:08 - Thanks for calling out CBBC with the spoilers too. It’s like they always post the wrong videos way too early. As soon as I saw it on my timeline, I was like “Oh god, not again!” Just like when they spoiled Eldon being the one who made a complaint against TNS before that episode even aired, that thumbnail pretty much spoils the appearance of Freya and the return of Richelle. And you make a good point about some people won’t even know who Freya is if they don’t provide context. I didn’t even know who she was tbh.😅 I also agree with you about too much stuff happening offscreen. I really wish we would have seen everyone’s reaction to Grace being mostly responsible for the sabatoge against TNS and actually witness Grace supposedly being kicked off B-Troupe or TNS? Then again, we don’t even know if Grace returned to B-Troupe after not making A-Troupe but she must have stayed because why would she still be hanging around in Cha Cha’s all the time? Still a shame that we haven’t seen Winnie, B-Troupe, J-Troupe or even other Ultra Elite members who were supposedly in the know how with Grace’s plan. I knew Eldon was gonna fall for Grace’s fake sympathy😂 But at least him and Anthony are on better terms now. It seems like after Adele witnessed Ariana stand up to Grace, a lot of the fallout and reactions to Grace’s meddling happened offscreen. And yeah I wish we saw more of the International dances coming together because even Season 8B managed to do some of this with the Nationals dances. But I’m also disappointed that Internationals is only 3 episodes. I was hoping it could continue into a potential Season 10 but it looks like Internationals will be very short unless the season ends with another twist. It was nice to see Ariana, Olive and Adele help Jett and welcome her in their group. I also loved Kenzie’s solo to the track that sounds similar to Dance The Night (Dua Lipa Barbie track). I’d ask for an extended version but I know we’re not getting that with the TNS KZbin channel still inactive lol. Hopefully the S9B soundtrack releases soon. It was funny how you were slowly losing your sanity by the end of the episode lol.

I really enjoyed this episode. I love Kenzie's solo, the song they played just sounds like Dance the Night by Dua Lipa, we really need a Season 9B Soundtrack. I'm loving that Jett joined with Ariana, Adele, and Olive. Ethan and Kenzie being named as an alternate is not surprising. I'm shocked that the accomplice was Camille, I'm curious how Camille was the second accomplice? Eldon was so weird in this episode with trusting Grace with the dress of the prop for the International Group Dance. I just think they are tired of having alternate auditions and decided just to observe them in my opinion. I'm looking forward to your next reaction video.

They cannot tell me that they're going to determine which studio is the best through this livestream thing or whatever this is supposed to be??? The fun thing about the first Internationals were seeing all the other teams, the new location and just getting to see them on a big stage again. Right now it's giving a normal dance recital... Also what I don't get (and correct me if I'm wrong because I don't know anything about stuff like this) is how is it possible for them to have a much lower budget in s9 than they had in let's say s1?? I mean in s1 they shoot at multiple different locations and this season we haven't seen anything outside the studio pretty much... The show is more established now so I don't understand how they can have less money???

7:21 THIS WAS ME haha 😅, I mentioned a few eps ago like again it's so true especially for Canadian or non uk viewers who won't know Freya from being in junior Eurovision, atleast have a talking head explaining who she is just like dytto was in season 6 by Michelle and Emily lol. alishea always gets it spot on with her reactions because mine literally reflected hers when I was watching it 😭 i was not happy with eldon just literally letting grace have a second chance, like after episode 17, you'd think that he would actually think before making rash decisions but no. also does he not remember what Amanda did to TNS when he was in a troupe, so surely him being older and more wiser (I use that word loosely), you'd think that he would shut that idea down, especially as they still haven't even referenced the fact that she's still on b troupe, which tbh I even forgot at times because we haven't seen b troupe at all in season 9. yeah the so called power trio also gave me zero percent club vibes like just cringey but also why was the focus just on this 540 for jett, and actually i went on the TNS wiki page and on the errors for the episode, it said that jett has performed a 540 before lol. I HATED how they did alternates like that's the one thing abt season 7 that they did good was actually have alternate auditions which is the fairest way. Anthony clearly doesn't have eyes at the back of his head or he didn't even check the camera system in the studio to see who was committed and who wasn't, but its just convenient and just so happens that when he walked into the locker room he saw Ethan on his phone and that's how he decided like what 😭 I still have zero clue how the dances look like for internationals because there's been no rehearsals or prep and there's 4 episodes to go of the season 💀 nick MIA as per usual, and the Freya plot makes sense but like you said I was on the assumption that Anthony was temporary dance captain just until kenzie came back like did she give up her spot, I need to go back and check 😭 idek what to think of pascale like I guess they didn't want to make her "evil" or "scheming" because it would then just be a copy of Ella from season 3, but it still would have been a little different in a way and it would have been more effective than camille who we barely know or even Presley because she still resents tns. cbbc's socials has just been awful let's be fr 😭 for this season like the only thing I genuinely enjoyed was the 10 year anniversary clips with Brittany Raymond, Alex Chaves and briar etc where they were reacting to their iconic scenes, but other than that it's not been great like releasing clips in random orders and it's a little messy ngl, like I do like how they are only releasing 2 eps a week which keeps us going for longer, but the social media side needs some fixing 😭 overall not a great episode and someone even mentioned a lot of plot holes like zero explanation of what happened with ultra elite 💀 nonetheless, 4 more eps to go and I have lots of thoughts of episode 19 so excited for your reaction ☺️

Also did they really forget that someone out there almost cost the team everything by someone sending them a letter pretending to be the internationals board!? I have been watching some of the older episodes recently, the bond and storyline with Eldon, James and West there's just nothing like that now, and some of the girls like Giselle, piper, Riley. The story lines have completely changed and I have also found there's no where near as much dancing in these latest seasons! I wish they would bring back more dancing and more bond between groups like what I mentioned at the start

Complaints about this ep: - Why was Anthony considering Jett for alternate in the first place because she was struggling for her 540? Why was Jett getting her 540 so integral to her not becoming an alternate - in that case, if not being able to do a specific move means someone's an alternate, why not make Piper alternate in season 6 for not being able to get her aerial? - Pete is a hardcore simp LOL - Why do we still have no idea what dances are at internationals, apart from duets, large group, and soloist? On that same note are Pascale and Ariana going to improv their solos because they literally have not rehearsed a single count of eight. - Is the entirety of Internationals this year just France vs Canada? If so, how was that decided? Were they the two top scoring Nationals teams in the world? Or this season 9 just the first round of Internationals and season 10 is REALLY where the rest of Internationals is? - Why was Kenzie hyped as series lead, only to be in like four episodes lol

Honestly there were so many things that annoyed me in this episode. First of all, like u said, why are they picking alternates this far into the season?? Have they just been rehearsing their group dances with 11 people (and potentially 12 when kenzie was there) this whole time knowing they would have to take someone off the dances, meaning that spacing would need to completely change and also partnering? And just like every other season where they pick alternates their reasoning behind them makes no sense. If someone is unreliable kick them off the team dont make them someone who should learn all the dances so they are ready at all times to potentially replace someone in a dance. But ig maybe they just wanna be consistent. Also i think kenzie shouldve been chosen as alternate as soon as she was shipped off to france. Like that would be the most logical choice. Secondly, eldon rlly annoyed me this episode. Why is he trusting grace so quickly? I thought in the episode with michelle he acknowledged that he made mistakes and would try to be better. But ig not. And i honestly had the same reaction when he made grace assistant. Its clear that theyre giving her this title so that she has responsibility over the team so she can eventually mess with them even more. But it just seems so forced and the only reason shes got this position was bc she got a dress? Also i dont understand how she got that within a day, maybe even a few hrs. Alsooo why are they making so many kids in this show be leaders and making them do stuff that the adults should be doing? Even if she is above 18 it doesnt seem like she has much experience and not to mention loyalty. There were also a few small things in this episode that bugged me. Like why were ariana, adele and olive just staring at the dress? Couldnt one of them just at least said "wow its so pretty"? Another thing is that im sad that heath hasnt rlly had much screentime these last few episodes. Besides kenzie hes the most senior member of the team so i wish he was more relevent this season. Another thing is that we dont know who will be in the small group and we havent seen them rehearse any of their dances besides the duet. I understand them not wanting to spoil the choreo but at least show us like 20 seconds of a couple dances and i dont think that would be an issue. I also think that the reason theyre being kinda secretive abt the internationals dances is because theres gonna be twists that they dont want us to know abt. For example we know that kenzie and heath are both in dances with french people. (From the trailer) But the thing is the actual characters dont know these twists are coming either so just have them form a small group even if they dont end up performing it at internationals. Also a lot of the dances that theyve done this season have felt kinda pointless to me so they couldve easily replaced them with rehearsals which wouldve been good for the actors too because thats less dances that they need to learn as well.

Like someone else has already said, from a plot point of view it feels rather convenient to have Grace as Eldon's assistant just so she can mess with TNS at internationals. Also, if internationals wasn’t being held at the studio how would Grace be able to intervene. Did Grace know right from the beginning that it would be a studio vs studio competition this year? I guess it would have been more similar to Amanda in S2 with stopping the next step from getting to the team.

I feel like TNS has had a problem for the last two seasons of wasting time when it comes to dances, like, we'll get some dancing in studio A just for the sake of it but not any rehearsals and personally I'd like the latter because it's then more satisfying seeing it in nationals etc. We've seen them drill it, change it and performed on stage, it FEELS better

After watching episode 17 and still being bitter over the secret (how do they go to internationals when they came second at nationals??) that the writers gave Pascal, I came up with my own. What if Remi, like your idea in last episode, is using Ebby to get intell on the Next Step to make sure team France wins, but at the same time Pascal is trying to get closer to Heath by telling him this fake secret. Maybe Heath and Pascal will get together and she'll break his heart before he has to go on stage, so he'll be distracted while performing.

Yeah it’s strange to see how much TNS has become so much more orientated around the UK audience. I feel like CBBC and UK audience has really driven the desire for more seasons. You can tell too with the inclusion of Freya in this season. Yes, I’m an older viewer from the UK, who started watching TNS when it first aired on CBBC 10 years ago (I’m a similar age to Alishea) and so I’m not really the targeted audience but I don’t even really know who Freya is besides having been the UK junior Eurovision contestant last year I think it was

Camille being Grace’s accomplice will make sense after you have all watched the next episode. That being said. This is the second lot of episodes where we need to watch the follow up one for it to make sense. It happened already with the Eldon eps 😏😬

Oh yeah. The first time I was watching Jett trying to perfect the dance move in this episode I was thinking that it looked like a b-twist but without the full “twist” part. I think this was just an error then as someone else has pointed out that Jett literally did a 540 in her a-troupe audition 😂

Sorry alishea but you mentioned that your not a fan of them not rehearsing and it being off screen but it’s always been like that only season 1 actually showed the dances before hand whereas the rest of the seasons have always had amazing dances on the day with no rehearsing

S2 we saw them rehearsing unsinkable and jileys duet etc, s3 we saw them do the small group. S4 noah and richelle practised their duet, and they rehearsed the small group and the trio. Those are just the ones off the top of my head but we haven't seen anything concrete this season 😂
