Okay, after watching the podcast with them and listening to all the music here's my take; Cari really thought they were meant to be and would eventually get married and be together forever BUT she also wanted to live her life and chase her dream and felt too young to commit, hoping, like REALLY hoping that Shannon would wait for her and if Shannon found someone in the meantime, they would just be a seat filler (she literally says this in 'Ego Talking'). Ultimately it was a fatal miscalculation of someone who was very young and it's going to haunt her the rest of her life. It's obviously haunted her for the past four years. The question is, does she still feel they're end game? Has she really let it go? And if they do both move on and eventually settle with other people, will she consider it the biggest mistake of her life?

It's unfair to expect that even from someone who clearly loves you a lot. And I think she knows that and hence the conflicting emotions. I'm just glad that they are in a much better place. I hope Shannon stops looking for love with girls who are still trying to figure themselves out. I hope she finds someone mature enough to know what kind of life she wants and I hope it aligns with what Shannon wants too. I hope Fletcher finds someone willing to spend time with her in all of her adventures and all of her phases.
