Puss In Boots isn't just a reference to Zorro, he's played by Antonio Banderas, the same actor who played Zorro in the 1998 movie 'Mask Of Zorro'. Not so important here, but further down the line it will be. 12:41 - I'll go into detail when the character is properly revealed, but all the clues to who he is are already there. 14:53 - Okay, here's the lowdown. Puss in Boots is, of course, the famous fairy tale character. Now I went through most of my childhood not knowing this story other than a reference, but all you need to know is that Puss is a cat that outsmarted and killed an ogre (hence his rep here are an ogre slayer). Puss is voiced by Spanish heartthrob Antonio Banderas, most well known for Desperado, but also the star of The Mask of Zorro and it's sequel The Legend of Zorro. Puss' characterization draws heavily from that role. 21:50 - This is what you get for talking through the exposition. The text on the potion bottle was vague and cryptic, but the one thing it clearly said was that it affected it's imbiber AND their loved one. 23:56 - Apparently he's swearing at Donkey and it roughly translates as 'Hey, you four-legged sack of meat! How dare you through me off!' 33:47 - So in case you missed it, Fiona's dad is the frog from The Frog Prince. Fairy Godmother turned him human so he could marry Fiona's mom, in exchange for wedding his firstborn daughter to Charming. Coincidentally (or perhaps not), one of John Cleese's parts in Monty Python and the Holy Grail was the peasant who claimed that the accused witch turned him into a newt. So did you guys stick around for the post-credits scene with Donkey and Dragon? If not you should go back and watch it. There is no official imagery of what Dragon became when Donkey took the Happily Ever After potion, but popular theory is that she became a Pegasus.

Foreshadowing about the King in the conversation after the (disaster) dinner with the Queen. Also Shrek deserved better, The King was openly hostile from the beginning, the Queen was a little too quiet and Fiona doesn't understand. Shrek has faced discrimination all his life, he even leaned into it so he could live alone and in peace, he rescued Fiona then he fell in love with her and married her, he had a good life which was completely turned upside down for HER. I have a theory on the fairy godmother. I think she’s the one that gave Fiona her curse. I think Harold owed Fairy Godmother because she turned him human so that he can be with Lillian, who is royalty. Harold didn’t come through with his end of the bargain, so this was her way of getting revenge on both Harold and Lillian and to make matters “better” for her, make her son king. It’s shown that she can be very smart and cunning. Also can we talk about how they put so much time and effort into these jokes? They hit bullseye every time! I love this movie!
