On the sesotho part, I think it would have made greater sense if you wrote sotho since that part includes all sotho languages. ( sesotho, setswana, sepedi)

@TshepisoMagomane The stanza is in Sesotho, all of it.
@TshepisoMagomane Жыл бұрын
@lebo5281 fact remains, all three are included there. We can go word for word and see. The difference is 0.0001. If you can ask each member of the 3, they will probably tell you they sing it based on their own language . Mosotho: Morena boloka sechaba sa heso. Motswana: Morena boloka setshaba sa heso. Mopedi: Morena boloka setšhaba sa gešo.
@lebo5281 Жыл бұрын
@TshepisoMagomane No. The fact that we can all understand the stanza does not mean it was written in our languages, the pronunciation too, is a guide. We would have probably chosen different words even, if this stanza was indeed written in Setswana.

Dude, thank you so so much for highlighting South Africa and the beauty of our country. Rugby has brought our nation together in a way nothing else has. As you probably know by now, our country still has many social and economic challenges but I have not experienced anything in recent times that has warmed my heart as much and made my day as amazing as seeing an american football player showing so much interest and love for our country and the sport of rugby. I subbed after watching only 1 of your videos. I'm sure there are many South Africans who have watched your videos who are willing to assist you with any questions you have about rugby, and I am one of them. So reach out any time man. AMERICA needs a rugby team dog! Your country is filled with extremely tough men and I know without even thinking much about it that the US can become a leading rugby nation but it needs someone like you with the passion you already have for our game to make it happen! I think you have what it takes man! You are so right when you say its a tough sport, for real men. The hits these boys take match after match and be ready for another battle in as little as a week, like when they compete in the rugby world cup (ongoing at the moment), is truly astounding. And a lot of our boys have professional careers exceeding 10 years! The Boks are competing against England in the semi-finals of the 2023 Rugby World Cup on Saturday 21 October '23 at 9pm GMT+2. Its going to be a very tough encounter because England is looking good at the moment, but I have all the faith that our boys can go to the final where we will more than likely be up against New Zealand. And boy oh boy, is that going to be something. Both South Africa and New Zealand have won the trophy 3 times, more than any other teams competing, by a long shot. So all things point to a stunning final if we beat England this saturday. New Zealand is arguably the most dangerous team in the world when it comes to rugby. They are unpredictable and I have seen them win matches coming out from half time with a huge score deficit and win the match. So they can never ever be underestimated. Again thank you so much for bring a foreighner's "freshmen" perspective to the game. God bless!

@@FREEDOMCHASERSLIFE Another thing I forgot to mention, and not sure if you know this. But due to the apartheid era South Africa was banned from competing in the 1st and 2nd world cup tournaments, 1987 and 1991. Apartheid was a horrible injustice by the then governments, but the Boks were arguably at their very best during those times.

Our national flag and anthem came about in a very short time because we needed to acknowledge that our country entering it's new era iof peace and reconciliation was the sum of all it's people - hence the national anthem consists of a traditional African hymn and part of the previous national anthem. The national flag itself was designed in a week by one man a few days it was always meant as an interim design for the new govt but it sort of grew on all of us. A complicated country we live in, but I would live anywhere else.

She's the lead singer from a group called "Freshly Ground". And that guy with his eyes closed is the Captian. There are several languages used in the Anthem and they are not all just versions of the English part. I would recommend googling what each verse means. ❤ thank you for saying such nice things about our Anthem and Country. Couldn't be more proud🇿🇦

The singer, in what looks to be Xhosa traditional wear, is the great Xolani Mahola, the lead vocalist of the band Freshly Ground (unfortunately they are no longer active, a real shame because their music is amazing). The "guy with his eyes closed" is our rugby national captain. Siya Kholisi, who will lead our team later tonight in the quarter final of the rugby world cup. I know you are going to watch it

The singeress was part of a band called Freshlyground for a long time. The first stanza was in Xhösä, her pronunciation was perfect. It's a hymn asking for God, the Holy Trinity's assistance. It's a prayer asking for God's mercy and also thanking God for the beauty of the varied geography of the country of South Äfricä and the final part in English is of course about all South Äfricäns standing united to strive for freedom🕊🕊🕊. ☦📜⛑👑✝

@@arhadi-mt3fs I've noticed that they are trying to erase our language. Basically everything they now hear in Xhosa is Zulu. I don't even think they know who wrote that national anthem. It was two great Xhosa visionaries in Enoch Sontonga and S.E.K Mqhayi. I think the English inflated their egos too much and it was deliberate( that's the story for another time!!!)

I always choke up singing our anthem, it is very powerful song. The bearded gent with his eyes closed is Siya Kholisi, the captain of the Springboks. He (and the whole team) always sings with great emotion. Before our first match of the World Cup, Siya had tears on his cheeks during the anthem.

the languages of our anthem is isiXhosa (Xhosa) which is the first 2 lines, isiZulu (Zulu), seSotho (Sotho, pronounced Soo-too), Afrikaans and English in that order for the verses

Dunno if someone commented this below, but the other thing I love about the anthem is that (like the national flag), if a combination of a prayer song which was sung during the struggle (apartheid) era by Black people, who wanted freedom, peace and protection. The Afrikaans and English parts are kept from the old regime's anthem. The anthem is a living memory that once as a nation we were divided, but then came together for a new harmony. (The flag retained the red, white and blue of the old Dutch & English regimes, and added the black, green and gold which were the colours of the PAC and ANC).

Nkosi Sikelel'iAfrika by Enoch Sontonga. Morena boloka by Moses Mphahlele. It's a very spiritual song. Fun fact: even though it was written by a South African it was adopted by many Bantu countries as a national anthem post colonialism. South Africa was the last country to adopt it as a national anthem post Apartheid. You can call it a Bantu national cry to The Most High 😁 You should play Nkosi Sikelel'iAfrika and Morena Boloka with subtitles to get the meaning of the song
