To answer your question "Thunderous" in Korean is "sorikkun" a term that refers generally to a singer, usually of traditional Korean music forms. Bang Chan explained, "The message of the song is that Stray Kids, as sorikkun, will face off against the jansorikkun (naggers) and confidently let loose our sound." Seungmin also said "The meaning is something like, ‘Life isn’t easy because of the naggers who tell us to do this and that, but we’re Stray Kids and we’re not backing down." This song was released after SKZ won Kingdom, a famous kpop performance competition. Since they won it with such a huge gap between them and the others groups, SKZ became way more confident on their music cause they saw how much stays actually love their music and when you read the lyrics you can tell it indeed shows. As for the choreo, Lee Know added the key point of their choreography is the hand gesture that expresses how they’ll confidently spit out everything they want to say such as the "mouth move" they make with their arms to express a laugh, laugh at their haters. "I'm becoming a stay" hahaha welcome to stayville 😂❤ It's the typical SKZ song that's why most ppl recommend it first. Love how this time around u played it two times to know the lyrics i really appreciate ur efforts ! The lyrics are dedicated fully to their haters. You probably don't know it but Stray Kids aren't appreciated in their country. They have way more international fans than korean ones. People said since their debut they make "too loud/too noisy music" so Changbin came with the playword "NOEASY" (= noisy) for their album's title meaning it's not easy to be called noisy. In Thunderous (the title track of NOEASY), they're showing how they won't change their style to please people who aren't used to their unique vibes, even calling themselves "the thunderous ones" imo it's the best way to show what truly matters to them, here to make music that represent who they're ^^

Fun facts. On live stage, Felix is holding Han's mike while he is doing the hand gestures. So they were clever in incorporating it into the choreography from the beginning. Changbin changed the opening for the live stages as well. New STAYs though he was saying his name was Oh Changbin, so he changed it to Seo Changbin. And he asks the audience what his name is before they start the performance. 😄 They have so much fun on stage. If you see fancams, they are pulling faces at each other, smacking each others butts (Lee know's specialty) and all sorts if things that show they are truly enjoying what they do. Besides all the traditional instruments, they have included so much Korean mythology and folk lore. Quite a few of the songs on the NOEASY album were a middle-finger to the haters. Cheese, Domino, Thunderous. If you watch the dance practice, both Thunderous and God's Menu have a SKZOO version that is hilarious. It is also fun to watch the dance practice and the Relay versions, where they have so much fun.

gosh that song is just epic! the fact that they turned the opinion of haters that they are "too noisy" into a even noisier song is brilliant! they included traditional korean instruments in the song and the MV is also inspired by traditional korean culture. That high-pitched "cymbal" sound that caught your attention is a traditional Korean gong called a kkwaenggwari (꽹과리). The bulk of the prominent instrumentation in this track is made up of traditional Korean folk instruments, including the different drums, different gongs, and winds. Thunderous was deliberately made to include multiple traditional elements -- in the clothing, the setting, the story, the different folk dancers/performers, the track/instrumentation, even part of the rap flow. The Korean name of the song refers to a sorikkun, a type of traditional Korean vocalist. (The word "sorikkun" is translated as "thunderous" for non-Korean lyrical usage, but they're actually two entirely different words and meanings; directly translating the Korean term would have lacked impact in other languages because of lack of context.) To demonstrate the point of the song -- clapping back at being dismissed as making "noise music" and hated on for not sounding mainstream/traditional/"Korean enough" -- the Korean title and lyrics reference an iconic traditional Korean performer whose title can literally be translated to something like "noise master." And then they made a banger using mostly traditional Korean instruments that have been used in the most quintessentially traditional Korean music and performances for centuries. In other words, it's another layer of clapback: "You complain about how noisy and 'not Korean' we are...so we're gonna give you an entire song titled after traditional Korean artists famous for being masters of noise. We politely invite you to stfu with your ignorance." The second bit of Changbin's rap in the beginning (when he's holding a fan) is modeled after the traditional pansori style of a sorikkun's performance. Traditional instruments of numerous types, from several traditional performance styles, are worked into the track, and by the end they're the dominant instrumentation. The red outfits, the animation, and the story (the in-video story, not the overall SKZ lore, of which the events in this video are just a small, metaphorical continuation) are all about the members being dokkaebi (powerful Korean folklore goblins) coming down from their lairs to lead a revolution by declaring themselves the thunderous ones (again with the "noisy") and winning a sorikkun competition (the postings on that public board announce the competition) while defeating the "villains" and "jansorikkun" (naggers/naysayers) who throw hate at them and oppose new voices. The NOEASY album is a thematic clapback. The first four songs (Cheese, Thunderous, Domino, and Ssick) are direct clapbacks with lyrics to that effect -- and as the intro song, Cheese is a direct diss track. Then come songs in a wide range of genres/styles to perform the clapback via demonstrating their versatility, while also serving as a reminder that they're human beings on the receiving end of the hate. Then it ends with Wolfgang, which returns to the "noise" style their antis hate on them for but which performs its clapback through the lyrics that talk about them as a group bonding together to become a pack -- a family -- and survive and thrive against outside forces.

As for kkwaenggwari/꽹과리, it's basically per the romanization ("kkwaenggwari"), but as is common in most languages, the actual practical usage slurs things together rather than cleanly pronouncing each separate bit. So it kind of sounds like...I dunno, "gwen-ga-ri," with only a very slight inclusion of the first "w" sound and basically no inclusion of the second one. I found a traditional Korean music teacher demonstrating a kkwaenggwari, and he says the word at around 00:10, 00:13, 00:22, 00:32 (and multiple times afterward, but I figured the first four would be enough): kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIWbeYp6gJqVeLc _I have no idea if you'll be interested in the rest of this comment, but I already have it typed out, so I'll just include it, and then you'll have it if you want it or can simply ignore it if it's not something you're interested in._ There are actually quite a few teachers and folk performers with yt content about kkwaenggwari and many other of the traditional instruments used in Thunderous. And watching almost any of the content will instantly tell you why SKZ calling themselves sorikkun and the Thunderous Ones and shaping this entire song around traditional Korean music is SO spot-on. Because it's all noisy, and beautifully so. Searching "samulnori"/"samul nori" (사물놀이) will get you the primary traditional percussion instruments from Thunderous, which are the two gongs and two drums used in pungmul (풍물) performances: kwaenggwari (꽹과리), janggu (장구), buk (북), and jing (징). (Further elements of pungmul can be seen in Thunderous in those dancers who are leaping and spinning and twirling things, btw.) Since this is traditional Korean content, plenty of it isn't romanized, so you'll get a better pool of results if you separately search both the romanized terms and the Hangeul terms (the Korean characters I included with each romanized name). To get you started (if you decide to actually go to the trouble of looking into all of this), here's a short samulnori performance I like because 1] the jing/징 player put aside her jing (the larger gong), picked up her kwaenggwari, and then basically went ham on a kwaenggwari duet with the usual kwaenggwari player, and they were having a blast. And 2] because once a drummer, always a drummer -- people banging on instruments will always make me happy. @@atgnireactions5343 now that I'm further in, I can't remember the name of the instrument they use that you asked about, but this song includes a lot of traditional Korean instruments, and you're hearing one they used to replace standard hi hats. And yeah, Thunderous (and the song Cheese) are both clap back songs. The biggest complaint they get is that they're too loud. So their title track is called Thunderous, (which is a loud sound) and filled with loud rapping, loud instruments, the whole nine. Welcome to being a STAY. :)

The thunderous ones, i have an explanation for this one. Usually, their haters call them the noisy ones and thunder is like this too. Immediately after the flash, the air cools and contracts quickly. This rapid expansion and contraction creates the sound wave that we hear as thunder. Saying they're the thunderous ones it's almost like saying "when i go somewhere you can hear me because I have presence and charisma, I'm loud and noisy but in a good way proof is that you noticed me" so it's like they reverse the bad comment into something very positive. It shows they're confident in what they do musically.

The Kids may have songs that are not in your lane but they will have songs that you like and they are all immaculately produced. They also have one of the best MVs in Kpop. This one has a lot of Korean instruments that are mistaken for synths. Seorikkun is not a direct translation. It means more of a sound master/master singer than thunderous. Most translators translate it as a singer but souri is a Korean song-tale accompanied by drums and kkun is a master of its craft (I am not Korean but I've done my reaserch)

I've heard a couple of different translations for the Korean word that was translated as thunderous, but I do know that they added kun at the end of the original word, and that is something that is attached to indicate that the person is really good at that. They are saying that they are experts at it.

"Sorikkun" is, more specifically, a pansori singer, and considering the history of pansori it's... a very good way to present themselves. Pansori was a popular form of entertainment, mostly liked by peasants and transmitted through oral tradition, long before the Korean elite took any interest in it. So by presenting themselves as "Sorikkun" Stray Kids aren't just showing pride in their Korean heritage, they're also kinda saying to people who do not like their music, that they're old-fashioned snobs.

The first time I randomly clicked on a SKZ video, all the sounds and visuals short circuited my brain and allowed me to stop and just relax and focus on the song alone. It is something that has never happened before when listening to music. That made me do a deep dive and the more I heard and learned, the more I adored them. I am a hard core Stay and love watching people discover them. The respect you are showing in your videos is incredible and we all appreciate it. If you like the interesting sounds, you may want to check out Venom which has a main sound happening that is very addictive and original. For Hype Song check out Victory Song, Superboard and District 9 For a summer rock vibe try Time Out and watch the outtakes at the end for some laughter For dance tracks Case 143, Domino (dance practice as there isn't a full video) Cheese is a diss track that they have a lot of fun with responding to the things people say about them. Melodic Neverending Story (also called the Story That Doesn't End. This is my favorite song and trust me watch the live version which does have English subtitles. It was just after Woojin left and you can clearly see how it affected them.) It’s not all of stray kids but it’d be really cool to see you watch Hyunjin’s dance covers. He’s done one to ‘when the party’s over’ Billie Eilish and ‘play with fire’ then his artist over the month ‘motley crew’ dance video (specifically that one) it just showcases his power and talent immensely. They’re so impressive to watch and he used them to express himself and his feelings as he’s said he finds he struggles to do it with words. Loved the in depth reaction and I don't mind pausing, so don't feel bad doing that ^^ Thunderous is what got me into SKZ so I'm always happy when people react to it and have the same experience because it's such a fire song! Also; if you're curious about the mv, I'd definitely recommend Jordan Orme's channel. He's an editor and does amazing breakdowns of storylines in mvs and he mostly reacts to kpop! My personal recommendations from their most recent album, Maxident, that I think you'd like: - Case 143, the title song from their most recent CB, is a fun quirky lovesong in skz colors (meaning not your typical kpop lovesong) - Superboard, really nice baseline with way too much fun adlibs and it's chorus will not get out of your head for the next 48 hours (gotta be honest though because I've seen mixed reactions. You either love it or hate it) - Give Me Your TMI, the unveil (sneak peak before release) went viral on twitter for the description "that fnaf (five nights at freddy's) type beat". eventually being retweeted by The Living Tombstone (makers of FNAF OST) - 3racha, drilltrack with 3racha being proud of their achievements as producers ft Chan's Aussie rap. Unfortunately does not have a mv, but there are a lot of high definition fancams when they performed it at their latest Unveil concert in Seoul I'd like to name more, but I don't want to flood and I've seen some great recommendations already in the other comments ^^

The lyrics and their double (or triple) meenigs are so clever and relateable. But I don't have to tell you how incredible these guys are. I watched your guide-reaction. I just finished watching your guide reaction and now this, and I honestly love finding genuine reactors who really show interest in what they watch!! I'm happy to watch your journey as a baby stay!! This song specifically was my intro to Stray Kids so seeing people reacting to it is really fun to me :D I wanna make a recommendation but you can go at your own pace of course! This is something you can honestly watch on your own time off camera, it's just a good way to get to know SKZ: So, every time the kids (It's the term stays use to refer to SKZ! It's how Chan refers to them as well!) release an album they also release an 'intro' which is basically a video of them talking about each track, how it was written, recorded, how they learned the choreo, etc... They even show some of the process. I think you would really enjoy those! Since Thunderous is part of the album 'Noeasy', the kids talk about how they wrote the song and do a deeper dive on its meaning in the intro for the album it's in! For songs, I wanna recommend my personal favorites like 'Cheese' which is another diss towards haters like Thunderous, 'Secret Secret' which is a song written by Han about his struggles with mental health (it's my favorite SKZ song in general and the song that made Han my bias!), and lastly #LoveSTAY which is a gift from SKZ to Stays released on December 31st of 2021. It was written by Hyunjin, Felix and I.N and it's honestly such a beautiful song that also shows off every member's vocal abilities! (Prepare tissues for Secret Secret and LoveSTAY if you end up listening to them because they are VERY emotional songs). Love to see the start of your skz journey! I’ll add my recs to the growing list :D for vocal performances: never ending story, secret secret, anything on first take (also seungmin and Han on Lee mujin!). For dance: domino and easy dance practices are two of my favs but anything they do is great. The relay dances are also really fun! (Also any of hyunjins solo releases - artist of the month, when the party’s over, and play with fire are incredible dance vids). For discography, they have vids for most of their releases so you can just make your way through chronologically if that’d be easier to manage (I’m here for the journey!) but I’ll also put in a word for their most recent comeback case 143. It’s not necessarily as impactful as some other releases but it has everything I love about skz in it - it’s creative, surprising, has great storytelling and interesting approaches in the MV, a fun sense of humor, and it’s entirely them. One of the great things about SKZ's music is what great lyricists they are, writing songs about much deeper topics such as mental health, peer pressure, fear of the future, artistic slumps, following your own path at your own pace, unhealthy addiction to your work, being authentic to your genuine self. All very common themes in some of their more lyrical songs. The one downside for me is that I don't speak Korean fluently, nor do I pick up on some of the cultural references. So the translations are excellent, but there are some lines that are impossible to fully understand at a first listen without doing some research on Korean parables, idioms, folk-lore and such. Thunderous is a great example of this, heavily inspired by Korean folk-lore, specifically the 도깨비 (Korean goblins). The goblins are depicted as tricksters who might help you or harm you, and their power is depicted as blue flames. The use of the colors black and red, as well as the blue fire are both references to that myth. They even said that the little bits of hair they have sticking up are supposed to be representative of goblins horns. Because of the word play with "Sorikkun" meaning both Thunderous but also being a term of a kind of traditional Korean singer, some of the posters in the music video seem to imply some sort of challenge being offered to compete in singing. Which i think is supposed to essentially be like a face off between SKZ and the naysayers. There's definitely more to it than that, but that's my best knowledge of it at the moment! There are lots of wonderful people who make full lyrical breakdowns of their songs, walking us through all the little word plays and references that are impossible to catch if you aren't familiar with the Korean language.

This MV is inspired by korean culture and mythology and as you noticed, this song is a total diss track against SKZ haters. It was the title track for their album NOEASY which is a play of word between not easy and noisy. A lot of their haters say that SKZ music is noisy and is not real music or think it's too experimental so this track is just them saying that they don't give a f. The second track they released from this album is Cheese and it's also a diss track. You should really listen to it. Also, after you listen to Easy, Back door, Venom and Side Effects, I recommend you District 9 which is their debut, Double Knot and Victory Song. And of course you're welcome to the fandom ! I think that's awesome they took Korean Culture and used it to inspire the track! I also CANNOT STOP listening to it at the moment. I love how you are approaching these reactions. If you want a fun thing at the end of songs, I suggest either a dance practice, or a relay dance. Relay dances are fun. SKZ have so much fun with those. And the dance practices show how much choreography is cut from their awesome MVs.

Congrats, you're a baby Stay now. At the end of Chan's room Chan always thanks 'stays and baby stays', you're one of us now. Tbh SKZ songs where they clap back at something are some of my favourites because whilst they are all lovely people they also know their own worth and will state it. Cheese is one of my favourites, it was the opener to their Noeasy album and a pretty tongue in cheek response to haters, their MAMA performance of Victory Song was also epic, I believe that was the year God's Menu didn't get nominated despite being huge, and they were invited to perform short notice to help launch kingdom so naturally performed Victory Song in an extremely cool way. Both the sound and the choreography of this video feel much more theatrical (and “epic”!) than some of their MVs. Because of that, I think you might also really like their live stage performance of “God’s Du-du Du-du-du” at Kingdom competition. They leave NOTHING on the table, and it’s amazing! Also, you seem to have a great appreciation for both thumping bass and outstanding vocals, which makes me believe you might really enjoy ATEEZ. If you’re interested, see what you think of their MV for “Guerilla”. I think you’ll love it!

I love how they turned the song into an actual hurricane, that is how thunderous sound to me. The buildup happens and suddenly the wind and rain and everything collides into a big storm and then Felix's part is when you think the storm has subsided but it is just smoldering and then it happens again. 소리 (sori) means noise in korean. 꾼(kkun) is what you add to a word to make it known that that is what you're good at. that's your profesion and it describes you. so 소리꾼 (sorikkun) is them saying they are noisy and with the rest of the lyrics you can understand that they don't care about haters and that they know they're better than them in a way. "i'm not sorry i'm dirty. keep on talking we don't play by the rules" says it all. also NOEASY(no easy/noisy) it all connects.

I love your reactions. It is so wholesome to watch how you genuinely fall for their charms. I would also recommend you react to their Street Ver. MVs (for example Questions, Boxer or N/S) as it is them just goofing around and having fun in allys/parks. If you want to learn about what goes on behind the scenes for the albums check out the Intro Vid for each album. Its a bop but as warning the members are really embarrassed by the lyrics as they wrote it at a very young age. Omg I love this so much, the song and the beat is so catchy and I love the raps and vocals. For me Felix (my bias) just slayed his part. The choreo is on point like always and I'm just in love with the entire thing words can't begin to describe how I'm feeling about this song.
