Reacting to STRAY KIDS "Victory Song" MAMA 2020

stray kids' performances at the MAMA awards are on another level, I recommend their last performance of 2022, it was spectacular!! 🔥🔥🔥

I commented on your other "Victory Song" reaction, but I'm not sure you saw it. There is a back story to this performance in 2020, which will help you understand why it's such a ferocious performance...... In 2020, the MAMA awards did not nominate Stray Kids for any awards at all, despite SKZ having a hugely successful year, setting sales records, having several hit songs, etc. It was a complete snub. But......MNet (the company that puts together the MAMA awards) was going to broadcast the KINGDOM: Legendary War K-pop competition show early the next year (2021), and they wanted a lot of publicity for it. They planned to do a lot of advertising during the 2020 MAMA awards, but they wanted as many people to watch the awards show as possible so they needed big headliners to perform, to draw a larger audience and get more interest in the KINGDOM show. Despite having snubbed SKZ for any awards, MNet asked them to perform at the MAMA awards as part of their publicity campaign for KINGDOM. So.....Stray Kids said to themselves......well, if they're asking us to perform, we're going to do it our way. And we're going to do it BIG. They chose "Victory Song" as the song they would perform. But they rearranged the music / theme as a SPARTA / 300 theme, and racheted the "attitude" up really high as a sort of "EFF YOU" to MNet. At the end, you saw Hyunjin pick up the crown. The crown represents the KINGDOM show, which Stray Kids ended up winning a few months later.

Just to add to this brilliantly informative post. MAMA informed Stray Kids that they wanted them to perform last minute, they had something like a week or two to get this performance together, including the arrangement, choreo, costuming, props, everything! Also the weaponry that they use was said to be super heavy (I think the choreographer or one of the dancers mentioned the limited time and props in a social media post). This was actually part of a larger performance structure, so The Boys and Ateez also performed before SKZ and after Hyunjin took the crown, there is a dance performance with one member of The Boys, Hyunjin and a member of Ateez to finish off the Kingdom: Legendary War promotional stage. That’s why there are two hooded figures in the background that are blacked out, they are the ‘god’ like figures that were illuminated during the other groups performances just like the figure with the shield was illuminated for SKZ. Also the other groups performed two songs each and they were (I think, please correct me if I’m wrong) their latest/very popular songs at the time, I’m not sure if they had more time to prepare than SKZ or not. So the fact that SKZ chose ‘Victory Song’ was an even bigger FU to MAMA because they used a bside track from a part EP! Not a title track, not a track from a full album, not a track from their latest album but a bside from a smaller past album that, unless you were a stay, would likely not have been heard by many people and thus would’t be considered a popular track! And yet they delivered a kick ass performance on par (possibly even better than, but that’s up to your own personal taste) with the performances from Ateez and The Boys! They are such Kings! S Also if you hadn’t realised, we Stay (and many other fandoms) do not like the award show organisers, especially MAMA. There tends to be a shadiness to their organisation of these events, plus the quality of camera work, picture quality and audio quality are rather dubious for the end of year shows which for such big events you’d think they would upgrade their equipment and learn how to produce better quality broadcasts but every year fans are disappointed in some way or another. Also reality shows that Mnet produce also seem to have some kind of problem or shady stuff going on too, for instance during kingdom: legendary war, during the first full on performances 3 groups were informed of a limit to the amount of money the group could use on their performance where as 3 of the groups weren’t informed of this… yeah big mistake, and although all of the performances were brilliant you could tell that some groups had that $$ limit whilst others didn’t. And that’s just one problem that happened with the show, there were others. Mnet is also known to edit their shows in a way that causes misunderstandings, such as editing to make it look like people have beef with each other when they don’t, for example on the SKZ survival show, bang Chan seemed to be in a really bad mood and was calling Han out on not taking theirs unit performance seriously, Channie left the room and Han was confused and a bit hurt, that was the end of that episode (or segment of episode, i can’t really remember). It was later revealed by the members in one of their own shows (2 kids room) that Channie was acting, it was Han’s birthday so Chan put on the act and after leaving the room he came back in with a cake to surprise Han, but of cause the editors didn’t show that part, making the audience believe that Chan was being really strict towards the members. So yeah, that comment became more that what I’d first intended haha. Still hope the extra info helps.

Hyunjin's stage presence is unparalleled! Nobody performs like him - he completely embodies the song and the character required for each performance. He's simply phenomenal. This particular performance by SKZ is among my favorites; they were absolutely incredible!

This is a recreate of the 300 strong Spartan army of greece. Said to be the strongest army and held off thousands of Persians alone. The film 300 shows the story beautiful. But they do an impeccable job creating this into their victory song show, this was a truly stunning performance and why STAYS are here to stay. ❤

MAMA that year was completely unfair, groups won awards they did not deserve, and what? SKZ wasn't even nominated for any of the awards categories, it was really disappointing, MAMA always shows their hate for JYP groups, I don't know why, in general MAMA is one of the award shows involved in issues of tampering and changing votes. It is unbelievable that god's menu and Back Door were not nominated for any award even though they were the talk of the world at that time. Until now, I have not understood how that happened, and how MAMA rudely asked Stray Kids to perform in the show when they weren't even nominated for one award and used them as a promotional tool, and I do not know how they agreed to this and what motivated them to do so in the first place. In general, Skz gave a truly wonderful performance. Although they were not among the groups nominated for the awards, their show was the most famous show that year, and now they have gotten what they deserve. They have reached the international fame they deserved since their debut and they are receiving many major awards such as VMAs Best kpop and others

Stray Kids performed this performance after winning the legendary War of the Kingdom show. It was their special stage for the Legendary Kingdom War Prize after they won first place ,Hyunjin was excluded due to false rumors that surfaced against him during the show. So they made him get the crown at the end of the show because they got the Kingdom War award without him. I think it's a great choice for an amazing song after their win 🤍

This performance was in 2020. Kingdom was in 2021. They performed at MAMA without even being nominated for anything because Mnet wanted to advertise the show making them, Ateez and The Boys perform. They did all the crown stuff because of other reasons, since hyunjin would be on hiatus months after this performance.

Stray Kids have songs made for STAYs too. I recommend that you check these songs in order. They sang these songs during fan meetings and STAYs love these songs so much 1) Grow Up 2) You Can STAY 3) #LoveSTAY (this song dropped out of nowhere as a Year End gift for STAYs on 30 Dec 2021. STAYs were so surprised and a lot of us cried listening to this song). 4) Time Out ( a rock base song as an anniversary gift for STAYs).

어제와 그제.. 일본 도쿄돔에서 열린 MAMA 2023의 무대를 보았는데.. 1년을 마무리하는 행사이고.. 수만명이 모인 큰 행사라는 것을 생각해보면 아쉬운 무대였는데.. 이 영상을 다시 보니.. 정말 팬들을 위해 정성스럽게 준비한 무대가 어떤 것인지 다시 한번 느낄 수 있네요.. 이래서 SKZ를 떠날 수 없습니다. 정말 최고입니다...

эти парни не делают ничего в "пол ноги"🔥🔥🔥 а если их пытаются задвинуть - ребята воспринимают как вызов и дают такой отпор, что только и можно открыв рот моргать, совершенно забыв как говорить😆 замечу, что видео 3 летней давности, это 2 года с дебюта.... на что они способны сейчас на этапе 5,5 летней карьеры - думаю мой мозг не в состоянии даже отдаленно представить. Их сольные концерты - шоу, которое не отпускает ни на минуту за все 3 часа. Выступление в этом году на lolopoluza в Париже, - у меня был шок от видео фанатов, где не слышно ни слова парней, потому что stay поют треки со всей душой, в том числе и партии на корейском! в том числе и новые треки, вышедшие в альбоме за 1,5 месяца до фестиваля. Меня тогда так сильно ошарашило это, что единственное на что я надеялась, что парни смогли почувствовать на сцене всю ту любовь и восторг, которую они заслуживают. Горжусь ими🤩 💥💥💥
