Sorry guys, “when I was growing up” is not a yardstick to evaluate CURRENT players. Let us not name names, but even “when we were growing up”, there were players in the Super Eagles that were poor quality. Their saving grace was that they played in the same team as the JJs, Kanus, Yekinis and Olisehs. But they were not all the same quality. But we all look back with nostalgia. We watched the team as very young people and they were like Gods. Just like our parents back then looked back and told us that team was nothing compared to the generation before ie the Odegbamis, Amiesimakas, Christian Chukwus etc. So it is all about perspective. In the future, young kids of today growing up will tell you this SE team was the best ever, naming Osimhen, Lookman, Chukwueze etc and THERE IS NOTHING YOU WILL TELL THEM that will change their minds. Finally we seem to forget that even the great JJ, the great Mikel and other legends often made excuses to avoid coming to camp, or would come very late. So the commitment is no different or worse today than it used to be. All na opinion.

Two years ago, this same Oliseh came out in an interview to say that Ndidi is better than Obi Mikel. That he will play Ndidi ahead of Mikel. I mean this is very petty and laughable statement. We all watched both players. Since Mikel retired, no player has truly laced his shoe in that midfield. I think Oliseh is very arrogant, petty and lack good temperament to succeed as a Coach. Mikel is a Nigerian football legend and nobody can dispute that. Oliseh has proven through his coaching records that he can't manage players. Since the 2013 AFCON he was with Super Sport disparaging Mikel, he harboured hate and bitterness for Mikel and Enyeama right from the onset and came with that to the Super Eagles job. Right before any match was played he had issues with Enyeama and brought police to chase Enyeama out of the camp. If Oliseh is that good as he and his minions including that person that interviewed him constantly claims and brags let him get a coaching job today. Why is he without a job for years now when claims to be good? He should stop roaming around claiming to be a FIFA official because he isnt. He does not have a job.

A coach can bench a player and that’s on period . Mikel was influential for Nigeria in his time but we cannot say that he wasn’t bad in the game . We cannot also say that there weren’t games were Mikel was below average in his time and oliseh said nothing wrong when he said Mikel couldn’t play the 10 role . Other top class managers at Chelsea all deployed him in the defensive midfield role . He wasn’t quick, wasn’t explosive enough , wasn’t very creative and didn’t have a good shooting range to be a good 10 but as a 4 breaking play he was great . You've said nothing here. Oliseh was the first to castigate Mikel right from the 2013 AFCON even before he became the coach of the Super Eagles. If Mikel had responded to his constant vitriol at him, which is not still proven then Mikel is justified. You saying Mikel couldn't play 10, did you watch Mikel at the U20 WC, Mikel was converted to a DM by Mourinho not because he couldn't play it but because the 10 role was filled up already as at the time he arrived Chelsea and he became a DM hence every other manager that came afterwards use him as that. So get your facts right. Oliseh's issue with Mikel had nothing to do with Mikel's football abilities because there is not basis for that but more of a personal vendetta same issues he had with Enyeama because if you had followed that event in 2017 you'd know that even before any match was played under Oliseh, he had chased Enyeama out of the camp using the police and made Musa the captain instead of Mikel. Hi AyoT and SmithLayi. For the first time in a long while. I am going to disagree vehemently with your position. Very lobsided and biased against Oliseh, obviously because you want to peddle the narrative of 1994 set belittling others. That's not true in this case. Firstly, we should condemn Mikels condescending comment about Oliseh. It's very disrespectful and unafrican to say Oliseh has no clue of what he is doing as a coach. We all know oliseh is one of the best we have tactically, his man management is what he gets wrong most times. so to say he doesn't know what he is doing is obviously out of hatred for him. There is nothing matured about what Oliseh said about Mikel; he talked about him making millions and not helping people how does that relate to football or affect him in anyway. He once compared Mikel to Ndidi in the DM position and said he'd preferred Ndidi to Mikel as a DM even when Mikel never played as a DM for Nigeria so what are you even writing. He said Mikel is not good as a 10 and not a good DM as well so Mikel is not good at all right. Did you listen to all his utterances about Mikel? I'm sure not. Even when Mikel never said anything about him he had been the one castigating Mikel right from 2013 AFCON when he wasn't even yet the coach of the Super Eagles. First and foremost you guys started off on a wrong footing which to me is highly suggestive of the fact that AyoT and Smith Layi already picked sides with Mikel Obi else how do you explain that you started up by saying Oliseh had some not sooo good words about NFF, Mikel Obi etc. AyoT even went as far as misquoting Oliseh's words "that he doesn't think that Mikel is good enough to play in the super eagles at that time..." That word is not correct and not the exact words of Oliseh. What he said was that Some players playing as at that time were not good enough, he never referred to Mikel personally but rather said that after a particular game wherein Mikel never did well and was still giving him issues, so he had to use a guy from our local league (Paul Onobi) when they return to Nigeria for another game and Paul did the job well. And then Smith Layi coming up with Mikel being our best player at the AFCON and haven won the UCL forgetting that Mikel was no longer an AMF that he used to be but rather a defender

Mikel a defender where? Where was the Paul Onobi after that game? Did he come back to the Super Eagles or a get a good club to sign him? If you want to back Oliseh you might want to come up with some concrete response but I don't think there is any that's why none of you have been able to support him intelligently.

Oliseh thinks coaching at that level in Europe qualifies him for the nigeria job, he is always implying sub saharan african coaching in division 2 in Europe is supposedly a big deal, I think that screams inferiority complex, can he state his claims without ever bringing that up? It's so embarrassing, anyway both sunday and mikel were great players in their own right but they both don't know how to talk, they both think they are smarter than they actually are

I haven't seen where Mikel spoke about Oliseh even after searching everywhere. Oliseh was resentful to Mikel and Enyeama from the beginning even before any match was played if you had followed the story. It had nothing to do with Mikel or Enyeama, Oliseh came with an agenda to get them out of the Super Eagles.

@@Helena_01541 I seen the video when mikel said that and I hated it but to be fair sunday also implied that 2003 afcon triumph was more about the players and less about keshi's tactics, he was a huge keshi critic, one time keshi responded by reminding sunday how he first gat into the team and sunday responded by saying he was already playing in europe😭, sunday clearly don't like mikel but mikel recently was implying he was better than okocha, I beg this na 2 werey business 😭😭

You guys are not balanced and objective in your analysis. Mikel had blasted Oliseh in his podcast some months back. Mikel even said that Oliseh is a clueless coach. How can a former player be insulting his coach in a podcast? If Oliseh is clueless, FIFA would not have appointed him to their technical study group, that includes the likes of Arsene Wenger. Your analysis is full of bias and sentiments.

Which episodes of Mikel's podcast did he insult or abuse Oliseh? Do you have any proof because there is no podcast episode of Mikel where Oliseh was mentioned. You people like to spread false information and fake news no research or verification done to authenticate information flying around just hear-say. And which year was Oliseh in FIFA technical committee? I'm sure you don't understand how FIFA works. People can come from anyway to feed you people with all sorts of information and you'll take it in. Let Oliseh come out to state categorically his exact role with FIFA and not some committee member that was dissolve years ago. A particular committee was setup by FIFA for some purpose some while ago and was dissolve after the duration of the program does not result to a position in FIFA smh.

You have to react to things contextually. For every event there is a pretext, context and post text. So you cant talk about an issue without talking Abt the background, what it stemmed out from. If Mikel hadn't stated some nasty things, oliseh wouldn't have said all these. It would have been proper if you guys had done same analysis when Mikel aired his views or alternatively do one on his own comments as a sequel to this. That would make it balanced. Even if you don't agree with what oliseh said. Do you agree with what Mikel said?.

Oliseh won best coach in Holland helping a very small team gain promotion to the elite division. It's no mean feat and a small Mikel cant open his mouth and insult him and you guys didn't address it. It's lobesided

In addition, Oliseh's problem was when he was the coach of the Super Eagles, he chased Enyeama out of the team that's the genesis of the problem. So go and look at Oliseh's coaching history for better context of his abysmal coaching records. If Mikel had even reacted to him it's because of his irascibility as a Super Eagles coach period.

There's no point arguing much about Oliseh's views and Mikel ability. Most football analysts in Nigeria are sentimentally myopic, hence ending up overrating some players beyond their capabilities. No doubt Mikel was phenomenal in the 2005 U20 FIFA youth Championship but his days as a senior player in the SE were less than impressive. I hear people like the analyst in this video say Mikel won the UEFACL; nah... He was simply a member of a team that won the UEFACL. He neither scored any of the winning or crucial goals nor did he make any spectacular defensive saves; he simply played the role assigned to him by his coach. And there was nothing spectacular about him in the 2013 AFCON where the likes of Sunday Mba (Rangers FC) and Onazi were the forces in the SE's midfield. Not forgetting that we had home based Godfrey Oboabona (Sunshine stars FC) and Azubike Egwuekwe (Warri Wolves) that were both fantastic at the defense alongside K.Omeruo. Mikel was just a member of that team and displayed nothing extraordinary. Inview of Oliseh's remarks, every player is a member of the team. If a coach thinks another player will fit into Mikel's role for a game plan, then he should work hard to regain his coach's confidence. The European based players often want to dictate for our indigenous coaches; that show of disrespect should be discouraged. The Mikel some think to be a superstar couldn't stand to compete with Kante at Chelsea and he admitted that. But we will think Mikel will be a star player to be featured against a French team that has Kante in the midfield. Just like the boys who played under Finidi against Benin Republic in the WC Qualifiers, it may be argued that a team selection comprising players from Rangers, Enyimba and Sporting Lagos would have trashed their Benin Rep counterparts in that game. Football is about the players that yield results. Nigerian soccer lovers should rather hope to see dedicated players with outstanding capabilities fly the national colours and not under-performing names in European jerseys.

To say Mikel didn’t help Chelsea win the UCL is simply false. In fact, that final is largely referred to as Mikel’s best game for Chelsea.
