Rules of 70 stars bans BLJ, and they decided to do it following the rules. ( Fun fact : there is a 1 star BLJless TAS, if someone could reproduce it RTA it would be accepted in the 70 stars category on speedrun.com )

So obviously there are huge differences but I've never like watched someone TAS a game. I guess my question is what does it take to TAS the game that's different than speed running it? Other than TASing is playing the game frame by frame.
@AJR-zg2py4 жыл бұрын
Speedrunning the game is entirely real-time reactions and live human input. TASing involves pausing, slowing-down, rewinding, and re-trying strats in an emulator. TASes are more for entertainment purposes but there is also merit in analyzing the theoretical "perfect" strat and seeing if a human can pull it off.

Why are blj's banned in 70?
@NovaTheDark4 жыл бұрын
Because thats how the category is defined. Thé rules of 70 never mention actually collecting 70 stars, the rules are only "beat the game as fast as possible, no BLJ" therefore forcing you to do it in 70 stars
@NovaTheDark4 жыл бұрын
@@galoomba5559 yeah, there is a 1 star BLJless TAS which uses HSWK, if someone can reproduce it RTA, it would completely respect the 70 stars rules and therefore become the new 70 stars World record

Pretty much a way of saying that a person did it in a real time unsegmented run. When something is not rta viable, it means that a person physically can’t do it in a run and only a tas can

What is a glitchy wall kick and how do they work?
@_Arout4 жыл бұрын
If Mario runs into a corner with 2 walls, he can run against one wall and the second one just blocks him. The glitch has to do with quartersteps. If you jump on one wall and in one of your 4 quartersteps mario enters one of these corners so he can run against a wall, he does a wallkick on the first wall which is not infront, but next to him so he wallkicks in the direction he's facing. Its really hard to explain but if you know how to do them its easy.

@byronanderson39693 жыл бұрын
Wait a second... no WAY cheese thought RNG was fixed when you enter the stage before this... right? Like, even after only practicing Super Mario 64 for one session it was obvious that was the case, although more comparable would be how long it took me to figure that out in Super Metroid since it works similarly so I was already used to that concept, but I still feel like that only took me loading the same room a few times to figure out. Isolating tricks down into their component parts is the fastest way to learn speedrunning tricks, so I guess I like to speedrun speedrunning as well, so if you only ever practice long segments at a time then I can see how this concept could be foreign, but there's no way anyone ever starts practicing so inefficiently, right? That's more of a "okay I've mastered all the individual tricks, now I just need to piece everything together" way of practicing for when you do events and such. I'm just so confused. To me Mario 64 has always seemed like the absolute highest level of speedrunning since for me personally there's just nothing that seems as precise and ridiculous. So I guess I just assumed any top-tier speedrunner would have at LEAST as much knowledge about how everything worked in Mario 64 as say a top Super Metroid runner would have. But I'd be hard-pressed to find anyone in the top 100 of SM on SNES that didn't know the fuck out of this already. Like I'm pretty literally zero people in the top 100 are unaware. Is there some like better ignorant-of-how-the-game-works way of speedrunning that I'm not aware of or something? Because I'm still pretty sure Mario 64 is still ridiculously impossible to get great times on yet I just can't reconcile how both of these aspects can be true simultaneously.
