That thing Jonathan did has to do with false vocal folds-I’ve heard other metal singers do it or some other crazy stuff with false folds (If you haven’t heard Jinjer’s Pisces live session you really should check it out). This is a stunning piece of work-everybody was brilliant.
@AMarshmallowPie2 жыл бұрын
On another reaction video done by I think Mortius, he was doing it with one of the guys, and he said it was like a subharmonic technique that uses the false vocal folds almost entirely. It's really interesting.
@robertofiend12642 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Young talks more about this with Bobby Bass during a Twitch stream. I’m very sure there is a full clip on the entire discussion, where they talk about tips on singing, using false vocal cords, the subharmonics series, how subharmonics were created, how to use subharmonics, and more. It’s actually pretty interesting and also, pretty educational if you want to become a singer.

This is a PSA for people who don't already know, but here is something to think about if the music itself wasn't already insane enough! This was ALL arranged, produced AND edited by an 18 YEAR OLD!! EIGHT-FRIGGIN'-TEEN!!! Not only that, but this is all VIRTUAL with singers from around the world! You got Marwan from Egypt, Bobby from Massachusetts, Peter from Philadelphia and Tomi from Czech Republic PLUS, of course, Jonathan Young! Making music with a group of people in person is hard! These guys, however, are making INSANE music like this ALL VIRTUAL!! So for those who are reading this, if you are not already, support these guys in any way you can because we all need to appreciate these guys for their talents, hard work, dedication, blood, sweat and tears that they all put into making this music and these videos!
@candilunsford28782 жыл бұрын
This was just brilliant! Jonathan was a perfect guest. Marwan went beast mode on this, and all four of them keep getting better! MUCH better than the original. These guys are really putting it out there now and I can't wait to see what's next. I lost my mind listening to this, and Geoff's next solo will blow your mind out too.

7:46 That was Jonathan using his false folds, like what you would do to metal sing basically with grit. But he is just going the opposite way haha
@upsidedownpyramid76172 жыл бұрын
7:40 that was the first time I have ever heard someone use False Chord Subharmonics (Throat Bass) over standard subharmonics with that much control. Thats what that was lol. That technique is either used in tandem with growl by beatboxers to hold basslines or its used to drop heavy guttural lows and mid screams by metal musicians, hearing it used for a subharmonic bass note is just so damn fun.

Jonathon is using throatbass with a rather forward placement(throatbass is created by vibrating both your vocal cords and your false vocals at the same time, and the false vocals naturally vibrate at a frequency an octave below the fundamental, creating the effect).

The reason that men who sing bass can sing that low is because of the length of their vocal cords. Really low bass singers like Ken Turner, have really long vocal cords, while the female sopranos have short vocal cords. Air passes over the cords to make a pitch and if they are long they create a lower pitch. Also I think that Jonathan Young's low notes were a filter. That's why it sounded so weird. He has a low baritone range but he's not like a low bass. At least with how much I've heard of him
