From an outside perspective, the 4th and 2 call to go for seems crazy. But it is smarter than you think. If you kick if there you’re willingly giving Herbert that ball back with 1:40 left, 1 timeout, and a chance to at least tie the game with a FG. If you go for it at and don’t get it you’re pretty much in the same position if you kick the FG there. The conversion burned the last timeout and the Lions took all the clock away and won without giving Herbert the ball again. So happy we’re rolling this year 🦁

The Lions went for it on 4th and 2 because they didn’t trust their defense to stop Justin Herbert, not because they didn’t trust their kicker. If they kicked the field goal and went up 3 they were gonna give Herbert almost 2 minutes to march back up the field just like he did all game long. They couldn’t force a punt for the entire 2nd half. Campbell was in an identical situation last year against Minnesota and he opted to kick the field goal. The kicker missed and Minnesota marched up the field and scored to win the game in the final seconds. Didn’t wanna see that happen again

Ben Johnson is the OC of this magic. DC is not have the brain to conduct these route trees. Johnson will assuredly depart to become a HC after this year probably in Division I. But the Lions have the offensive template in place and will use this for Goff, it rejuvenated his career from the waste bin.

Allen will be 32 in April, but he's actually got a lot of tread left on the tires maybe because he has missed so much time early in his career, that might let him be relevant in his early to mid 30's as a WR, which is pretty rare these days

Herbert is stuck in the hole like Stafford was. He was a much better QB than the Lions allowed him to be thanks to the horrendous O-line and staff. What happens the first year after he's traded should have been a great wakeup call to Stafford haters. But the trade we got for him was worth it too ;)
