As it is a feeling I am used to, I didn't anything of it and moved on. Having said that, I SO appreciate him addressing it this week!! I probably speak on behalf of us all in saying that we all love you both and are faithful watchers - the fact that our feelings are being cared for so dilligently and in such a kind way is something I really really appreciate. Especially as you are risking backlash from it also. Secondly, Timmy rolling his eyes as soon as Jay comes on screen is everythinggggg! Love is real guys haha!!

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I do think that there was a good chunk of time when Lauren and Audrina were actually genuine friends. They lived alone together for at least a year or so and you saw them have each other's back (for a period of time anyway lol) in regards to dealing with Heidi again in season three after the horrible rumor situation. I think there was at least a little genuine emotion there from Lauren, if anything just from thinking about the time that had passed between them and quite possibly where their friendship was headed now.

but wasn’t the show based off actual friendships and relationships? wouldn’t it have been a bit weird to cast poc for the sake of having poc if they weren’t attached to the group in some way? diversity is important but diversity for the sake of checking off boxes feels really forced and actually pretty insulting in my view.
@kiki_101_2 жыл бұрын
@@gee2541 LOL no a lot of the friendships were forced by producers, some of the cast members (like Spencer/Heidi, Brody, Audrina, Lo, Kristen, Lauren etc) have gone out and explained how they would be told they had to film scenes with someone and then immediately after go back to their normal life’s lol. Audrina was scouted for the show, Lo said they were just coworkers to her and she wasn’t actually friends with them (aside from Lauren), Brody said a lot of his scenes w/ Lauren were fake and after filming them they wouldn’t talk. even Audrina said she wasn’t really friends w/ a lot of them (including lauren) but HAD to film w them due to contracts, said she had her own real group of friends outside of the show, producers actually sort of held her hostage at one point until she agreed to film a confrontation scene w/ Kristen over Justin (that she didn’t want to do bc Audrina was actually in a relationship w/ someone else at the time). All that to say NO this wasn’t based off of genuine relationships.

Honestly I don't think Audrina was a very good friend to Lauren. Lauren was a bit insensitive at first towards the whole JB thing but quickly corrected herself and was incredibly supportive through all the BS. Audrina was always subtly shading Lauren behind her back with Speidi and JB while also acting like a victim being held hostage in that house. Not surprised Lauren didn't continue their friendship. And in the end she was 100% right about JB.

Finally, I think Lauren was right when she told Whitney that Audrina wanted to move out to move in with Justin. Sorry Timmy and Whit, but she was not spreading a rumour or a lie. As the episode goes by both Chiara and Casey ask Audrina, are you sure you want to do this for you and not for Justin? Does he even know or want to? Then she asks him to move in and he clearly doesn't want to or even thought about it. I get that it's better to live alone and she did let the drama settle before doing it instead of moving out of impulse or after a fight with Lauren and Lo. She took her time. But she did it thinking of JB too when they aren't there and had barely just made it to Boyfriend Girlfriend. Lauren is not so bad at reading people and it was clear to Chiara and Audrina's sister what her plan was. Get a house and hope Justin would want to move in right away, as if her sharing a place before would ever be the problem. Don't know why this criticism of Lauren sometimes. She's not perfect and was sometimes a bit overprotective of her friends which can rub off as controlling. She made her mistakes and her friends should have the right to make theirs too. Other than that I do think she was a good friend and she was the star of two mega hit shows, she didn't need to be fake or mean or dramatic or anything.

I hope Timmy and Whit get to read this comment. I think Whitney had the right idea with her explanation on the original video. She put it best, they were white kids, from a white town, who went to a white school with affluent white parents. I as a black teen was NOT tuning into The Hills let alone MTV for diversity. Would it have been nice to see myself reflected on the screen? sure! But, I also knew what the show was and to me it was escapism. I wanted to watch rich, white, young adults say and do dumb things for entertainment. I think Timmy kinda stepped in it with the attempt to placate with an explanation which felt more like tipping around the actual truth w/ a half truth. I think currently we're in a time where we're all cognisant of race, and racial issues even if we may not understand firsthand. So an explanation that would have sufficed then (remember it was 2008/2009 where social consciousness wasn't anywhere near what it is today so be easy on Timmy) doesn't hold up now , i.e. "we looked for telegenic ppl." Understandably folks will react and call it implicit bias. You could've just cut straight to the white meat (no pun intended) and been like "At time, these were the crowds they were exposed to, this was the image we were looking for, and I did what I could with what I knew at the time and I see how my role in what could've felt exclusionary." Done! I personally don't think its a big deal and it was just a bad explanation that was meant to not hurt any feelings or make their viewers feel left out. Totally understandable. These conversations are honestly refreshing.

@eliramos22323 жыл бұрын
@@DeadlyKitten90 when I was in high school, I also most closely related to Lauren but I was super into my grades so that part was missing. While on college, I related to Whitney (responsible, on top of it, big responsibilities) because those were qualities I aspired to have, I also related to Audrina with her inability to make a clean break from Justin (I felt like she and I had ESPN or something haha), and I also aspired to be more like Lauren (not afraid to address problems head on even if it means confrontation, and able to make clean breaks). What I also love about rewatching, is that it shows me how much I’ve also grown up (ha!) and allows me to laugh myself. I feel like during that time, girl on girl crime was accepted, expected, possibly encouraged? as the norm. And today, there’s such a movement for women supporting women and celebrating our differences as strengths and I’m so proud of how far we’ve come. I think this would be an awesome time to be in your teens and 20s and feel such Community with all these amazing different women. I watch this show today and remember thinking the only acceptable way to behave was to be super nice and cute. But these reaction videos give us permission to revisit with a laugh. Today, you can be nice, and cute, but you can also be be lady like, be punk rock, be strong willed, be compassionate, be a boss, be funny, be soft, be hard, maybe sometimes be a little bit scary, be anything and it’s awesome. I’m so proud of myself for being waaaaaay less judged now 🤣. Truthfully I can track my old convictions through the show, how they changed, and how I’ve grown and learned. Ha! Also, it’s just good entertainment and these two are freakin hilarious. What do you think? I’m curious to know how others feel!

I think we all know The hills was a white show so I’m not even upset about the lack of diversity on the show. It’s the denial of white privilege that annoys a lot of people still
@carolsimpson44223 жыл бұрын
But since systemic racism excluded people from this industry, that explains why it was predominantly white. Which is why Tim mentioned that these shows should have tried to question and challenge this system instead of just going along with it.

Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks come to mind as 2 black EXTREMELY successful world famous super models. So it confuses me to hear people say the system was racist and black people didn’t have opportunities in fashion?
@tinaho47793 жыл бұрын
@@alisonleigh100 it’s more about the inequality of the opportunities though. Just because there were a few that broke through a glass ceiling doesn’t mean the ceiling/systemic racism and impacts of that, doesn’t exist

Many POC watch these videos and are fans. The fact it a monumental event when a Black woman was on Friends for a story arc…in NYC! I love Timmy’s honestly and willingness to engage in the discussion instead of shying away due to fear. Whitney thank you for helping your man and discussing the bias and hopefully supporting change in the entertainment and fashion industry.

I will absolutely refer back and send this video to whomever does an half-assed apology in the future. Like look, "there's actually a way to do this respectfully. And no, the world is not out to *cancel* you. Just take accountability like lovely Whit and Timmy just did.

I weirdly feel that Tim is super judgemental with Lauren like Audrina literally told Chiara and her sister she was hoping Justin would move along, but if Lauren says it, it’s gossip and lies and they were fake friends… but Heidi getting fired not expected, her horrible partner well not worthy mentioning all the awful things and toxic behaviours he constantly shows because he’s “a victim” and just “acting” for the show. Like these reactions videos are nice, except when Tim throws what I feel is unfair shade towards Lauren. But just my opinion, hopefully it stops feeling this biased since it’s almost the end of Lauren’s participation on the show.
@lenatorres11713 жыл бұрын
Lauren is so overrated lol. She seems like a complete mean girl who expects everyone to cater to her. She was annoying af in Laguna Beach, and Kristen Cavallari is sooo much better to watch. I've been team Kristin since LB and love her part in this show once boring ass LC leaves.
